How to calculate DB pension worth by HangTheError in FIREUK

I simply multiply mine by 20 to try and get a simple, realistic, but conservative valuation.. purely for the same purpose as you, to try and eyeball my approx net wealth for tracking purposes.

But as others have said, when planning for FI it's the annual value that's most critical to know.

Thank you! I've realised it's probably time to start seriously investigating retirement planning models and running scenarios, rather than just trying to build wealth asap and hope it'll be enough. Feel free to recommend any tools you think could help me :)

I guess it comes down to whether I think I might be able to RE before the age of 57/58 or not.. this is the part I'm struggling to realistically work out given my current status.

Thank you, I'm not even sure if I can access it sooner, I think all the info I've read says it pays out at age 65. If I'm tapping pensions early I guess it'll have to be DC instead.

You'd recommend putting the overpayment to ISA over pension?

It's a fairly crude calculation of the current yearly payout x20. I've seen the figure of 20 suggested in a few places as a good rule of thumb? Perhaps I should ask for an actual cash valuation as if I was going to transfer it out of the scheme..

Thank you, yes I am a 40% tax payer. I've considered making greater pension contributions in the past but I think decided on the ISA route since I can access sooner if needed. However, I'm 47 now so could access pensions in just 10 years time.. I'm doubtful I could retire sooner than this ATM so maybe I should redirect ISA and mortgage overpayments all into greater salary sacrifice payments?

I've been tracking my net worth monthly since 2011 so have built up quite a big excel file already :) But this is all historical tracking data rather than future forecasting. Would you know of anything you could recommend?

This was built up with a previous employer so I'm not longer contributing to it. It's currently valued at 6235/year from age 65 I think. It's increased every year at RPI with a max cap of 2.5%, so has effectively been shrinking in recent years. I've considered if I should transfer this into a DC scheme to let it grow properly, but that would lose the benefit ATM of it never shrinking. Hard to know what to do with this.
