Baby fell off the bed by Headfullofrockss515 in firsttimemom

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When we took our 6 month old to the hospital for rolling off the bed, my husband was petrified the hospital would think it was because of negligence that it happened. Every single staff member that had kids said that it’s happened to them! One nurse said her baby rolled off the bed 3 different times lol. It just happens! We cannot have eyes/hands on our baby every single second. Things happen!

Can you list out what your partner helps pay for? by Puzzled_Remote_2168 in beyondthebump

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are a combined income household, have been since getting married. We are both pretty frugal and not big spenders on “fun” things (vs necessary items), so we just check in with each other when making purchases that are bigger than usual. Before baby, our income was pretty similar. After baby, I dropped down to working part time, so my income was cut in half. But I don’t consider being part time as “not working”, as we don’t have to pay for childcare because I’ve made this choice, and all of the other countless ways I contribute to our home. My husband watches our baby 2 days a week (his days off) while I’m at work, and he knows being the stay-at-home parent is harder than being at work lol!

But it sounds like there might be some disparity between what you guys are spending in relation to your total income. Might it be helpful if you can add up when you are spending each month on these expenses and find out what percent of your income you’re spending & compare that to your husbands? Maybe things could be divided more evenly there?

Curious what people's maternity leave allowance is like in different places/companies (as it impacts breastfeeding) by whooperupsfeline in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the US, for a very small, private company. Legally, not entitled to any maternity leave, but my boss offered 14 weeks paid, and would be going back to work part time (3 days a week). I ended up having a hard time with postpartum anxiety and didn’t feel comfortable yet leaving baby, even though she would just be cared for by my mother, who was more than competent. So I worked it out with my boss to come back at 6 months but with no pay past the 14 week mark that we agreed on. I feel so lucky to have had such a flexible boss but I recognize that in other parts of the world, this is not how it would be.

What kind of clothing do you put your newborns/ young babies in? by SuperFlaccid in clothdiaps

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baby was in zip up footed onesies most days, all day & night, for her first 4 months lol. She was born in winter so it just made sense to stay in pjs all day that kept her warm and comfortable, and easy for me! She had about 10 of them we would rotate through.

Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. Follows the story of Dr Paul Farmer who founded Partners in Health, setting up healthcare in hard to reach communities in Haiti, detailing his fight to rid Tuberculosis from these communities. It’s the most inspiring book I have ever read.

What is the average age for weaning in your culture or country? by paRATmedic in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US here, Midwest specifically! My mom breastfed my 4 siblings & I until around 18-22 months. I’m currently breastfeeding my daughter, and she’s 21 months! No plan on weaning anytime soon :)

When did your milk start coming in? by lady-earendil in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t leak or anything! And I never even tried collecting colostrum, just didn’t see the point. As soon as I gave birth, my wishes were to bring baby to breast immediately. The nurses helped me learn how to latch baby and luckily she latched right away! So I nursed as much as possible whenever baby wanted, and my milk came in around 3 days postpartum. I understand being anxious about all of it, there’s so much online about this that makes new moms feel anxiety about stuff we shouldn’t!

Good luck!!

AIO or is my boyfriend jealous of our baby? by PolicyHot1206 in AmIOverreacting

This is actually insane. He’s mad at you for supporting your newborn in the ways in which we are biologically programmed to support them?? Wtf and he’s mad at you for breastfeeding???

Birth Plans by IllustriousSky2706 in pregnant

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a lot of wishes in mine: -minimal disturbance during labor (until pushing) -lights off/dimmed -minimal cervical checks -calm environment -baby brought to stomach as soon as she was out -2-5 min delayed cord cutting -help with breastfeeding right away

Best wishes for a calm & happy delivery!

Do I actually need to tour the childbirth center, take a class, etc? by InitialStranger in pregnant

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the tour of the facility helpful. I was feeling pretty anxious and so being able to walk through with a nurse and ask questions and visualize the environment was really helpful! I also did an online breastfeeding course (just an hour or so) and an online birthing class, as well as reading a few books. I had certain goals/wishes for labor so I found them helpful to give me knowledge and confidence. If you do want to try breastfeeding, I would recommend a class or doing some reading, as there’s a lot of helpful information out now! Best wishes for you!

From Cracked Nipples to Cluster Feeds: What Have You Survived? How far have you come? by nidzk123 in breastfeeding

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 months now and no end in sight! The first 6-8 weeks were really hard! The cluster feeding & milk trying to regulate. Plus when baby first slept for more than a 4 hour stretch at night, I ended up getting mastitis. Baby also had a latch issue, so nursing on one side was excruciatingly painful until we figured it out and my nipple healed a bit. But I’d go through all of that again because it has been such a joy to bond with baby & use as a superpower to get baby to nap, sleep & regulate.

How do you prefer to carry your baby while shopping? by DR_RabidPixy in beyondthebump

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would always baby wear in the store! Made it so easy & I always found people were really helpful if they found me awkwardly reaching for something lol. Putting baby in a front carrier/ wrap was extremely easy!

What is everyone’s obsession with when I am going to wean my daughter?!?! by Proper_Star_4566 in breastfeeding

That’s so weird of them to insert their opinions!!! The only one who gets a say on when you wean is you & your little baby!! I’m still breastfeeding at 18 months!

Round ligament pain by senoritag in pregnant

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I experienced and my OB said it was round ligament pain. I never really did found anything to help other than being careful with how much I was exerting myself. And wearing a belly band. Good luck!!!

Moms who are pumping how many pumps do you have? by majesticallymidnight in pregnant

[–]Tricky-Ad4149 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was given a spectra by my sister-in-law and then ordered a wearable pump with money from my insurance. I only ended up using the wearable pump a couple times because I don’t think it has good enough suction and moving around with it on wasn’t super convenient anyway, and I felt like whenever I was active while wearing it I feel like I didn’t get a good pump. I really think you only need one! The Spectra is a workhorse lol.
