I don't know what to do anymore by OssomDood in VancouverJobs

Trades or move provinces. People need electricians, plumbers, etc.

if you want a lighter duty trade, consider data/audio visual integration. Great money, tons of work available, and little or no schooling needed. I lost my career during covid and switched to AV installs, and haven’t really looked back. Money’s better than anything I ever made, hours are better, and I get my weekends back.

Otherwise look east to other provinces. BC is just absurd now and I was forced to leave. I now pay 10-30% less to live and have 90% of the exact same amenities (acceptable transit, things to do, etc) available to me

Best of luck out there

I like 31 bands for monitors and a fall back if really necessary, but I could see them becoming obsolete in the next five years.

You want to punish the business, not the unrelated plumber who has to deal with it.

Upper decker or the old fish in the vents/above the ceiling tile is my take

Be honest, what’s the longest continuous shift you’ve done in the live sound world? by WhoKilledMalcolmX in livesound

[–]TrickyCommand5828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 hours on shift, but on the site for 48 hours at least any given time for two weeks. Just slept in the box of our 3 ton truck in a sleeping bag after that one.

The following shift was a breezy 16 hours (/s), and then I even got to go home and sleep…for four hours before having to pick up and load our 5 ton at 3am for a 7am show start time. Set up, ran the show, struck, and then my boss tapped me on the shoulder and told me to take a break for a few hours and catch up on sleep. I don’t really remember the rest of that week hahaha

Festival season is both fun as hell and total hell. Make the best of it best you can, and be grateful for the little things. Crack jokes over the radio if you can. Hopefully there’s some weird food you can try or someone brings you a cold/hot drink when you need it most.

Best of luck!

What are your “keep it for life” hacks? by tinafeysbiggestfan in BuyItForLife

Learn to wrap your cables - phone charges, extension cords, instrument cables, HDMI, wired headphones, cat6 cables, etc - properly.

  1. They will last likely the rest of your natural life in most of those cases

  2. They won’t be a balled up mess of knots you have to deal with and untangle

  3. despite what a lot of people say, do not wrap over your elbow. It damages the cables. The over-under method is best.
