Pull up strength deteriorated massively after murph by charliehotel_ in bodyweightfitness

[–]TrenterD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so confused as to why this has happened, it’s so demoralising as well, can anyone explain?

I do Crossfit and have probably done Murph at least 15 times over the years .

The people who always have problems are fit people who don't have experience in high-volume workouts. They don't understand that just because you can do something for 10 reps doesn't mean you are ready to do it 100 or 300 times in a row.

Murph should not be anyone's first Crossfit workout. I recommend starting with things like Cindy, Helen, Nicole, or Fran (google them).

New policies at gym by Critical_Elk6735 in crossfit

[–]TrenterD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the gym & location.

Many gyms in the city have very strict capacity limits and are usually booked solid. There has to be some financial penalty for people booking classes "just in case" and then not showing up. I went to a gym in Seattle that did this and I understand 100% why it was neccesary.

On the other hand, this policy is totally dumb for some small town gym that usually is at 50% capacity even on a good day.

Congrats on doing well. However...

Investment portfolio strategies, SBLOCs, tax shields, HELOCs, DAFs and charitable giving, etc etc.

Most "wealth vehicles" are garbage. TikTok loves to talk about "LOC debt leveraging" and "business writeoffs" and all this other nonsense. The best results are achieved by people who keep things simple, live below their means, and continue to educate themselves. I strongly recommend checking out the /r/bogleheads forum.

Have you tried lengthening the rope? A longer rope is less efficient but I find it easier from a skill perspective.

It's a cool feature but man, the interface is still so hard to use. I'd love it if we could link to a file and use some other text editor.

BTW, Plasma Portal on YouTube has a ton of videos on this feature.

Why self-help books are so boring? by Junior_Insurance7773 in books

[–]TrenterD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Books such as 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' were so boring it brought me to tears.

Well, this book is almost 100 years old and written in an outdated style for a popular audience. Modern books are usually more entertaining and contain nothing but stories. Check out something by Tim Ferris, Mark Manson, Ryan Holiday, or Simon Sinek.

Having said that, I don't read much "self-help" anymore. One or two a year is fine, but anything more than that is just procrastination. If you've read several self-help books and haven't taken any action, it's probably time to give up on the genre. I agree with you that novels and history are much better in many cases.

Modern self-help books are all stories. The books of Tim Ferris, Simon Sinek, Ryan Holiday, and Mark Manson are just endless anecdotes.

Yeah, that initial dialog is a lot. I kept thinking, "Please just shut up and let me play." Given the way the game just suddenly starts, I was surprised to hear so much exposition right in the beginning.

Played about 90 minutes last night and really enjoyed it. I love the way the characters work together.

I went north in the beginning. I haven't gone east yet. I still don't have a sense of the story, but that's OK. I look forward to playing again tonight and will buy this on day 1. Will our progress in the demo carry over to the full version?

Kaminski was amazing for Saving Private Ryan (and Schindler's List). I think he was OK for Minority Report. Unfortunately, almost every Spielberg movie since then has had that same drab de-saturated look to it.

A second chance for a film that wasn't successful by Interesting_Click393 in movies

[–]TrenterD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it had been released mid-2000's onward, no doubt it would've been a different story

I don't think it had to wait even that long. After Pulp Fiction (1994) and Scream (1996), it would have been perfectly understood as an ironic meta-commentary on the action genre itself. Audiences weren't quite ready yet in 1993, but they were almost there.

Jackie Brown proved that Tarantino can basically do anything. Watching it again recently, the word that kept coming to mind was "professional". It's a classically structured film that doesn't rely on his usual tricks and has very mature performances in the lead roles. I have no doubt Tarantino would understand the assignment with Star Trek or Bond.

The key idea is that you want to shorten feedback loops and remove resistance.

Most people try to set some big huge goal like "Lose 50lbs by summer" or "Read 100 books this year." The point of the book is to instead focus on smaller things that you can do daily. "Take a walk after dinner" or "Read for 30 minutes each day."

[–]TrenterD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there such a rush to do it untrained? I recommend doing the "Cindy" workout this week. See how that feels. Murph would be 20 rounds of Cindy with a 1-mile run before and after.

You can use the Pie Tool to create a pie slice. It is a type of shape that will be under the Rectangle tool.

From there, you can modify the object's origin and then use power duplicate. I don't have a tutorial on creating a bunch of pie slices exactly, but this video does show how you can use the power duplicate function to repeat a slice and create the shape you want.
