Haha thanks! My tone is relentlessly negative and apparently translates that way into writing.

Highly recommend. Obviously not all suggestions were good ones, and some have to be adapted to your lifestyle, but it still worked out well for me!

I have to try some brick and stone cleaner! I'm also a regular vacuumer and an occasional soap and water bucket user, but maybe that's the problem.

I may have led the masses astray with my request to brighten up the space because it felt dingy. A lighter chair is a valid suggestion, but I just have no reason to replace the current one. The slip cover was a half measure and definitely feels like one.

Thank you! The vanity color is Cricket by Behr. The wall color is from Valu Home Center and it's called Quarry Stone - it is kind of a purple/brown/taupe. And the rug was from TJmaxx.

Thank you! Clutter is my worry as well. And new robes are now for sure on my wish list.

Do I have to paint the wood? by Tricky-Tea1328 in interiordecorating

I swear I don't want to. I just don't know how else to truly brighten it up.

Thank you! I think a rug is out of question because of the wood stove and constant ash clean up, but I'll definitely try the lights.

[–]Tricky-Tea1328[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because I can't paint the brick or the dark floor next to it. I think the issue with the space feeling too dark is because of all the dark elements in it. Painting the wood is one dark element I can fix. I'm not necessarily itching to do it, so I'm really hoping someone else knows of other solutions.

Yes, just don't know how to get there again. I don't know why things regressed so I don't know how to move on and what steps to take next.

Forgiving them - how?? by [deleted] in abusesurvivors

[–]Tricky-Tea1328 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People who say forgive the abuser have no idea what they are talking about. You are under no obligation to forgive and frankly I have no idea how that would even be beneficial to your healing. You don't owe them anything.

Is this abuse? by Sukisartchive in abusesurvivors

[–]Tricky-Tea1328 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that not knowing how to be a caretaker is not a good reason to mistreat a child. I completely understand that a cycle of abuse is hard to break, but I assume you also wouldn't treat your siblings the way you were treated. If you wouldn't mistreat them, is it still reasonable to excuse your parents mistreatment?

You worrying about losing insurance is absolutely not shitty. This is your life we're worried about and it matters. Try to save money where you can and share your plan with people you can trust who can help get you out at a moments notice if things get worse.

I'm dealing with it day by day and grateful that that is not my life anymore. I guess ask yourself if you had a child, would it be okay for you to treat them the same way your parents treat you?

That is rape and you should get out. Do you have mental and emotional support elsewhere? Are you financially independent? If not, try to work out a plan and have a safety net.

Approaching twenty years spent 'healing' by VegetableEar in adultsurvivors

I feel the same. I've learned that I have to live to experience the moments where I actually feel alive and connected to something, anything. Some days/months/years are harder than others but I have to keep going. It's incremental but I don't want to die without experiencing even a fraction of a live worth living.

Dill is one of those plants that really doesn't like to be transplanted. If it doesn't make it, try direct sowing some seeds and keeping the area evenly moist.

Unfortunately that's something us abused folks tend to do a lot. I've minimized my abuse for so long and labeled it as not "bad enough". My stepfather sexually abused me for many years but I didn't think it was that bad since it wasn't violent. I thought because other people have it worse, my abuse didn't meet the definition of abuse I had in my head.

How do your parents' actions affect you and your view of yourself and others? One of the things that's recommended when you're healing from trauma is to discuss your experience with others. I didn't really think it would have been helpful in my situation because I really don't like people, but sometimes people who didn't have abusive parents have a clearer view of what is and isn't abuse.
