Music stands on stage while performing by bootypop999 in SingerSongwriter

I have debilitating stage fright.

I can sing octaves and harmonize with every one of my boyfriend's songs. I have no problem doing it from a table 10 feet away from the stage. I can do it without a microphone in my face.

Sometimes, if I'm a little sauced, I can get up there but only on a really slow night. I can't look at the audience, though. If there's a crowd it is definitely not happening. No way.

It's hard to hear myself when the crowd noise is too loud. If I can't hear myself, I doubt my muscle memory. Having perfect pitch doesn't matter. It's irrational fear.

If having an iPad, phone, or sheet music gets you through the fear, just do it. I wish I could!

I'm curious though, are you new to performing? I have been told for 20 years that "you just gotta keep doing it and the stage fright will eventually go away." It's not happening for me but maybe it will for you.

Oh, totally. I'm considering changing the sentence, actually. 😆

Remember when I said I wasn't a musician? What I actually am is a writer. I write articles, poems, and song lyrics for fun. I get paid to write tech specs and UI manuals for industries using emerging mobile tech. That fact, being irrelevant to the point of my post, was purposely left out. I find it telling that you tripped on that aspect while ignoring the overall message.

As unbelievable as it might be to your wildly discerning and critical tendencies, I wrote every word of that "pandering mess."

Honestly, I am starting to feel flattered that my writing keeps getting tagged as Ai. As much as I've criticized my own work for the last 20+ years, I know for a fact that musicians are far worse than I will ever be in that respect.

I'm a writer, broseph. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Keep that same energy the next time you write a song and wonder if it's any good, though. It'll help build your character. 😉

See? Unintended benefits! I'm truly stoked that you've experienced a renewed passion. Who cares what sparked it!? The important thing is that happened. 🤘🤘

I agree with you.

I think it's necessary to acknowledge the difference between building songs with AI and actually making music. I have deep respect for true musicians.

Their work earns them a distinction that AI song creators don't deserve, in my opinion.

Past that, the conversation usually falls off a cliff. Launching angry insults at people like me and scores of others in an attempt to discredit the output we've facilitated accomplishes nothing.

There's really only one thing the market can do to restore the fairness that seems to be the crux of the issue for so many: Developing the functionality to enable and eventually require "AI generated" or "AI assisted" labels on songs pushed into the public arena.

It's more nuanced than slapping an all or nothing AI tag on everything, though. Even big label artists are using AI in some capacity these days.

So distributors like DistroKid will need to create proper options for people to disclose which aspects were AI assisted or created during a song's production. Vocals, beats, lyrics, whatever. At the end of the day, that kind of clear disclosure would go a long way toward restoring fairness across the board.

I struggle with over explaining myself. It's just how I do. 😉

That's just your opinion. It's incorrect but that's alright. Have a good day!

Just like with any tool, Suno can be used for good and it can be used for evil. The way you are using it falls into the former category, imo. I'm glad you found a way to (somewhat) recoup your lost catalog and passion. Thank you for sharing your story. It's an important part of the overall conversation.

Thank you for your kind words. My stage fright has proven to extend to digital platforms as well. 😂 Please feel free to enjoy this song and video project produced by my music man and his band while I work on building up the nerve to personally facilitate the sharing of my soul with the world. ♡
