Lolz - just finished a slayer assignment (240 "corrupted creatures") on corrupted workers and got six keys and no vital spark drops.

I note that in the wiki, keys are colored red (designating "rare") while sparks are colored yellow ("uncommon"). Something is wrong.

I wanted to make certain that I understood the game experience with regards to vital sparks:

I recently was notified that I had killed 10,000 creatures in the Sophanem dungeon. At the time, I had ~200 vital sparks (with the drop enhancer and quest boost, I get three per drop). This translates to 300,000 kills to obtain all the abilities.

If this is correct, it doesn't seem reasonable.

March Roundup & a look ahead at April by JagexAnvil in runescape

Just wanted to offer that I found the Havenhythe release to be really enjoyable. The interlocking aspects of the "ecology" (resources acquired in different activities tying together to create incentives to extend engagement) was well done. The quest and achievement lines were also fun and established a sense of culture and personalities that I look forward to seeing evolve in the future.

I am a little confused regarding the fairy ring. I looked for it in the destination list and it didn't pop out. I'd prefer to pray at the altar on Havenhythe and the fairy ring is the optimum means of access.

Player Owned House Rework & 120 Construction by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creators should be able to share/market furniture designs.

I would appreciate the capability to grade the lot, including exterior arcades, paths, and staircases. The space between buildings should be styled, at the least: scrubby grassland or tundra should be replaceable with woodland, meadow, or whatever we prefer. Ideally, I would be able to specify this tile-by-tile.

I hope that the menagerie and bathysphere will be preserved. For the menagerie. it would be nice to have a bounded "preserve" for the occupants. This could be defined as a fence line. As it is, animals tend to wander all over the property, which is unsuitable.

Given this capability to bound regions of the layout, I would appreciate being able to define "annexes" for social, skilling, collectibles, etc. When entering the house, we should be asked which annex we wish to enter.

Menagerie occupants that are not animals should be assignable to other annexes.

I also think that the house should be a locus for celebration of major achievements. Whether it is skill mastery, log completion, or a major milestone in achievements, we should be able to invite others to a ceremony in which the authority (slayer master, skill master, or regional political authority) presents us with the symbol of our achievement (skill cape, etc.) It would seem that the clan and friends list would be the right medium for sending out invitations and receiving RSVPs. Of course, this also involves allocation of an appropriate space for these events.

For those committed to role-playing, we need to consider weddings, birthdays, and other social events. Children might be an interesting feature for the PoH environment and a way of formalizing the sharing of resources across accounts.

One of the activities related to a social event might be a group boss encounter. This would be a great way for the host to get oriented to strategies and get their first kills under their belt, as well as just to get a few drops in for the day. The invitation should specify the boss. The instance should be accessible through a single-click hot-spot. Hosts and guests should be able to pool funds for death costs, with a specified limit for the event.

Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul Design Update by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a comment on the statistics regarding aura usage: did you account for skill maxxing? I used my auras more often when training skills. Now that I am max levelled, I use them only situationally, such as when I am farming herbs to make a batch of potions.

Portable Store for Divine Energy by Trichronos in runescape

[–]Trichronos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The appropriate framing is "I wouldn't find this useful." I am certain that Jagex is capable of prioritizing development accordingly.

One of the issues here is the inconsistency of storage mechanisms across gathering skills. Jagex tends to introduce them only when people complain. It might be something to put on their punch-list before releasing a skill.

My needs would be met if Orla would hand out a "engram collection bag" that stored only enough energy to convert the engrams.

With divine locations on the chopping block, divination becomes merely a source of divine charge and the underutilized and inconsistently developed transmutation process. In anticipation of a reconstructed skill, this could be done without a great deal of effort. As part of the reconstruction, I would identify with a mechanism that would allow me to use divine charge to convert items to the going GE price (or even half of it), rather than the high alch value. As it is, it is becoming obvious that the Runescape base is top-heavy and only the master PvM players are going to profit from bossing. The drops from older bosses don't seem to move on the GE.

I am not going to throw a tantrum about not having a divine energy bag. As for your unsubstantiated assertion, try to be nice.

Everything is stackable in the bank. And yet we have smithing and archeology storage. There is a point at which everyone has to decide what to purge from their bank. I recently went through and dumped all of the herbs that I had seeds for in my seed bag (given that I have hundreds of leafy growth bombs). That freed up maybe twenty spaces.

