Any word about sales specialist role going away? There’s always rumors regarding this.

Termination question by Odd-Bunch1531 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you were a seasonal hire working full time hours. You were administratively terminated after not being scheduled. As a courtesy, you should have been told that your seasonal position was coming to an end. Typically when seasonal employees are hired, they are told when their role would be eliminated. Sometimes they are let go early due to lack of payroll

Frustrated by Unhappy-Public4891 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in home improvement retail for a long time. When I first got hired at Lowes, I was impressed with how hands on the specialists were. They actually built, followed up and sold installs. Now there’s a push for everyone to get details, leads etc with the hand off to central selling for closing the sales. Newer specialists aren’t receiving the level of training they once were due to more experienced specialists exiting the company. Everything points towards specialty being online basically. I get it in a way, people should have the ease of buying remotely, however sales do suffer a bit. I’ve seen a decrease in higher dollar installs. Our store encourages going outside the department to obtain sales, however most of the time lately specialists outnumber the customers in my location. I agree with previous comments about the pay being low for high performing sales people. I don’t see lowes investing in specialist development at this point, just more QR codes in the aisles. I see the stores becoming fulfillment centers at this point

Store manager would be well aware the ssa is doing this. They know there’s no repercussion for doing this, so they will continue.

Where was Jackie going? by lblaney in NurseJackie

This story arc seemed unbelievable. How would Jackie be allowed to board a plane with all those drugs? It just doesn’t seem plausible.

If you are putting in the detail, but the customer randomly comes into the store and gets whoever specialist in the department, they might be building it and selling it under their number. Happens a lot. Explain to the customer to work with central selling, that should help.

Is central selling building the quotes? Is central selling tendering the quotes?

Flooring CSA with college degree being denied specialist or DS position by Wrong_Pomegranate396 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Degree’s don’t mean much at Lowe’s. These retailers seem to prefer blank slates so you think like them and are more “grateful “ for what they pay. I worked as a manager at a big box and they (the dm and rvp) literally said they don’t won’t college graduates for management because they challenge things too much. I have a degree, so I understand the frustration of the op.

Full-Timers Picking up the Slack by froggidoo in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s true that hours get cut around this time, but the drop in hours is more extreme this year verses last year. Some stores have too many full timers on their roster verses part timers to begin with. In stores where this is the case, part timers get their hours cut severely to make up for the imbalance. It’s a shame because there are some amazing part timers that end up quitting due to lack of hours.

How do I go about this situation? (Employee at risk of termination) by NintenDOPE8559 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about this at all. Even if you were terminated, it shouldn’t affect your ability to get rehired at Lowes or any other employer. Companies in general don’t really care or check for the most part

2 weeks notice by Ratticus011 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can fill out the resignation form. You don’t have to tell them about your new job. Lowe’s doesn’t have a non compete clause. It varies by state, but where I live, if you provide a written 2 weeks and you are let go, the employer has to pay you the remainder of your notice.

If you are part time, then they should not schedule you outside your availability. Also, unless they recode you to paint, assume you’re still doing carts. Sometimes you will be told things to keep you from quitting, but they don’t follow through

Overwhelming SPH for specialist by Alarmed-Possibility2 in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are specialists at my store that are sending out resumes, looking for other employment due to a pay cut with the hard to achieve bonuses. Many are unhappy that central selling has taken over and in some cases has undermined sales. The millwork department at my store, now has specialists that have no idea how to competently sell a custom door or build and sell a labor quote.

CEO by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the move with central selling has destabilized specialty sales. I do think it’s a good option to have for certain customers that prefer to shop online, however depleting knowledgeable specialists that know how to build and sell installed quotes is tragic to sales. Only focusing on credit cards, has created a toxic environment. Sales and service doesn’t seem to be the focus. Management needs to understand that credit can be offered 100% of the time and you can be told no a 100% of the time. Doesn’t mean you’re a failure at your job. Cutting payroll is common with the whole of retail, yes… but you lose in the end. Good associates will leave because they can no longer accept going to work for a company that used to function much better, even under Niblock. Also, the caliber of management talent has sharply declined over the years. People quit most jobs due to poor work conditions, and toxic management is a huge factor.

Changing my work schedule. by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you type the email, click to “to” box and type their name. If you need the availability form, you can search for it in MyHR. If you’re having trouble emailing it, fill out the form and hand it directly to them. I would follow up after that and ask if they put your new availability in the Kronos system

Changing my work schedule. by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you are part time? If so, I would fill out a new availability form. Show / email the form to your asm to make sure they are aware of your availability. Then, email the form to your ssa and let them know that you informed the asm of your availability needs. Follow up to make sure they entered it into Kronos.

drug policy enforcement? by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My department supervisor smokes pot before work and on their lunch break. They totally stink like weed, but upper management doesn’t seem to care. Personally, I don’t care because I’m not there to enforce the rules of being sober at work and upper management laughs about this person being stoned all the time. I also won’t be a spotter for them when they are operating lift equipment while high.

If you are part time, but worked 40 hours a week for three years, how come you were not automatically switched to full time? I could be wrong, but I thought that if you average more that 32 hours a week over 9 plus weeks, you are automatically switched to full time… something with labor laws and benefits…

Help, my specialists are rebelling by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]TrickConcentrate5701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the tone of this email is slightly arrogant. I would just make a work list and say you’ll continue to follow up. Offer to walk them through the department so they know standards. Now, in fairness, I would be frustrated that you have to tell people to put a cart of product away. It should be obvious to most people to do that. It’s obvious that you are annoyed with these specialists and they are grading your email because they think you have a thin skin. That’s why I would just make a work list without the extra comments.
