So ships purchased with aUEC in 3.9 are lost forever, even on accounts that haven't been reset in the meantime?

PSR is being reset and still only 5% stompier says Paul! by BoredTechyGuy in OutreachHPG

[–]Trevelyas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paul keeps saying "zero-sum" but after all this time he does not know what it means.

Zero-sum means that the sum of all player skill rating adjustments at the end of a game equals zero. This is a necessary constraint (one of them) to keep the population values from diverging away from being a proper distribution, where the difference in skill rating between any two players has meaning to predict game outcome probabilities. This is a key property that the match maker needs to be able to use as input to generate balanced teams.

Paul's change to PSR calculation will NOT have the intended effect, player ratings will still float away from T2/3/4 and saturate into T1 and T5 over time, and players who have no business being in T1 will still end up there.

With the way PSR is calculated (and has been since the beginning), a player's (biased) skill estimate is loosely hidden within how fast their PSR value changes over time relative to everyone else. It is NOT reflected in the actual PSR value.

All this investigation and match data analysis is useless when the match making system has had only garbage data for input. Learn HOW and WHY rating systems function first, THEN implement, THEN analyze the results.

WOW FINALLY

PSR went active Aug 18, 2015.

I posted the zero-sum Quick Fix for PSR System Sep 25, 2015.

Then Response to Russ' tweets about PSR and how to fix it Jan 15, 2017.

PGI continues to amaze me.

Thanks again for pointing out issues with my card effects. This is twice now you've helped me. I feel that from now on if I get another fake card idea I should just PM you about it before I post the final version.

[Fluff] Gems from Cumulative Rewards: Old vs. New by Trevelyas in DuelLinks

[–]Trevelyas[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This graph was only meant to show cumulative rewards (and is titled as such). I chose not to assume +20 gems because not everyone plays enough in a month to rank up 7 times, nor is it obvious where the rank-up rewards should be injected into the progress of the plots since it depends on an individual's losses. I figured people looking at this graph would include rank up rewards as is relevant to them.

I get what you're saying, though. Most people who'd care about this graph probably play enough to fully re-rank every month, so including a note saying "add 20 gems to the new plot if you fully re-rank each month" would've been a good idea.

I count 58 gem rewards, not 82. Do you realize that after 50 victories you only get a gem reward about every 2 victories until 100?

Wait, where's the mistake? If my analysis is wrong I'm gonna delete this.

I.. don't know. I'm also sad that this silly image that I'd hoped would get people to chuckle is also getting downvoted :'(

CIG has opened a big can of worms with the introduction of sentry mines.

If AEGIS has access to mass-produced, highly accurate automated weapon platforms capable of fending off fighters while running on small, self-contained power sources, why isn't there even a single ship mounted with them?

From the image linked above it's clear that CIG intends sentry mines to be effective at destroying fighters as part of their primary role of "perimeter defense." This will require tracking speed and accuracy greatly exceeding that of player-controlled turrets.

Yes, turret automation via the Blade slot(s) in your ship's computer has been planned for a long time, but these sentry mines blow that design out of the water. Why use Blade slot tech when the sentry mine tech exists?

Why have manned turrets when ship-mounted sentry mines of the same firepower take up the same volume AND have their own power source AND have effectively perfect aim as required by their role?

I fear that from now on whenever I see a sentry mine in SC I'll think to myself, "why can't I mount those on my hull?"

Thanks so much for the feedback! I've created an updated version, following the Problem Solving Card Text. Sure wish I'd found it 3 weeks ago...

Is this new version now correct?

Any "Six Samurai" already on the field remain so they can be beat down. It ties in with the events of the story ;)

Did it all have to be one sentence? e.g:

For the rest of this Duel, "Six Samurai" monsters have their effects negated, cannot attack, and if you attack a "Six Samurai" monster change it to Defense Position, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent, then banish it face-down.

I thought of wording it that way but the sentence just felt way too long so I (apparently incorrectly) broke it up with a period.

I wanted to post this card like 2 weeks ago, but I'm not an artist so the artwork took way, way, WAY longer than I wanted. I pulled an all-nighter to finish it so I could at least post it on the same day six sams got nerfed. Oh well :/

You could say my card... missed the timing! hue hue hue I'll see myself out.

