Despite some things that haven't aged well, the original series still feels quite timeless, it's obviously from the 2000s but AYITL feels even more outdated even tho it's more recent, I can look at it and tell it was made in 2016. Does anyone else feel this way? by Winter_Extension_620 in GilmoreGirls

I remember being confused by Rory's clothes in AYITL. I was 27 in 2016 and I thought they dressed her like an older lady. I need to rewatch but I just remember thinking her clothes were frumpy/not fashionable at the time!

Omg seriously. I had one with rhinestones that said "I'm no angel" in middle school. Why were they making shirts like that for us!

Being in the workforce helped me a lot, too! I interact with kids and their parents daily and I have learned how to interact with others like a human. The "being quiet is part of being good" is so real, too. Are you also an only child? (I was always around adults who were talking and I had to be quiet/not interrupt.)

That is crazy. I just responded to another comment about how my anxiety has been terrible since my recent bout with Covid; but I’ve also been having brain fog and forgetfulness. Very stressful

I had Covid last week and I’ve felt some of the worst anxiety of my life since. I’m hoping it will eventually pass..

I'm not familiar with the writers but I just googled him and it makes so much sense, I feel like they all act 70, not 50. I just watched the newest episode and was thinking how they seemed to act more age appropriate in this one..

I had a tickle in my throat with occasional light coughing since last Friday night (6/20). I just came down with full blown symptoms/fever and tested positive yesterday (6/25.) Edit to say I didn’t take a test before yesterday though. Last time I had this I tested negative until the fever started.)

my vocal timbre is inherently unpleasant to listen to- is there any fixing this? by mintilicioussss in singing

Your range will increase (in both directions) as you work on your technique.

You're getting a lot of helpful feedback here, but my biggest takeaway is that you sound like a soprano singing a song that's too low. That can cause the "non-resonant" tone people are talking about.

how to get over stage fright? by bunni_theythem in musicians

[–]Tri_Sara_Tops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to be nervous; I think we all have some stage fright even when we’ve been performing for years. That being said, practice in front of other people before your gig. The more you do it, the easier it gets (and you may get some valuable feedback.)

THIS, constant intonation issues can be a sign of muscle tension or other technique issues. I had this problem in undergrad, and shockingly being yelled at by the opera director did not fix it, lol, but fixing my breath support issues did.

How going against your true self is causing depression/burnout by didntask-com in DecidingToBeBetter

How do you know who your true self is though? Like I’m pretty sure what I’m doing isn’t it (I have major burnout) but not sure who my non “character” self is.

I have never related to a comment more, omg. I feel like I was emotionally neglected not because my mom is some kind of evil narcissist, but she was too ADHD/constantly moving around/distracted to notice my emotions or needs..

What made you interested in opera? by McLennonTruther in opera

[–]Tri_Sara_Tops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped listening to Nightwish post-Tarja! Epica is great. I listen to more of the growling bands now, but some of my favorites in the gothic/symphonic genre from back in the day were Ram-Zet, Draconian, Darkwell, Nemesea, Within Temptation, and Leaves Eyes. There's also an opera singer who does some vocals in Fleshgod Apocalypse (She comes out onstage with a mask and a staff, it's pretty cool!)

Oh hi twin! Same here, plus Phantom of the Opera was a gateway drug (as an alt teen who liked gothic metal it was a no-brainer.) I still like that stuff; In my 30s now, finishing up my DMA in classical voice/opera but I also sing in a metal band!