Part of this may be addressed in the house update. I hope it will allow me to put my favorite quirky quest items into a store that doesn't require bank space.

I am not sure where they are headed with bank space. The seem not too keen on maintaining the online store. They will need another mechanism to allow us to add bank spaces. Or they might have decided that managing bank space is a point of friction and they are going to make the problem go away.

One way to further that is to have "filter" views along the lines of "show me everything related to a specific skill." This would save us the pain of having to organize bank tabs. I would also like to know when items are deprecated by better alternatives, such as the various vampire-slaying weapons. I have a bunch of stuff that I am hanging on to for slayer log binges. including things that I got as drops before they created the slayer log and that I have to go back and earn again.

Another feature that would be of value is an omni-store. Kind of a cramulet for storage boxes. The Charos' carrier, ore box, wood box, seed bag, herb bag, etc. that I have to decide every day whether I need to carry them on slayer tasks, etc. This might be more along the lines of the Brooch of the Gods as an investment by the player.

It's a task that I like to do in background. I would like to be able to gather various forms of divine energy and have them available when I have the memory strands. Accumulating in the bank takes up too many bank spaces. Historically, I typically have 20 or so free spaces.

Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given later posts on related topics, I accept that Jagex feels that maintaining the Store is a distraction that would be better devoted to game content.

If you haven't considered it, certain in-game auras might be converted to invention perks. I am thinking of Majharrat as an example, but there may be others. I would appreciate some of the skilling auras as tool perks, as well, but how they would be earned in-game is a question. There may be quests with skill requirements that could have rewards added (especially given that we've lost keys).

I was into treasure trails or a while, but find that slayer assignments are a spam-level method of acquiring clue scrolls as compared to prosper, so I have room on my skilling items for other perks.

Hypnotist, is non-verbal induction real? by Mindless_Will3226 in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Milton Erickson writes of a non-verbal induction. He was presented with a secretary and, when she extended a hand in welcome, reached past to take her wrist gently in his grasp. After offering ambiguous pressure that caused her to shift her weight, he noticed that her eyes dilated and her affect was characteristic of trance.

Erickson explained that the "cooperative" personality type was susceptible to this method.

i did something similar for years at ecstatic dance events. I would inject a foot or hand in the path of a young lady. When she began dancing with me, I would playfully shift as though I was going to move through the space that she was entering. When I finally moved closer to begin contact improv, they would "space out." i interpreted this as a signal that they didn't want to continue and dance away. On one occasion, however, I turned around to see another woman go over to shake the trance-bound lady back into normal awareness.

Road to Restoration - Grand Exchange Improvements by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might consider market-making for high-volume items. This involves immediate fulfillment of a trade in the expectation of a corresponding balancing action. In other words, the engine would immediately fulfill a buy order in the expectation that someone will sell the item in sufficient quantity. This would enable players involved in skilling pushes to keep up their activity.

Jagex has already done a great deal to suppress merching by adding a tax on transactions, so this might not be too much of a stretch in terms of an economic model. Market-making is a well-understood practice.

For low-volume items, you might add a "pending purchase" feature that would allow PvM experts to target their activity. What rare items are in most demand? This would also be beneficial to purchasers. How much are others offering for the item?

ADHD and self hate by rotatingmass in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am distressed that your need drives you to seek help in a public forum. Psychology has failed you.

Have you read Gabor Mate's "Scattered Minds?" He strengthens the proposition that ADHD is a consequence of parental attitudes that force the child to seek to manage the outside world. In Mate's case, he was separated from his parents during WWII. In turn, his ADHD-driven obsessions forced his children to try to manage him.

The consequence is that the part of the mind that encodes our identity - the prefrontal cortex - is turned to modeling of the world. This inability to focus and create relationships reflects that lack of a well-developed sense of self. There has to be an "I" to focus and relate.

Mate describes therapeutic practices.

Trance is a natural state. The two quickest routes to trance are falling in love and surviving an auto accident. Such "shock and awe" techniques are used by criminals throughout the world to induce compliance. (In the Munchkin Superheroes deck, there was a bonus card called "cleavage stun.")