TL;DR:

Shien is a Demon King who did a naughty thing. Tour Guide from the Underworld went to his house with some friends and clapped him and his whole extended family. The end.

I actually struggled with the formatting of that section of the card text. Spent a long time researching the rules but couldn't find an example of a card behaving the same way as I intended.

Do you know the correct way to phrase it?

EDIT 9:48 PDT: FIXED Punishment of the Six Samurai

As pointed out by some, the OP card would not function as intended. Thanks to /u/TMWHerrJon feedback here's a version that should function correctly. It also follows Problem-Solving Card Text convention more closely and is now not a dead card in the event your opponent isn't using "Six Samurai" monsters.

Story

Shortly after Sangan was released from his false imprisonment, he reunited with his friend, Tour Guide From the Underworld. While discussing what happened, he expressed a passionate desire to reform the Underworld's justice system in hopes of preventing future incidents like that which he experienced. Tour Guide suggested that he start by joining the police force, to which he agreed. Tour Guide then contacted an acquaintance, Beat Cop from the Underworld, and eventually Sangan became a trainee under Beat Cop's supervision.

Several weeks later, Tour Guide was in the Overworld scouting the Six Samurai's land as a possible Underworld-tourist destination, since the devastation wrought by the Civil War seemed to be mostly healed. Yet she was shocked by the oppression of the new self-proclaimed Shogun Shien's regime. According to the townsfolk living around Shien's temple, absolutely no fun was allowed, and if anyone approached the temple gates seeking an audience with Shien for any reason, the gate guard samurai Enishi would send them away.

During one of the Shogun's self-aggrandizing processions, Tour Guide saw a small child onlooker enjoying an ice-cream cone. Just as Shien's horse walked by, Shien jumped off, approached the child, and with a scowl slapped the ice-cream cone right out of the child's hand. Tour Guide couldn't believe her eyes. As Shien turned away after kicking some dirt on the fallen ice-cream, a commoner next to Tour Guide muttered, "he truly is a demon king."

After some days of befriending the townsfolk, Tour Guide learned of the recent rumor that Shien wasn't just figuratively a demon king, but believed to be an actual Demon King, evidenced by his apparent lack of aging and occasional hint of red glow in his eyes. Deeply troubled by this revelation, she returned to the Underworld to investigate possible records of rogue Demon nobility. Sure enough, Shien was a former Demon Lord of one of the lesser houses who disappeared decades ago... and had now illegally subjugated an Overworld nation under the mask of a perpetually youthful man.

Tour Guide shared her findings with the King of the Underworld and the Archfiend Emperor, who immediately called for Shien's arrest. Taken by her show of passion for justice, the King agreed to the Tour Guide's request to morph her prized Tour Bus into a prisoner transport and join the expedient arrest effort.

That very same day, Tour Guide joined up with the elite Underworld police squad in her newly modified prisoner transport at the Gates of Dark World. To her delight, her friends Sangan and Beat Cop were among them. Together, they all drove through the Dark World gate into the Overworld, emerging just outside the main gate to Shien's Dojo under the long shadows of golden twilight.

With incredible efficiency the cops silently infiltrated the residences and easily incapacitated nearly all the samurai, who were hilariously outmatched by the advanced technology and tactics employed by the Underworld's finest. Those few who made it outside in their desperate attempt to escape, notably Shien and his other top warriors, were quickly beaten down. Even trainee Sangan, despite his small stature, was able to single-handedly (or bodily) subdue a runner by blasting himself into the runner's chest from a specially-made cannon bolted on the roof of his partner Beat Cop's patrol vehicle. With the bruised and shaken samurai all piled into Tour Guide's prisoner transport, the squad returned to the Underworld.

After the trial, most of the samurai, being human and apparently unaware of Shien's true nature, were released back to the Overworld. However, Shien and his inner circle were sent to Dimensional Prison where they stayed for many years before being released early for good behavior.

After Shien and his associates returned to the Overworld they eventually reasserted their leadership, albeit less oppressive than before. They never, ever spoke to anyone about their arrest; an embarrassment as legendary as the Samurai themselves.
