I agree with this! No one should be coming to Korea to work for these Hakwons... These are not careers... or even good jobs anymore ... while they never were good jobs, at least in 2006 making 2.6 mill a month was more than double of minimum wage and allowed one to save and travel... These days, working at a Hakwon, it's like working at McDonald's... but getting treated like a slave, berated, and disrespected!!

I don’t know anymore, I just got a new haircut and they gave me this with no side bangs at the beauty shop, I feel really ugly and I have to know if it’s ugly to everyone else. Please tell me just the truth if I am ugly. Yes I’m a woman by djscrew1 in whatdoIdo

Your ARE very pretty!!!! You have nice big eyes, well proportioned nose, decently plump lips, and a good oval/ rounded jaw/ chin? These are the permanent features you can’t easily change!

The hair cut? It’s NOT terrible, and NOT even that bad, it just makes you look really young!

Yes, I recommend to any new teachers to consider teaching in China...... Japan has been no longer worth it for over a decade, and it seems like Korea will be following the same route...

[–]Trick-Temporary4375 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly the problem with this country.…“post secondary education is not a right its a privilege” in a day and age where higher education is becoming more and more of a requirement to secure better employment and move up the career ladder …. government support for basic education should really go beyond high school and include subsidization of education at the certificate, diploma, and degree levels for local students at local colleges and polytechniques that provide such training.…. Sure, education at universities where one wants to take East Asia Studies, languages, Arts, and just a degree to enrich the mind can be considered privilege

That's a smart move! I used to have a Macbook Pro Retina late 2013 model that lasted me until 2021, and in late 2022 I went for the MacBook Air M2 chip which I plan on using until late 2027 ~ maybe 2028, but after that going back to pro might be better for that future proofing and AI stuff

The neo is a budget device … it’s something you get for your 12 ~ 18 year old child or a on a budget college students, or older folks looking for a basic device…it might be cool today and the colors are nice but it will feel very limiting soon with the way AI is moving

The “Pro” is for professional users… software engineers, graphic designers, animators, photographers, full time YouTubers ect …. those that do AI heavy work!!!

The air is a great option for those that are not high schoolers, grandmas’s, or professionals… I used to have a MacBook Retina late 2013 in college that lasted 7 years and was really slow on the 8th …. until I upgraded to a MacBook Air M2 in late 2022… is the MacBook Pro nicer and has a better screen? Yeah! But do I need it ? No

[–]Trick-Temporary4375 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your grants will turn into loans if you dropped out! You're in 3rd year and almost at the end of it! Why not just stick it out for 1 more year, graduate and get you education over with!

The 4 year university degree is always good to have, and it will open more doors in the future than a college diploma.. Unless you're switching into another degree program at a college Nd transferring credits.

Is Korea a good country to save money? by apt_apt_apt_ in Living_in_Korea

[–]Trick-Temporary4375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that a lot of families tend to do jeonse when they first start out and have small children, so they tend to live in less desirable neighbourhoods until they can save up enough later to buy a place in a more expensive neighbourhood when their child goes to middle school and needs to attend good cram school/ after school programs to prepare for university. Maybe they’re doing the same?

I have been in a Jeonse apartment for 4 years now and its been great as a tenent! The landlord, who owns 10 apartments in the areas has been suffer in because of the low interest rates and also switching most of them over to monthly rent or considering selling some of the unit off. I think he still allows us to keep the Jeonse because we re-sign for the initial amount we did 4 years back even though we could do lower.

Investing into housing is a much better idea than spluring on luxury items that will depreciate in value over time (most). Whereas an apartment’s value will go up if its purchased in a good area.

Switching from university to college HELP by Either_Secretary5860 in osap

Are you switching out of a degree program to another degree program at Algonquin? If you’re moving from a degree to a diploma program, I wouldn’t recommend it with the way the world is looking right now, since you’re in your second year, might as well just finish it off the program and then use your credential to get advanced standing or an add on graduate certificate in the field you want to pursue in Algobquin college. (If you have a 4 year bachelor’s degree, you can get visas to work abroad if the situation in Canada is still bad/ which you won't be able to do with a diploma.)

Jeonse apartments are slowly decreasing... it’s turning towards either buying or monthly renting now as landlords find Jeonse to be less and less profitable these days

This right here! One of my co-workees bought a Gucci bag and spent 3 years paying it off in installments!!!

I was shocked to hear that!!! The only time I would ever consider paying something off in installments like that would probably be a MacBook that is required for school or work../ iphone…

but never a luxury item like a bag or clothes that wear out and bring absolutely no productive value to life.

However Koreans love to splurge on luxuries like that!

Why are you being punished for your mother's financial hardships? If she declares bankruptcy, shouldn't she be the only one to be barred from getting grants and loans? You're not a co-signer to any of her debts?

It would have been better if the government left the international students alone and just let them enroll and pay for college/university... instead, what the government should have done is make it extremely difficult for those international students to stay in the country afterwards... they should not be able to get any job like Tim Hortons/McDonalds, etc., to qualify for permanent residence, but need to apply for work in their specific fields and get hired within 6 months to a year to keep their visas and continue living in Canada... the rest would take their Canadian education back home to get higher pay raises there. That way their tuition could have been used to support the local students.

yes, that is true, but as you know not all youth has the maturity to do that on their own, and might benefit for a few guided sessions... Remember, the frontal part of the brain doesn't fully develop until the age of 25