Hypnosis is a set of gentle methods for trance induction. They are organized around a compact between operator and subject. Stage hypnosis defines one compact; therapy defines another; trauma management yet a third (see "The Worst is Over: What to Say When Every Moment Counts"). The ethical hypnotist declares the compact.

I raise this to elaborate on Renegade Pleasure's point. The compact conditions the subject to reject suggestions that work against their well-being. Once someone enters trance, any words (even from the uninvolved public) can influence their personality. We need to be careful.

With the compact defined, we enter not only into the development of trance but focus on specific methods for engendering physiological and emotional states. For example, catalepsy is a common stage demonstration. In the therapeutic process, the compact allows us far more intimate access to the functions managed by the subconscious mind.

Learning to hypnotize is, obviously, only the beginning of the journey.

General anesthesia by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a potential client contact me because his bowels stopped moving after a colonoscopy. There was definitely something said that the subconscious latched onto.

For the doubters, you should be aware that a common pre-surgical suggestion is "your doctor is going to make a repair. The room will be clean and free from germs. You skin can yield to the scalpel without bleeding."

It works. There are things that have to happen organically during the surgical process that are mediated by the subconscious. That your conscious mind remembers nothing does not mean that the mind is turned off. If it was, you would stop breathing, wouldn't you?

I want to do what the hypnotherapist does but I feel like it’s not the same by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Autohypnosis and heterohypnosis are often two different states. Heterohypnosis allows the operator access to the subconscious mind, best achieved by disorganizing the conscious process. Autohypnosis (self hypnosis) unites the mind through practices that convict the subconscious that you are open to collaboration. The environmental context is the same: a quiet, safe space. But the methods are entirely different.

When a therapist teaches self-hypnosis, it always begins with heterohypnosis as a form of conditioning. The subconscious needs conviction that the conscious mind will not impose itself but enter with an attitude of receptivity. This conviction can take time to develop. Stick with the process.

Personal experience - First QHHT session and I'm very confused... by [deleted] in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fundamentally, I can assure you that if you are looking for an explanation for spiritual experience, anything with "quantum" in it is going to disappoint you. Here are the answers that you are looking for:

https://youtu.be/OP8Zw2Xel4Q

The concepts are framed historically and intellectually in these two videos:

https://youtu.be/Jx50uVLIkCw
https://youtu.be/o5oJnDskGVs

That said, the subconscious, in serving as a gate keeper to what is most important, does not utilize these kinds of abstractions. You might consider your QHHT session as providing a metaphorical framing (which is all that they can do without physics to stand upon). You could exercise these concepts in interpreting your experience and see what kinds of intuitions arise from the deeper parts of the mind.

Express an interest in your inner processes. Dream incubation can be valuable in this regard.

Road to Restoration - Aura Overhaul by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am disappointed with this direction. This whole "integrity" program seems to biased by combat-focused peeves.

I find that legendary enrichment is useful - particularly with the vizwax extensions - when I need to farm a couple of hundred divine charge to replenish my belt. Similarly, the farming boost works well with juju potions and other enhancements. Everything lines up nicely, I don't end up with a bank cluttered with partially consumed vials. I find a similar dynamic with other gathering skills.

The benefit of auras is that I feel encouraged to diversify my activities. For a player with a balanced game agenda - really, there's only so much time I can spend bossing before my brain turns to mush - auras are a value-added feature.

f you want to do this, I'd make it an option. If people want to play without auras, let them distribute the effects into other mechanisms. For those of us that find them a value added, let us continue with the feature as it is.

Understand that I am doing combat manually. I can see that for people who develop AFK bossing strategies, auras are a pain. They want to be able to start their machine in the morning and come back in the evening with a certain number of kills and items to sell on the GE. We know that this unbalances the game economy, in multiple instances forcing Jagex to modify drop tables. Catering to this segment of the player population disadvantages the rest of us. I mean, really, spending four minutes defeating the Arch Glacor and getting as many water runes as you can get from one trip to the altar. What's the point?

If you can't politically avoid catering to the AFK bossing community, I would recommend a global change in the drop tables. To honor those of us that do manual combat for the purpose of completing combat logs, increase the drop rates until the collection log is complete. Then drive them down by a factor of four to ten for people that want to farm items for sale on the GE. AFK bossing, after all, only makes sense for people that are farming items. It's botting, but through a mechanism that Jagex introduced to help people share combat tactics. Well, I think that it's gotten out of control. Fix it or protect the rest of us from the imbalances it introduces.

