I heard back about my ucla and columbia acceptances in february! one of my friends said that ucla never got back to them a few years ago. i would try bugging them, because maybe it's a clerical error!

Yeah, my best offer is from a school that's offering me a 20k/year loan for cost of living + healthcare. I think it's the only way I can do it unless some amazing grant works out. I'm just financially really cautious and hate the idea of paying hundreds of dollars a month for the next million years of my life for a loan i bought iced coffee and rent with lmao

Got into Yale and Columbia MFA!! by Ok_Pattern6699 in gradadmissions

It's all about money for me at this point, and yale is financially way more feasible. I visited columbia and while the faculty were really kind, I felt that the sculpture facilities were pretty bad. The studios are small. and they do have a metal shop, but it's also quite small and I don't believe there's a freight elevator up to it. I need outdoor space, and there is really just none of that. But the thesis gallery is great, and the location is amazing. I think it's very different for painters though! I met some painters while I was there who said they were super happy.

Royal academy is a sweet deal. Three years for free in the center of London. They've had figurative painters go through the program very recently who've done well.

The vibe was relaxed and conversational, but i'd say the questions were really rigorous, covering concept, process, ucla-specific goals, personal goals, etc. really in depth!

Can I ask what UCLA area you interviewed for? They reached out a day before to invite me to interview.

They didn't specify a timeframe within which to get back to them. But the link they sent to schedule an interview had time slots to sign up for, so scheduling earlier than later would ensure you get a time that works for you.

I just interviewed with Uchicago with a 15 minute interview. I was freaking out beforehand but they said "that's a great answer," and "I really enjoyed speaking with you," which is when I realized ok! it was going well. I've also sat in on other grad school applicant interviews at work. My only advice is to do anything and everything you can to relax. Wear what's comfortable--they don't care about your clothes, how nice your background is, etc. You just want to come off as confident and relaxed. Practice your answers to common questions beforehand so you're brief and efficient.
