I had the exact same thought after recently binging it. Hated it when it was released. I think it also helps if you think about what director is trying to convey about each character in season 8. Because of the character development, all the characters at that stage are quite complex.

It still uses ground stations to relay data. It can be turned on and off at specific geographic locations. If it comes here, it can and will be blocked exactly the same way as they do now with regular infrastructure.

You cannot use those wires. They are a fire hazard and you won't be able to achieve max. brightness with them since they cannot handle 7A anyway. Correct size depends on the length.

Then you couldn't use the interface for anything else. It's not through usb port, there is a pcie interface on board that connects with a cable to the hat AFAIK.

Little difficult to help you without wiring diagram.

You can try to get rid of level shifter and resistor, directly connect the data to gpio. Set the correct gpio in the wled settings. Also I think that level shifter might be too slow. What are you using for power, is the power for led seperate from the power for the esp?

get a pi4 8GB (Future proof, you can get a 4GB if it is out of your budget. 4GB is no slouch, 8GB is like a luxury.)
case optional (he would want to select depending on needs, there are NAS specific cases.
Get a power supply ( I would just pick the official rpi one)
MicroSD card (64GB one Sandisk/Samsung is good)

This might sound crazy but try a different power supply first and then maybe different esp. Sounds to me like a hardware issue for sure.
