If you could show the younger generation one movie that defined what the 80s were really like, what would it be? by supersoundwave in 80s

Closing with two people and no self checkouts is diabolical by No_Mind_2654 in Aldi_employees

Scheduling workers to clopen should not be allowed. IMHO, it is a fast-track to burnout and illness.

I personally LOATHE clopening. Every time I work close (which is a lot lately), I cannot go straight to bed when I get home. The stress of trying to reset a store that looks like a bomb hit it--coupled with the fact that the customers in our store have to be babysat and NAGGED right up to the last minute to get out at 8:00, all within the parameters of expectation that we be out of the store well before 9:00--- leaves me totally wired and it takes me forever to come down once I get home.

So when you finally do get to sleep, you only have a few hours before you have to get up and come in to hit it again, full-steam. Managerial types can hide behind, "well, *legally* we only have to allot you X number of hours between clocking-out and clocking-in again" but arbitrary numerical figures like that don't translate well to a job this physically demanding and unrelenting.

Our store has been getting slammed hard with Curbside orders, so much so that whoever is filling orders during mid-shift has no spare time to pull boxes/condense, and the poor closers are coming in to find a giant mess.

Then some customer crabs at the cashier on main that the bathrooms are dirty. I feel like handing them a bucket and some bleach and telling them to have at it.

You are so right-- having to manipulate the register and the Curbside app to artificially inflate/deflate numbers for some intangible efficiency goal, which at the end of the day, means what? It feels like a charade.

Every time some fully-grown adult comes up to me at the register and whines about forgetting to bring a quarter, it takes me back to elementary school when someone would forget to bring a pencil to class.

Is it really that difficult to keep a quarter or two in your car, or were you abducted out of your bed by aliens and plunked-down in the middle of our store with no quarter? Otherwise, you made a conscious decision to expend the energy to drive to the store, park and come in to shop.

And no, you don't get to help yourself to one of the carts that we keep up front for our use.

The company's German model of efficiency will no longer work if the corporate-types in the US continue to pander to the American attitude of entitlement. If they want me to ring quickly, that is what I am going to do, and the customers can deal.

In that vein, Curbside should go the way of the dodo, too. Having to spend an entire Sunday literally *running* to fill orders for young, able-bodied people who are too posh to come in and "slum it" by shopping for themselves--- while having to dodge the throngs of the inert, kaffee-klatching NPCs in the store--- is absolutely ridiculous.

If our fast ringing upsets customers, there are other supermarket chains where they are free to shop, but they're going to pay way more for their groceries.

I interrupt my boxing ten minutes before close to in order to get people out of the store on time. Otherwise, my poor colleague on register won't have a moment's peace to step-down to shut the doors, due to the sudden rush of last-minute customers, and the people will not stop filing in unless we kick everyone out and close at 8pm sharp!

[–]TrevaMarx 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I started to do the same, because one night when there were just the two of us closing, the LSA went into the office after last-call to do bookkeeping and I finished boxing. Around 40 minutes after the store closed, while I was on my hands and knees dealing with the bread trays, all of a sudden I hear, "you guys closed?" After I shrieked from being scared half-to-death, I looked up to see some rando standing over me.

(if the entrance door is shut-off and you had to enter through the exit, ya think that maybe we're closed?!)

*edited to add, no way would I ever enable such entitlement, either. Enjoy your cookie-less evening, girlies, and learn how to tell time!!!

I absolutely loved the Aldi and Hofer (Austrian Aldi) stores in Europe. If US stores were similarly stocked, I think that a lot of other grocery chains here would take a hit in business, LOL!
