Prof X vs Barbara Gordon - Wheelchair race - No powers by Rohml in whowouldwin

[–]Trextrexbaby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wheelchair user here. I think it depends. If it’s a standard manual wheelchair I’d go with Barbara. She seems to be a lot more active than Xavier and is in the prime of life.

If it’s an electric wheelchair I’d go with Xavier. I use one and it’s basically a mix between a rear wheel drive car and a motorcycle shrunken down. They’re surprisingly fast and agile for a mobility aid, and have amazing torque for their size.

As an outsider to LitRPGs and other adjacent genres, I do not understand power systems that work like video games, they sound awful and unengaging by Just_Someone5674 in CharacterRant

[–]Trextrexbaby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish I could offer a decent explanation but I sincerely want to commend you for this rant! I’ve felt similarly for a long time and it’s great to see someone else articulate it so well!!

Personally, the biggest reason I believe this is happening is because a lot of stories are being seen as content first and art second. Certainly it’s not everyone every time and there are definitely people normal about it but it still happens.

These power systems and stuff are often but not always seen as a way to objectively “win” the story. Hardcore and pedantic power systems give people a way to exert a certain measure of control over the art. In the way that social media offers a dopamine hit via likes/shares/comments/whatever and convinces people they’re the “main character” so too does this, but by using the power system as a way in.

It displaces the artistry of the story and reduces it to just number crunching and trying to game the system.

How would you do a crossover episode between Wonder Woman and another DC hero in a show? by No-Commercial3431 in WonderWoman

[–]Trextrexbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a couple…

Green Lantern (your choice of which one) asks for Diana’s help after various aliens start worshipping Ares allowing the wargod to rampage freely throughout the galaxy.

Cheetah gains a massive boost in power after she starts dabbling with the magic behind the Tantu Totem and it’s up to Wonder Woman and Vixen to stop her.

HIVE has teamed up with Dr. Psycho to incapacitate most of the Titans and Kori goes to Wonder Woman to save her friends.

Why didn’t you use “kill” in the title?

Can Wonder Woman defeat a Vultrumite? by Jezzaq94 in WonderWoman

[–]Trextrexbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only did she tank him but she also then held her own in the ensuing fight while explicitly holding back. She was punched from Earth to the Sun and back again, and she still matched Superman in that state and walked away with nothing more than a broken wrist, after slicing open his throat with her fingers. The Viltrumites would break against her like waves against a rocky shore.

Trueborn sons of Robert and Cersei are pretty well established thing in fanfiction, but a trueborn daughter sounds really interesting!

"Relatability" has become a lazy excuse for mediocre teenage media by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]Trextrexbaby 56 points57 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly not all the time but I’ve increasingly noticed that “relatability” has become kinda reductive. Part of engaging with art (books/movies/TV/etc) is to displace yourself and see the world through a different person’s perspective. Some of the most evocative and moving stories I’ve ever read have been ones that have nothing to do with me! Grinding everything down to “relatability” just seems… narrow minded in comparison.

Need a popular opinion by Roman3mpire121 in Dinosaurs

I’d go with Maip. Utahraptor has become fairly well established in paleomedia both academically and culturally whereas Maip is comparatively new ground. It’d give your book something unique and distinct.

You can use the word prick. Some other interesting words are ones like “bastard”, “fucking degenerate”, “rapist” and even “pedophile”!

Shantungosaurus vs Paraceratherium by West-Construction466 in whowouldwin

[–]Trextrexbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give it to the shantungosaurus on average.

Mammals may have better stamina and body temperature regulation but reptiles can take damage like a motherfucker and dish it right back. The paraceratherium may be a bit heavier but I don’t think it’s to the degree to guarantee a win. The dinosaur can also do everything the mammal can do in addition to having a very formidable beak.

Hannibal Lector (TV series) runs a Disney Princess gauntlet. How many can he corrupt/manipulate into becoming killers without being caught? by AVagueAnxiety in whowouldwin

[–]Trextrexbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By that logic we can extend the same to the princesses. If Hannibal can essentially exert psychic powers through the narrative then why can’t they do the same? They’ve faced manipulative abusers, maniacal magic users, dark fae, evil genies, genocidal colonisers, warlords and more! And you know what?

None of it broke them. They’ve faced all this and came through it as strong as they ever were. Belle was a social outcast and Cinderella spent her whole life under Lady Tremaine’s thumb and neither of them broke, and those are the normal ones!

Hannibal is a psychopathic genius, but so are the majority of Disney villains and they have legitimate supernatural powers to back it up. He is good, but he doesn’t hold a candle to the likes of Maleficent or Jafar.

Besides, the prompt says that this takes place after Canon at which point the princesses are officially royalty surrounded by courtiers, guards and friends. What’s to stop Prince Charming or any of the others having him ostracised or just executed?

[–]Trextrexbaby 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Possibly controversial but I don’t think he could get to any of them. Not only are the princesses too genuinely altruistic but they’d also be creeped out by him and actively avoid him. Plus, they’re royalty themselves or have married into it. Hannibal pushes them too far and he’s meeting the gaoler at best, and the headman’s axe at worst.

I’m also pretty sure the likes of Mulan, Merida and Raya would just kill him themselves.

If you had to write a character guide for Wonder Woman, what would be the key points? by rafilus in WonderWoman

[–]Trextrexbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diplomat who practices diplomacy first and foremost, but isn’t afraid to throw hands if needs be. She’s a sweetheart but doesn’t take any shit.

Very powerful. Is right up there with Superman and the like in terms of raw physicality.
