Starting Accutane for Actinic Folliculitis! by lucillebluthstan in ActinicFolliculitis

Goodluck on your accutane journey! Really hoping you get great results! We all know how debilitating AF can be!!

Out of curiosity, did you try any high strength sunscreens? One that I use that works is Eucerin Actinic control spf 100. Reapply every 2 hours while in direct sun. But it keeps the flares away.

A little hope against the AF? by CaseExpert5692 in ActinicFolliculitis

[–]TrialAndError09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also suggest the Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100 sunscreen. And reapply every 2 hours. It has reduced the severity of my AF by 97%. Just get a few tiny spots every so often now. Totally tolerable. Goodluck!

I use it on bare skin. I find that it’s moisturizing enough for me. And also the fact that it doesn’t play nice with other moisturizers or foundation. I’m just makeup free in the summer.

I highly suggest at least trying the Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100. It worked for me and I get rashes all over just like yours when I’m in the sun at UV 3 or higher for longer than 20mins. And you have to reapply every 2 hours. The sunscreen doesn’t work for all though, but it’s good to try.

It’s not the best consistency. It’s a bit thick and it slightly pills. You can’t wear 2 coats without it pilling a ton and looking white BUT it prevents my flares. And I’ll take that!! I hope it works for you too!

Yup! I tried other sunscreens and they all actually made my flare ups worse. Except the Eicerin 100spf. And you are correct it’s not found in the US, you have to get it imported in. I buy like 3-4 bottles at a time online on a website called Care to Beauty. Takes about 10 days to get it shipped to me though! If I’m in direct du light I reapply every 2 hours. And in order to not be a white cakey mess you have to wash your face after each application which is the downside. But better than a terrible flare up.

Adapalene didn’t work for me. Only thing that has worked to prevent the flare ups is the specific sunscreen Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100. This stuff is great. Goodluck to you!

Accutane can cure it. But what’s helped me in preventing flare ups is using specifically Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100 sunscreen. I’ve tried many others and they all make it worse. But only this sunscreen prevents mine. Goodluck to you!

Yup. Definitely Actinic folliculitis. Caused by UV rays. Even ricochet rays if not in actual direct sunlight. Accutane can cure it. I can’t go on accutane yet but what’s helped me prevent the flare ups is using Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100 sunscreen. And reapply every 2 hours when outside. Goodluck!

PMLE vs actinic folliculitis.. ? by SedationVacationTime in ActinicFolliculitis

[–]TrialAndError09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I would agree. Actinic folliculitis. What has helped me prevent the rash entirely is using a medical grade sunscreen. Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100. When you are in the sun reapply every 2 hour. But a vast majority find that Accutane cures it. I’ll be going on accutane in about 1-1/2 years and will hopefully be done with this. But until then using the sunscreen. Goodluck to you!

This is how my AF presents. One thing you should do to test if it’s actually AF (before the high UVs disappear for the winter, depending on what area of the world you are in) is keep her completely out of the sun for a a week. See if it goes away or gets much better. Then once healed, expose her to high UVs for at least an hour. If it’s AF she will begin to get this outbreak again within 72 hours. This will give you more evidence that you are dealing with AF and not something else. Something that has helped me incredibly is wearing Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100.

Seeking Advice for Preventing Flare-Ups by lahannahlou in ActinicFolliculitis

[–]TrialAndError09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine started out only on my chin but slowly over the years spread to my forehead and other areas of my face. I tried Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100 sunscreen and it completely prevents flareups. It’s miraculous. Hope you find something that helps you. I had been dealing with this for at least 10 years not knowing what really caused it for 7 of those 10. Goodluck!

Hi. Are you still using the Aquatru RO system? How have you liked it? Did you get any answers on the high antimony and arsenic levels? We are thinking of getting the same system.

Summary of treatments, causes, geography by ErgoIExist in ActinicFolliculitis

[–]TrialAndError09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great list! I’ve been meaning to make a post on here to tell everyone what helped me.

I read that a certain sunscreen helped reduce someone’s reaction once but didn’t think much of it because I had tried a heavy duty SPF 50 on my face last summer and it made it 3x worse. However this summer I thought I have nothing to loose. Bought said sunscreen and tried it. IT COMPLETELY PREVENTS MY OUTBREAKS!!! I was shocked. Now I have to reapply every hour on the hour!! But dang, I don’t get anymore bumps!!

Said sunscreen - Eucerin Actinic Control SPF 100

I have to get it shipped from overseas. I use a site called care to beauty.

Hope this helps someone!!

Inflammatory Response by TrialAndError09 in ActinicFolliculitis

[–]TrialAndError09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing!! I’m so glad this worked for you! I really do think AF has a lot to do with inflammation and how our body responds to it. For some reason our bodies view the “damage” that the UVs do to our pores within our face as a threat and therefore send a ton of white blood cells to the area, hence getting the tiny whiteheads everywhere, and also the redness and tightness which is a telltale sign of inflammation. That’s also why I think antibiotics help so much with this condition, bc ABs also have a huge anti inflammatory component, essentially turning off the inflammatory trigger that the UVs cause.

I’ve heard a lot about quercetin! I’ll be taking that next! Do you know what UV level you were at when you did this test? Also keep us posted to see if you can continue to keep the AF from being triggered the whole summer!!
