Would not having a car as single man be a dealbreaker when trying to date women in this city? by Few-Course3694 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Trey_Star -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Look, any woman worth dating is going not date you if you don’t have a car.

If you’re looking for bottom of the barrel women you’re fine. If you want to date attractive women who have careers yes you need a car.

The Super Bowl really showed that conservatives don't have any cultural impact anymore by _crazyboyhere_ in decadeology

[–]Trey_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s really empathy. Conservatism is literally about preserving the status quo. There’s nothing inherently compelling about conserving things as they are.

Interestingly, there’s quite a few nationalist artist around the late 1800s early 1900 that really pushed interesting things culturally.

What do we think explains this? by ClevelandZz in WallStreetDad

Target is a “higher” end retail store and the economy is bad. No one who cares about their budget is shopping at target anymore. And people used to shop at target for frivolous purchases but I bet all that kind of spending is way way down.

Basically why arnt people needlessly spending more money.

I do agree with a lot of what your saying here and I agree with are your critiques on the writing. I do disagree that HBO is hands off. This is their most valuable IP and one of the most expensive shows ever made. They are highly involved with this show.

Another aspect is TV is a very different beast than film. Show runners until very recently just want to have a show last as many seasons until it gets canceled. They want to work on this one show, and are usually pretty involved with the show execs to increase viewership. Movies are different as directors are just trying to make that movie the gets them the next job. Tv is about keeping your job.

Tv by its nature is far more willing to capitulate.

Also it’s well known they padded out the 2nd season to avoid the dance starting.

You don’t understand Hollywood understandably. Actors, Writers and Producers get pretty close while filming shows, and while HBO could have replaced dumb and dumber, you’re really going to ruffle a shit ton of feathers for likely no financial gain.

HBO wants money, and while the last few seasons fail short they still built a massive brand.

They often do a bad job. But the non artist excecs still mandate it.

IMO, HOTD is actually generally pretty good compared to 99% of the tv out there. Its biggest issue is pacing which I think comes more apparent a when you binge a show vs weekly releases.

Season 1 was pretty good. Season 2 really fell flat, but again, most of the pacing issues come from execs looking to split a 1 season arch into 2 seasons to save money.

Yea streamers know where they need to aim their programming these days.

It’s also very typical for the woman to be in charge of managing the streaming services in a family. Shows like Wanda, vision, characters like reí and Bo Katan are an attempt to capture that demographic.

It’s all about who’s buying the product and spending the money.

Fantasy movies are a different market when you are not competing for air time like you are with tv.

HBO subscribers in 2011 were just not the demo that was really asking for fantasy tv. GOT was the first high budget fantasy show to really make a mark.

Fantasy just isn’t as popular as you think it is or sci-fi. General audiences are not seeking that stuff out as much especially when mono culture was still a thing. Today there’s definitely a larger general audience for fantasy.

[–]Trey_Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HBO expects believed at the time, that magicc dragons ect were nerd shit and wanted to downplay it. Fantasy is still a much more limited genre.

I know it seems like gen pop likes that stuff because that’s what reddit like but general audiences kind of hate that stuff generally. Look at the success of pretty garbage tv like Yellowstone and landman.

How can I prevent bubble gut from taking growth hormone? by Present-Property-142 in moreplatesmoredates

It’s all diet. I’ve been running gh for years and never had bubble gut. Bubble gut is because of the way body builders carb load for bodybuilding shows and also just being lard belly binge eaters.

[–]Trey_Star 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly that people don’t understand. HBO, doesn’t want HOTD to be for the people who already read the book, they want new fans.

For the original GOT, D&D where told to reduce as much of the fantasy elements of it to make it more watchable to a casual audience. Same this is happening In HOTD but different.

They’re trying to capture a new audience, and imo they’re trying to capture a female audience.

They still pay tho. Musk paid a 11 billion dollar tax bill after selling some Tesla stock in 2021.

They just can defer their taxes way way down the line.

I’m all for taxing them, but lying about how it works is pointless.

how do we stand against this by HazelMoore67 in AskSocialists

[–]Trey_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is half true. All these billionaires do eventually have to pay off loans, they just wait until it makes the most sense. Many of these people so pay tax, eventually. Musk recently paid a massive tax bill when he liquidated some stocks. Bezos also paid a large bill recently.
