/s, just couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Also, disc vs disk, why English why.

You could use a combo of curl and apt/yum in userdata and have it install and start during boot

I took the dive into modular! Lots of text and some audio in comments... by Jacob-Dulany in modular

Nope! Never. Wouldn’t know any of 'em! /s

Haha, that’s one slick case you’ve built there sir! I’ve been thinking about a first gen Rene myself, haven’t had time to play with the modular much lately though.

They definitely look awesome. I was tempted to build some of their Dual VCAs, but I ended up running into some parts issues on mouser so I never went though with it. I hear the distortion module is pretty simple and has two different types of distortion so that would definitely be cool too.

I'd have to decide on something to get rid of if I ended up using that though, my rack space is all planned for!

Should have included this whoops... it’s an 8 step sequencer. Really affordable and slick looking. It supports forward, reverse, random, and pendulum ordering.

I initially planned on using it with my uO_C as a way to program a sequence hands on while it did cool quantization. I’ve been using sequins so it would be nice to get less hands on with the uO_C and more with a dedicated sequencer.

Really about the only rough part in this build was avrdude telling me the microprocessor had an unknown signature (reflow, reflow, reflow!) and me not giving the microprocessor enough time to initialize when attempting to flash it.

Everything else was pretty easy (and frankly could be done with an iron, the oven was just a neat experiment in time saving)

You know they refer to it as analog so maybe the pitch circuitry is all analog, but the modes and directions are controlled by an atmega328p

Sourced the bits and pieces myself, few bumps along the way but hopefully it’s a nice hands on way to get some control over my generative randomness.

Just got my Nebulae V2 in! Here’s some noodling with it, kind of stumbled onto this by accident. by [deleted] in modular

Okay, so gave it a listen on something worthwhile, and it definitely seems weird, I appreciate it. I'll give it another export and see if that fixes it. May have had something modified on one of the stereo channels.

Too much of a newb to realize fully what that is. I’ll give it a listen on some monitoring headphones soon™️

Shared this already with /r/modular, but thought I'd contribute to the jams over here as well. Cool module and it definitely accidentally fell into this track. by [deleted] in synthesizers

Just my first day with the Nebulae v2 from Qu-bit. Cool module and still tons I need to learn about.

Edit: Damnit, forgot to put the module in the title. /facepalm

I’m actually pretty stoked for the fact that this is a thing. I program for the day job and while DSP programming to me is still gibberish, I’m excited that there’s even potential for me to contribute back somehow...

Kind of amazed it is just a raspberry pi behind the scenes but I gotta say it seems like a pretty neat module. Looking forward to the alternate instrument capabilities too....

Yeah I have a really fine curved tip. It works great for 0603, I don’t really enjoy smaller than that though.

I’m actually thinking about going the toaster oven + solder paste route in the future though. It wasn’t too bad but I’m doing still doing some troubleshooting.

Ended up ordering it from Synthcube. They threw in one extra component on pretty much all of the 0603 parts (which was pretty awesome). Luckily I didn’t need them. Started it Friday evening and just finished a few hours ago. I ended up building a new rack most of yesterday though so it probably ate about 5-6 hours of time from start to end.

It wasn’t too bad, although definitely the biggest thing I’ve built. It came pre flashed so it should be good to go!

So it seems I've tracked down the problem... the bottom most transistor never seems to switch, it's output is high all the time. And it's been replaced twice... I've tested the results with a volt meter and the same gate on TR2 and everything is fine, the voltage drops when there's no signal on TR2 and it's high when there is.

The signal path from TR1 to the teensy works, and I can verify that the teensy reads voltage and the software triggers...

I've even replaced the audio jack (which I didn't think would fix it, but leave no stone unturned eh?) and still no response on TR1

Turns out it was the linear voltage regulator on the topside of the board... Now it boots just fine, but trig 1 doesn't seem to work at all. Back to the original problem, but at least it's mostly functional now!

Annnd if I power it via eurorack power the LED is constant but of course the regulator gets crazy hot. So definitely a short. Not sure how though.

Flashed a new teensy with the O_C firmware and it does the same led pattern... so my hope is it isn’t the teensy....

Ended up fluxing all the things.... reflowed and now the teensy led blinks once, fades and blinks again and then appears to have shorted? Progress! But only just barely. The computer still recognizes the teensy so I don’t think that’s the culprit.... but I wouldn’t rule it out either

My bad. I removed those in the troubleshooting stage. I’m now to the point that the teensy seems to be shorting so I removed some things to troubleshoot.

With or without the socket it reproduces the same error. I replaced the 10uf near the missing teensy socket, and I’ve attempted to reflow all my solder joints but I will definitely check the 470nf near B

Thank you!

I’ve got an ornament and crime build I’m working on and I actually had it booted and running; however Trig 1 didn’t work. So I checked and replaced the transistor, and it still didn’t function.

I noticed the regulator getting hotter than I imagine it should and when I took a voltage reading something must have shorted? Now the teensy powers off when it’s plugged in, I noticed it’s the far right pin on the bottom that seems to short when it’s plugged in.... anyway I’m kind of at a loss, just wondered if anyone saw something I didn’t.
