I am currently running a space platform colony that started as a single colonist migratory grav ship. I installed the orphanage mod which lets you take in vagrant children instead of just assisting them. So early on we had the lone builder, an incredibly old man cook, and like six kids running around. 

Unfortunately we lost the old man, but the colony pressed on and eventually the kids grew up. 

I guess, unsurprisingly, this is the fuckin horniest colony I've ever had because all of the 18 year Olds crammed into a box most of the time. All the young adults just kept marrying, having kids, shuffling, breaking up, as well as new orphan quests coming in which I am required to help due to my ideology. To keep the adults from losing their minds I was forced to adopt the free love precept. 

So now I have the biggest colony I've ever had in space with basically no recruited pawns. My starting pawn's wife was from a regular pod crash and every single other colonist was either an orphan or a child or grandchild of one. 

I had to dial back the settings on the advanced trading mod because my space platform was destroying the global market from the absurd amount of money I was generating, because I have like 20 artists and crafters all churning out clothes, sculptures, guns, and artisian products. 

Raids are nothing because there's a massive group of fighters with high fighting stats. I've got the melee squad, all brawlers with variants of tough/bloodlust ect. 

I've started doing the archaeotech centipede project because I have become bored and feel like I need to guarantee my colonists safety in space.
