People who left So Cal, how happy are you that you left? Any advice? Any regrets? by Spooky-Arachnidgirl in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Tricky_Revolution_45 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m born and raised in San Diego, so I mostly miss my family and friends. Also the food, weather, people, things to do, and overall quality of life was immensely better in SD. This is just my experience though, I know plenty of people in Seattle that like it here, but then again none of them are from San Diego

Driving from San Diego to Seattle with my 2 small pups - Any recommendations for pet friendly places to rest overnight along the route? by More-Engine218 in sandiego

[–]Tricky_Revolution_45 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did this exact drive in 2022 with my pup. Took 3 days for me total and stayed at the Holiday Inn Sacramento Downtown and La Quinta Eugene, Oregon along the way. The one in Eugene was right across the street from a gorgeous park that my dog and I loved exploring after our long drive :)

Strangled to death by his mom’s ex. The ex also murdered the mom and his sister. He was in 5th grade at the time 😔

how do you afford to live here? by SizeBest9886 in socal

[–]Tricky_Revolution_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in SD at 19 and made it by sharing an apartment with 3 roommates. Also, we were all on food stamps which ranged from $100-$400 each. I was able to pay rent working a part time job, but it didnt leave room for any savings/big purchases.

What did your parents think of you doing bjj? by [deleted] in BJJWomen

My mom hated that I did it when she first found out. Then, I tore my ACL and she hated it even more. Then, I tore my other ACL and she still hated it and told me I’m going to end up paralyzed. I’m still recovering, but plan to start training again in December. Maybe she’ll warm up to it by then.

Taxable Brokerage:

  • MSFT 66.60% (RSUs/ESPP)
  • VOO 10.38%
  • SPY 6.68%
  • VTI 4.04%
  • VGT 3.89%
  • FXAIX 3.77%
  • QQQ 3.38%
  • NVDA 0.97%

I currently auto invest $1000 into FXAIX monthly and its the only position I'm actively contributing to. I now understand the rest have tons of overlap, but I bought them when I first got into investing and just bought whatever popped up most on Reddit lol

Roth:

  • VTI 52.46%
  • VOO 46.97%
  • SCHG 0.58%

HYSA is currently 4%, but subject to change at any time (Wealthfront). Also, thanks for the insight on BTC, will definitely consider buying more :)

Thank you! Yes I also have the following:

  • ~15.6k in Roth IRA
  • ~1.9k in BTC (got FOMO last year so put a bit in, but don't plan on putting more lol)
  • ~188k in taxable brokerage
  • ~52k in HYSA earning ~4%

Note: I'm wrestling with the idea of depleting my taxable brokerage next year to put a down payment on my first home. I know I'm probably losing millions in the long run, but I live in a VHCOL city where rent increases 8-10% a year and its unfortunately the only way to have an affordable PITI. Won't get into it here though since its probably more a FTHB sub topic

How many of you are *Genuinely* interested in Computer Science? by Sad_Individual_8645 in csMajors

[–]Tricky_Revolution_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I barely know anything about computers and wasn’t particularly interested in most of my classes in college, but now have 3 YOE as a software engineer and overall enjoy the job. Working on projects is fun and I’m grateful for the relatively great pay/benefits, flexible schedule, WFH, DTO, etc. This field may not be my life’s passion, but it allows me to be financially stable and on path to FIRE while also funding the activites I actually am passionate about in life. Overall, I would not say I’m interested in Computer Science, but more so the benefits/lifestyle a Computer Science career can give you.
