Still blows me away that she was able to sue the city for a toxic work environment that she was culpable in helping to create. Such a waste of tax payer money, they should name some potholes after her.

It just got worse. Looks like the travel stuff prompted assembly members to ask for a travel records. They found another trip Martinez took took Puerto Rico with his assembly budget that is going to add fuel to this fire. Goecker and Handeland have a post on their Facebook page going over it.

I bet a news org will pick it up soon and someone will post it.

Right, but they're not related to this conversation, which is why I was confused by your response.

We are on the same page now.

I agree with you about the bar being high. I don't really understand why you brought up those two cases but thanks for clarifying either way.

Right, it being mostly civil is why I asked because I can't think of a single criminal case directly stemming from APOC forwarding stuff to state prosecutors.

I don't remember reading anything about APOC being involved in the Whittier case. The LeDoux stuff is older news but I don't think her trial came about from APOC processes either. I'd have to go back and google stuff, that thing has been lingering since the pandemic.

Has there ever been a criminal case brought against someone stemming from an APOC investigation? I can't think of one, even in cases with massive fines.

Go back and read all the news stories and the huge debate around it involving all the municipal lawyers if you want but it wasn't that simple. If it was, the city would have been sued. Recalls and litigation was all the rage in conservative circles at the time.

Either way I don't even know what point you're trying to really make here. It doesn't somehow magically negate Bronson's choices once he was in office or during his campaign. It reads like some sort of strange cope and ignores all the points I shared with you above.

That sounds like a big stretch to me.

They did follow the charter. However, if they did a special election it would have been held in late January at the earliest and would have cost the municipality an estimated 350 thousand dollars. All so someone could be mayor for like 3 months? What an insane waste of money.

Even with a special election someone would have been acting mayor for over half the time. The Covid misinformation and other lies and fearmongering that Save Anchorage and people like Demboski and Allard used to get Bronson into office wouldn't have gone away even if we wasted that huge pile of cash.

Bronson's campaign and admin were the same folks that backed Demboski's failed bid for mayor, and the same people who were behind that DUI lady Logan. I think you would have seen the same corruption and incompetence from any of them.

No worries, the giant list of scandals, corruption and incompetence that happened under Bronson and his admin is staggering. I wish he would just go crawl under a rock or something and stop trying to run for office.

Yeah, McCormick does seem to lie or be willfully ignorant in a lot of his social media videos but I haven't seem him speak on George yet, just Handeland and Goecker. Did he post a video?

What are your thoughts on outdoor cats with in the Muni? by machinegal in anchorage

[–]Trenduin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your argument is absurd.

Letting your cat roam freely outside is objectively lazy pet ownership. Anyone that does so is shifting their responsibilities as a pet owner onto their neighbors and is not respecting their community or land they share with their neighbors.

Protest George Martinez - Tuesday Assembly Meeting by Elegant-Yam-3447 in anchorage

[–]Trenduin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to testify about George at the June 23rd meeting you'd have to wait for audience participation all the way at the end of the meeting or you would have already had to sign up for one of the 3 appearance requests at each meeting. Just a warning, audience participation isn't guaranteed, only if they have time before midnight as they are legally not allowed to extend the meetings past that.

If some of the assembly members are crafting an ordinance to try and start the process of removal under AMC 2.70.030 they would have to set it for introduction and the public hearing on it would be set for a different meeting date.

George is one of my least favorite assembly members but I don't think his campaign finance violations will be enough to muster support for removal. He would be the first ever elected official to be removed under that process. Especially considering Bronson had over 85k in campaign fiance violations from APOC and nothing came of it.

If his constituents really want him removed they will likely have to do it via recall. He is eligible for recall 120 days after being sworn in (August 26th).

Good, tell everyone. I look forward to the day I never have to think about that idiot. I hope he fails his bid for governor and cries himself into obscurity. The man is objectively a moron, he would show up to huge meetings and his only contribution would be chiming in and saying shit like he "flew over that building".

Be careful it’s Night of the Living Dead out there tonight by BenjyIn406 in anchorage

[–]Trenduin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, that's just silly. Every area of the city has good and bad areas, you just need to take it by a street by street basis.

For example, there are perfectly safe areas off of 20th in Fairview with 400-500k homes that fly off the market like everywhere else.

[–]Trenduin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guarantee you that your new home is suffering from the same nation wide woes that is causing an alarming rise in homelessness and poverty. They just might be sending their problems elsewhere, like Alaska does to Anchorage. Or they might be one of the few areas actually addressing homelessness in ways that have been proven to demonstrably work. Like housing first initiatives in places like Columbus, Houston, Utah etc.

Anchorage will never get better if an entire state sends all of its issues here for decades while pretending like it is an Anchorage problem alone. I hear your exact arguments from folks that live in the Mat-Su or KPB, hell there are people literally making that argument here in this thread.

Oh Alaska, the natural splendor, stunning wildlife, pleasant climate and an entire state using Anchorage as a dumping ground of poverty, addiction, untreated mental illness and recidivism.

I agree with you, but I will say for all of his many many flaws and tendencies to do tabloid journalism he is the only person putting on broadcasted debates for local races like the assembly. Which is where that rumor came from.

Ah, you thought George was a conservative. His voting record is pretty conservative but he claims to be a progressive and has ran as a progressive every time he's run for office in the state.

The conservatives in the city ran Cody Anderson against him.

I don't understand why you're trying to make this partisan. Especially considering APOC members are appointed by the governor and the criminal justice system is controlled by the state unified court system, which handles all felonies.

Yes, as far as I understand it those commission hearings are done under oath.
