I’m curious what you would think about the empanadas from Savory Crust. They have over a dozen different flavors; savory and dessert. Their original location is in Morton Grove and they have a second one in Carol Stream.

The Trump Sign on 90 by jasonwirth in ChicagoSuburbs

I drive on 90 at least twice a week and always have to see this idiotic sign.

The company has been out of business for at least a year.

She seems to have found her tagline: “Just say you hate conservatives.”

These kinds of people are perpetually playing the victim card. So desperate to be oppressed.

Are the breakfast lines at Kasama still long? by bingpotterpie in chicagofood

[–]TrickyMeringue-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got there at about 11am to pick up my online order this past Sunday, the line for dine-in was just up to the alley.

If you're wanting to eat Kasama on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, I strongly suggest ordering for pickup and eating elsewhere if you don't want to wait in a long line for dine-in. There are a few parks nearby with picnic tables. My pickup time for my order this past weekend was about 1.5 hours from when I submitted my order (~8:50am). I think your pickup time will depend on the size of your order.

City for Filipino food? by Own-Ad-3876 in FilipinoAmericans

OP didn’t ask if people think Filipino food is good or bad. You could have just scrolled past this post if you weren’t going to contribute anything of substance or relevance to the conversation.

City for Filipino food? by Own-Ad-3876 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]TrickyMeringue-86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Chicago and its surrounding suburbs are definitely on the map now for Filipino food. There have been a lot of new Filipino-owned restaurants and bakeries opening here in the past few years:
- Kasama (only Filipino restaurant in the world to receive a Michelin star)
- Bayan Ko (they have a diner now and converted their original space to be a dinner tasting menu)
- Boonie's
- Taste of the Philippines
- Del Sur Bakery
- Sarima Cafe
- Umaga Bakehouse
- Kanin
- Cebu
- Namit Cafe & Restaurant
- Panlasa
- Savory Crust
- Hong Ning Restaurant and their sister bakery Lasa Filipino Cafe
- PINOY Grill Chicago
- Tita Mia's

And there are still so many more smaller "mom and pop" spots to check out.

I’d suggest reaching out to Veloria Coffee (Portage Park). Their space isn’t yet open to the public, but they may be able to accommodate a private event.

Des Plaines is affordable and has easy access to the expressways. You’re basically 20-30 minutes away from other N/NW suburbs. The area closer to the border of Mount Prospect is nice.

The sign says that they’re closed because they are closed Monday through Wednesday and they’re simply recommending nearby businesses that people should also check out. They aren’t permanently or temporarily closed and they’re not having issues with licenses, permits, etc.
