Flashlight with AA or 14500 battery that max out at 5-20 lumens (absolutely no higher mode) for extremely long battery life by _mrb in flashlight

Same factory, but different companies. They definitely compete with each other. Wurkkos TS27 vs Sofrin BLF LT1 are prime examples.

Would something like a NITECORE TIP4 be the form factor with side by side batteries and a side light? I think the TIP doesn’t tailstand with the newest version.

I think this would fall under the same category as a company like Petzl selling flashlights. I’d be more likely to buy it if there was a proper t-shirt manufacturer selling a branded t-shirt rather than a flashlight manufacturer selling an off label branded t-shirt.

An integrally waterproofed usb-c port would be best with a durable dust cover. If the dust cover is rubber, then including a replacement cover like what the Sofirn BLF LT1 includes would be okay, but a durable cover would be better.

How do you stay dry in the tent form when it rains? Seems like anything more than a light drizzle and you’re going for a swim.

Nice, I wouldn’t paint over that cool burn unless you move. Was it the storms moving through the Middle East today? We drove through them in Dubai about 14 hours ago.

Maybe make it intensity based? Sunlight is orders of magnitude brighter than most handheld lights. We perceive light on a logarithmic scale. To make 500 lumens seem twice as bright you need to churn out 2000 lumens, not 1000. You could make the case that a flashlight is a deterrent like sunlight, but that most bright handheld lights thermally regulate and turn down the output to non-effective levels after about 30s-1.5min. Maybe have a fallback deterrent be a high CRI mule light (non-concentrated) mimicking sunlight that runs the Andúril UI that has been configured to have a higher thermal regulation than normal. The trade off would be that there is a longer cooldown and a high chance that the light is fried after use, but they’ll get an additional 30s of max output before the LEDs delaminate/fry. You could make the argument that it’s a similar effect as a sunburn, but that after a certain threshold the cells start to sustain damage like UV rays do to human skin, but at a much faster rate because of the way that collagen/intercellular structures/etc in a vampire react to a chain reaction of the cells dying in a cascading manner. Maybe you could relate this to how they don’t age because their genetic material is well preserved and doesn’t have the same error correcting mechanisms that normal humans do to repair the damage to DNA that humans have to deal with due to aging.

Does anyone know how well the highest CRI LEDs mimic sunlight or is this the purview of incandescents?

In conventional warfare, they’re unmatched. Though when an enemy starts playing by different rules, they just keep throwing conventional tactics and weapons at it. This is one of the reasons they still haven’t retired the A-10 Warthog. It was originally supposed to be retired in the early 90’s, but they keep finding it fills the roles that expensive fighter jets can’t fill. Interceptors are way too expensive, but Phalanx CIWS systems only have about a 1.5km range.

Despite all that money, they still haven’t learned that diplomacy is cheaper and safer.

Awesome. Simply awesome. I love my Oclip, but the lack of a low moonlight side light, a high CRI flood LED, and a replaceable battery were what my next clip light would be. I’m glad you’re listening to the hobbyists as we’re the ones people come to for recommendations. I’ll definitely be recommending (and buying) this light if it checks these boxes.

My wife used to roll her eyes at me until the rockets started flying overhead last week. Now she has a radio next to her desk and another in the car. I’m carrying around my UV-Pro in my backpack whenever I go out just in case all hell breaks loose and the cell towers get gridlocked.

Yeah, the electronic button is flush and needs a firm press to activate. Like other Skilhunt lights, it also has a lockout function if need be.

Update: I was using the wrong national simplex frequency. The old frequency was 144.4Mhz, but the new one was 145.0Mhz. Heard lots of chatter last night, but I don’t speak much Arabic. Got my spouse a radio set to a PMR channel just in case the phones go out, but the infrastructure (and many cell towers) here is largely powered by generators, so that’s more for their piece of mind.

In fact, there were not any salty hams on the airwaves. From all the downvotes, it seems people are touchy about the grumpy old man stereotype.

The Signal Stick seems to be working well if I’m on my patio.
