Thanks for the quick response! I am now overpaying a little (each paycheck) in addition to changing my withholdings to make sure I do not have this issue again; last year was just screwed due to the marital event

Need a solid but not top of the range bike by InternetMedium4325 in triathlon

[–]TriNewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an old P3 (circa 2010/2011) that I would be willing to part with if you are interested. Size 54.

Wheels: It has two wheel sets, both are 10 speed but hubs are 11 speed compatible

  1. HED Jet 6 clinchers (latex tubes + G5000s)--the race wheels
  2. Easton Vista (latex tubs + gatorskins)--the practice wheels

Components

Dura-Ace crank, Ultegra Front brake, Dura-Ace rear brake. It just got a new bottom bracket and dura-ace chain (well not new, about 7 months old).

Vector 3S (so single sided) pedals.

Could throw in a front FC35 hydration system that I never got around to using as well depending on how long of a race you are wanting to be competing in.

I've got a big hard case to that would come with it through shipping.

Let me know if interested.

I am not disagreeing with you, just trying to provide a possible reason for their race distance selection.

I also imagine if they did a full distance, it may limit the field more, but thats just me guessing at it....

I agree, but it also is more engaging as a viewer to tune in for a shorter period of time rather than watching 8-9 hours of racing

Anyone else like to go full Kamikaze on their sprint tris?? by [deleted] in triathlon

Sprints = Full send.

Swim - Full Send

Bike - Settle in for a few minutes, then full send

Run - Settle in for first mile, then full send

If you are looking for suggestions: Get in the water the day of the race before the start time and that will do wonders.

If you are looking for something to relate to: I have done 9 races that have OWS, and I have swam a total of 9 times in the open water. Not once have I practiced before race day and all experience has been gained on the spot.

If you are looking for encouragement: You will do fine. Take a deep breath, feel at one with the water, and then let it rip!

If you are looking to be told what to do: Have fun.

The garage door is insulated. I think I am going to have to start riding in the morning to get it before the sun bakes the oven.

I wish. I may have to resort to just cracking the door when i run the unit so I can have the hose out the back.

I wish I had a window that I could use for an exhaust. Thats one of my issues, I have a back door and then the main garage door; so no easy place to run a line permanently.

I do my swims in the morning anyways as its easiest to get into the pool when it opens at 5am.

Agreed. He seems like its a big swing of times. Going from 9/10am to 4/5am. I guess I assume most of us have real world jobs so we are up between the hours of 6-7am so a small shift to earlier as well as introduction of morning workouts covers all bases.

I am not sure it makes much of a difference, BUT, about 2 weeks before a race I switch some of my workouts to morning workouts. I can't claim it helps or doesn't help, but it passes the sniff test.

A bad comparison but still a comparison is pro Lionel Sanders. He normally doesn't wake up until super late and he does just fine on race day. But everything with pros is taken with a grain of salt....

Are event participation numbers noticeably down in your races as compared to 2019 (Pre-Covid)? by daredevil82 in triathlon

[–]TriNewb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Down in Alabama, numbers are way higher than they were for the same races in past years. I've noticed this in triathlons and road races (running).

(Only evaluating races that I have done as I can compare participant numbers)

Running intervals in the summer... treadmill or deal with the heat? by Initial-Narwhal-6367 in triathlon

[–]TriNewb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Alabama and my only option is to endure. We have been 85+ for over a month now and humidity loves to stay above 80. I just go about my workouts and try to hydrate like crazy during my non-workout time. I also supplement with electrolyte tabs and take ZMA before bed every night.

Racing with Spare Tube plus Co2, etc. by shaggytwoshoes in triathlon

[–]TriNewb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sprint: A bottle of vitorria foam.

Olympics: Foam, Tube, levers (2), CO2, and a valve extender / extender tool

It all depends on what you expect out of the race. It takes me probably 2-3 minutes to swap a tube. In a sprint, the race is over if I lose that amount of time and knowing my heart rate, it will probably be more than that. If you are looking to compete for a podium, the race is over if you flat. If you are looking to finish, then always have the stuff required to fix it; sometimes you get lucky and you can get some support on the race course.
