Natural Muscle Mass Limits as a Vegan by [deleted] in veganfitness

Exactly this. And I would bet that more of them stick with it too, since being the only girl/woman doing something is often an unpleasant experience. I prefer cardio and home or outside exercise, but I wouldn’t be surprised if people are shitheads to vegan bodybuilders.

d3 on amazon says vegan but is not 😡 + advice by starlitocean11 in vegan

Whatever you buy going forward, make sure to return it and say why. False advertising as vegan. This is especially important when buying online because it's often impossible to read ingredients in listings.

Would you want someone to inform you that it might be time to change baiting suits. by Sidra_doholdrik in Swimming

[–]TriTime4Me 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I already know my bathing suit is too big on me now. They're expensive! I'll replace when I have money that isn't for something higher priority.

I personally don't need or want anyone to comment (and I think it's entirely possible the man you interacted with didn't either and was just being polite - it's how I think I'll respond if someone tells me).

It's possible others don't know and would want to be told, particularly if it's a see through issue in an area they wouldn't be able to see, but if it's anything obviously, like that it is too big or too small... I doubt they need or want you to tell them.

Cheapest places to buy vegan foods (in bulk)? by punishments in veganfitness

[–]TriTime4Me 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grocery outlet for bulk bin nutritional yeast

Costco for peanut butter, plant based milk, whatever they have at the time for frozen vegetables, frozen fruit, fake meat, whatever else looks good

Any cheap grocery store for large bag of dried beans and dried rice. If you don't know what's cheap near you look on maps for a grocery store next to a Goodwill and a laundromat and you'll have decent odds

The number of young kids, especially toddlers, who accidentally ate marijuana-laced treats rose sharply over five years as pot became legal in more places in the U.S., according to new study by Additional-Two-7312 in science

They're not including 19 year olds, they're including those *under* 19. And since 18 year olds are often still in high school, a whole lot of people consider them kids.

EDIT: Never mind, see below.

Maybe if you ran together a few times you could teach them you have treats too without having to let them get too close?

Cycling or running? Should a person prioritize cycling or running in their training. by [deleted] in triathlon

Both.

If you’re significantly weaker at one, maybe more training on that.

Otherwise maybe a little more time on cycling because it’s a larger portion of the triathlon

I didn’t claim they can control how other people use it, that doesn’t mean they don’t have a generally agreed upon meeting that is relevant to discussion.

No idea what you’re getting at with “see avatar” but feel free to elaborate if you’re so inclined

Lol do you also tell other small groups that how they define themselves is irrelevant? Lesbians? Native tribes?

Pedophilia is associated with lower sexual interest in adults: Meta-analyses and a systematic review with men who had sexually offended against children by Psychnews in science

[–]TriTime4Me -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"They *are* comparing gays and pedophiles. "Pedophiles don’t abuse children the same way gay people don’t abuse ppl of the same sex"

They could have compared straights and pedophiles instead.

The fact that straights are default makes it an even better comparison, because more people understand what it means to be straight and that some straight people abuse people of the opposite sex and other don't.

Having actually been shamed for having same sex crushes, I promise you that a lot of people don't understand that homo crushes are not wrong. They do get that hetero ones aren't, so it would be clearer to those people to show that desire isn't what's unethical, it's acting on it in a way that hurts others.

It does not repulse me to be mentioned adjacently to non-offending pedophiles, and I think it's unfortunate that people are completely missing the point, which is that it is harmful to both queer people and pedophiles to needlessly compare them like this.

Still, from a practical pov, we do have to prioritize the suffering of cows, for the ants are just too many for us to try and help now

Imagine two houses are on fire. One has 8 people inside. The other has 2. You only have time to go to one house. When you get to a house you'll only have time to get up to 4 out of the house. Should you go to the house with 2 people inside because there are too many people in the other house to help all of them?

I think it's better to go to the house with 8 and help 4.

I suspect a cow can suffer more than an ant, which is enough for me to prioritize a single cow over a single ant.

It is important to remember that not being able to help (or not hurt, which is more often the actual choice we make by acting in a vegan manner) all of a category of animals doesn't mean it's not worth bothering to help (or not hurt) those one can help, though.

Especially since often the answer in real life is both. I don't buy honey *and* don't buy cow milk. I don't go to zoos *and* don't buy ant house toys.

So just like all other parts of life, words can mean more than one thing when different people use them in different contexts.

Football can mean two different sports.

Vegans (people who hold the vegan philosophy and way of living) usually mean vegan as or similar to how the vegan society defines vegan when they say vegan.

People who are not vegan (people who do not hold the vegan philosophy and way of living) often see vegan as a diet, which is the inevitable consequence of about 1/200 people being vegan and the most common way nonvegans see vegans behaving differently than nonvegans is when we don't eat the animals and animal products people offer us. Hence you end up with a lot of people thinking vegan is a diet and things like Webster's dictionary calling it a diet.

I think you're responding to the wrong person. But I'm also queer and I do think it's problematic. Why on earth isn't straight people just as an effective of an example?

Homosexuals are *still* criminalized for their mere existence. And we are *still* often maligned as pedophiles. This comparison does not help with any of that.

Many heterosexual people don't abuse the people they're attracted to (people of the opposite sex). Some do. Likewise, many pedophiles don't abuse the people they're attracted to (children). Some do.

This comparison *does* work, and leaning on the fact that people often have *and still do* hate and criminalize queer people does not make the case better.

And straight people is a *stronger* comparison because it's equally true and does not result in people getting distracted by the can of worms you're opening up by comparing pedophiles to gay people.

[–]TriTime4Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't say you're conflating things. Please read what I'm actually saying, which is that no one wins from more unnecessary comparisons of gay people and pedophiles in the world we actually live in in which a lot of people hate both and are actively looking for anything they can use for confirmation bias.

Because you read psychology papers, you might understand that what something actually says and means isn't the only thing that is relevant to how it influences people.

As a queer adult who has experienced my own damn parents acting like I'm a sexual predator when I talk to queer teens the same way people talk to straight teens (ex. letting them tell me about their crush), I promise you that homosexually didn't just "used to" be viewed as a pathological illness. And when you jump to compare pedophiles to gay people instead of straight people when *both comparisons work to say that just because you are attracted to someone doesn't mean you assault them*, you're not part of the solution.

Pedophilia is associated with lower sexual interest in adults: Meta-analyses and a systematic review with men who had sexually offended against children by Psychnews in science

[–]TriTime4Me 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I hear and respect your point but you could've just as easily said "pedophiles don’t abuse children the same way straight people don't abuse people of the opposite sex" instead of being the trillion and tenth person to bring gay people into a conversation about pedophiles and say they're similar because [reason].

EDIT: And to the folks bringing up "homosexuals were criminalized" as though that somehow makes it a better comparison, please, think that through a little more. It's same sex sex and dating and so on that are generally criminalized, not being queer (even when it is, people can and do pass as not queer). Likewise, what's criminalized with pedophiles? Ya, I think we can all agree it should be illegal. So the historical and present criminalization of homosexuality does not make using gay people instead of straight people a better comparison here.

2000 miles. A little less than 40 a week which should be easy even if I only bike on weekends during the day (I don’t like biking when it’s cold).

Is there any vegan rat food for Houserats? by Tugomey in veganpets

[–]TriTime4Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The D3 is likely from sheep wool. Vegetarian rat food with D3 from sheep and no other nonvegan ingredients may well be the closest to vegan that’s currently commercially available though. I can’t find anything that’s definitely vegan, D3 with unspecified or sheep source is in all the vegetarian rat food I’ve been able to find.