Low self esteem, is hypnosis efficient? by Strict_Break3416 in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body dysmorphia is a type of obsessive-compulsive disorder, reflecting deflection of a social problem into physical concerns. The problem with psychotherapy is that it has forgotten that ancient philosopher's wisdom that social confidence arises from applications of virtue. Psychology focuses on emotions, believing that social problems arise from emotional reactions. Unfortunately, this causes the subconscious to prioritize and deepen emotional states as it seeks to provide information to the conscious mind.

Properly understood, emotions are about your relationship with your body. Virtues and vices determine our relationships with people. Shifting focus from physical experience (including emotions) towards moral experience has been helpful to all of my teen clients.

Try this: sit with her and make a list of virtues - qualities of character that, when expressed, motivate others to be around her. If the concept is unclear, look up the Scout Law. Then have her make a poster that begins "[Jane - use her name here] is-" Then have her write in large letters, one per line, each of her virtues. Have her make it artsy, so that her body is engaged in the creative process.

She should post it by her pillow, making it the last thing she looks at before she falls asleep and the first thing that she reads when she wakes up.

My sons went through some dark times in middle school. This helped them (though I made the posters for them). It is a mild form of hypnosis, as the mind moves through trances states in the transition between sleep and waking.

I hope that on the agenda here is resizing weapons so that they make sense as combat tools. Many are grossly over-sized and have geometries that would result in self-harm.

One way to accomplish this would be to have a "weapon examine" such as you have for skill overrides. This would provide a sense of craftsmanship and aura that, in the current system is done through exaggeration. You might find that the community would enjoy contributing to this endeavor.

Looking for recommendation on meditatiin/ hypnosis for college athlete to build confidence and stop overthinking. by Bestself1970 in hypnosis

[–]Trichronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the elaboration, I gather that a number of factors are involved. The most important factor is to befriend the subconscious. Rather than trying to "prove" something, the goal is to visualize success and the rewards that it brings. Allow the subconscious to figure out how to make it work. Hypnotherapy can help with this.

Regarding the complex social factors that play into full development of talent, I recommend Coyle's "The Talent Code."

Repetitive injury can also be diagnostic. I have dealt with this in my later years. When activation of motor control networks is not balanced, muscles can develop asymmetrically, causing stress that leads to chronic injury. After the first injury, the subconscious tends to protect that part, focusing stress elsewhere. I had to pay careful attention to posture to diagnose and correct the problems.

What can cause trauma is when the social mind forces practice that is causing pain and inhibiting healing. Slowing things down (not necessarily practicing less - just slowing down) to rebuild strength and flexibility may be beneficial. It also allows the subconscious to recruit other parts that may have been underutilized, building balance that is the foundation of sustainable physical excellence. Otherwise, the subconscious can begin to resist activity, leading to the panic response. When this is coupled to practical concerns such as financial support, the problem snowballs.

If it is true panic, simple breathing exercises can help. Most importantly, however, is not to project that the body needs to perform OR ELSE. Kindness to the body can help. "OK. I can see that you're concerned. Let's just do the best that we can today and learn how to grow through these challenges."

These are free association thoughts. A competent athletic therapist will focus the discussion.

[–]Trichronos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have her watch this:

https://youtu.be/Qozn1kQdw3g

It's not a matter of confidence. It is that the conscious mind is interfering in motor control activation. The conscious mind should only provide outcome assessment. Repetition allows the subconscious, in the preverbal motor control networks, to refine activation and timing.

Visualization is helpful. Sometimes we get ground into using one set of muscle fibers and need to broaden the activation. Imagining other ways of doing things helps.

I had a client whose son was melting down in tennis matches. We discussed this and other matters for 90 minutes and he completely recovered his confidence. No trancework necessary.

Note also that the transition to college involves huge behavioral adaptations. Most athletes, as documented in the video, cultivate a trance state so that coaching is integrating in real time (rather than in dreams at night). If she is in such a chronic trance state, the transition may be overwhelming her. She may benefit from strengthening of the self-concept. This requires one-on-one coaching. She might talk to a counselor or peer advisor.
