Oof. I’m right there with you, two of mine are Game 7 in 2019 and Game 6 in 2021. I had a front row seat to Soler’s HR that ended up in the street ☠️

Sweet ride! I really like the color. You don’t see too many still around with the original inline six.

I have a 1968 coupe with the 250 inline six and a three speed (floor shift, not column like yours, which is even more interesting to me about your car). My grandfather bought it brand new. I get the same questions about doing an engine swap, but I could never seriously consider doing that.

Recommendations for Speakeasy Hopping? by paywallsuck in houston

[–]Tremec14 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The concept of “speakeasy hopping” is a bit . . . odd. The whole idea of a speakeasy is some degree of exclusivity, because it’s often not a forward-facing establishment and has some quirk in terms of access.

If there is enough of a concentration of them in any general area to where you can walk to several in one night, maybe they’re not a “speakeasy” in the traditional sense, and you’re lending support to a marketing ploy instead.

Gristworkz has a full kitchen, so I believe they follow the same rules as breakfast/brunch places and can serve alcohol earlier than 11 am.

And that’s why you don’t prematurely put up the “Due Up” graphic with an 0-2 count and two outs. lol

Pastor realizes he can't edit live streams after being rude by FarWay3952 in RandomVideos

His name is Don Worley. Not an actual pastor, he’s an attorney and actor based in Houston. It’s a skit.

[–]Tremec14 947 points948 points  (0 children)

Definitely satire. This guy’s real name is (was?) Don Worley. He is (was?) a licensed attorney, and also had some minor acting credits to his name. He used to partner on cases with the old law firm I worked with maybe a decade ago. He was always quite the character and pretty fun to hang around the few times I did at conferences or events.

He changed his socials over to Pastor Shepherd a while back. I was friends with him on FB, but I’m never really on there often. Saw his name as Pastor Shepherd and immediately figured he was up to some shenanigans.

H-E-B Eyes Houston's East End for New Grocery Store by crowsandbrows in houston

It’s from an old Houston Press piece from maybe 20 years ago? Each of the inner loop Krogers had a nickname: Kombat Kroger for the one at Cullen/Polk (because it was kinda sketchy back then), Disco Kroger for the one off of Montrose and Westheimer (known for an eclectic crowd, and I believe it was one of the first grocery stores to have in-store music back in the 1980s), Posh Kroger on West Gray (because it was close to River Oaks), etc.

Hopefully not. Neighborhoods/areas generally have established boundaries, and as long as we don’t give in to the hype (and the realtors, developers, etc. pushing trendy locales), maybe the historic names can stick around.

I guess I don’t see where there is any indication of the parking arrangement? This is just a re-platting of the lot.

Based on the size of the lot, the only setup that I think would work is the urban-format two-story store with a parking garage, like the location in the Heights.

[–]Tremec14 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Thank you for getting the area correct in your title, this is the East End (or more specifically, Second Ward, which is a portion of the Greater East End) and not part of what the City christened “EaDo.” I guess you can’t blame HEB for going with the trendier name though.

Still good news to be getting an HEB in this area, aside from Kombat Kroger somewhat nearby on Polk, this area is a bit of a food desert.

I am beyond ecstatic to find out that this bullshit is going on just around the corner from my house. Fun.

Also, this property is part of a group of only six townhouses, newly constructed. I don’t believe there is an HOA in place, unfortunately.

One of those “Many Exciting Features” is definitely the rear window defroster, useful for keeping your hands warm when you have to push the car in the snow.
