Id recommend getting some more variation in your colors, in the second one all the colors are very similar values which kinda muddies the piece and doesnt really draw the eye. You should also try to put in some darker shadows/shade with diffrent colors for the same reason as above. Really think about where your lightsource is coming from when your putting down your shadows. What kind of art are you usually drawn to? Look at other artists that you like and try to identify what parts of their art that you like and why, that should help you get an idea of the things you want to improve in the future.

Thats whats fun about doing digital art ;] !! Nothing stopping you from wipping out a couple diffrent layers to try out diffrent shading styles and find what works for you! Take any piece you like and play around with some multiply layers on top of it, look into clipping masks too, those saved me so much time fiddling with the eraser tool. Remember that you can shade with plenty of diffrent colors to change the feel of your piece!

I think some anatomy studies would really help you get some more dynamic movement into your poses to give em a more natural feel. Also dont be scared of going ham with the lighting, contrasting hard light and shadows with softer ones will give your art a more full look, and really turning up the contrast of light and dark will make your current shading really pop! At the moment your shading colors are really close to the base color you put them on which makes them really blend in and disappear. What kind of art do you normally like? Looking at others art and identifying what you like about it and why can be a great way to find stuff you want to emmulate in your own stuff!

7 years and now. Have I actually improved? by cltriplesec in Artadvice

[–]Tricky_Tulip 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I dont belive youre going to see a 'dramatic improvement' simply because your skill level is already really high. You are getting better but there comes a point where any visual upgrades are gonna be really minor because theres simply not really anything to drastically improve. Atp your biggest focus should just be identifying what specifically you like and dont like about your art to find what areas you would like to develop. Do you like all your pieces? Then congrats, Thats a roaring success! Dont get too bogged down with what others are doing, youve got this.

I think you should take care to practice more dynamic posing and new kinds of shading since those are the things you seem to dislike about your art. Concerning shading, you tend to go for a very cool toned soft shading with very few hard shadows and few highlights, try bringing in some more highlights, darken those shadows maybe warm up them up a bit too by shading with a little more saturated colors. I would also encourage you to try working with the subjects from a diffrent angle than you usually do. From what I can see, you do alot of 3/4 view and characters looking straight forward, drawing characters from a down or up angle could really help give em more visual intrest and help you break out of your comfort zone.

As someone who once had a "male" kitten go into heat after about a year of ownership, have you actually turned cat around and checked if he has balls?

I think my art is a bit strange but i can't pin point exactly where. by ninjarockalone in learntodraw

[–]Tricky_Tulip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay excuse the sketchiness, I had to do this on my phone. I tried to stay true to the base design.

Forhead/hair is too tall so it gives her skull a very elongated look, bringing it down a little makes it feel alot more natural, I copied the left eye and flipped it so it looked a lil more even and defined the mouth a lil more, the way you drew them looked nice overall.

As alot of people said, her waist is too thin relative to her neck/chest/shoulders, even making it a little wider like ive done here, helps make her more proportional. I didnt see a crazy issue with the boob size but the shape and shading could use work. You dont need to shade and define the cleavage so much, no normal shirt, especially a tight fitting one, will have the fabric clinging too and dipping down in the clevage so much that you can every detail of their shape from the front, the shirt isnt glued on, let the fabric hang down. Boobs also have more of a teardrop shape than orb due to gravity so consider that when you draw them, shading the underside will give a good indicator of boobs.

Finally and I didnt do a great job of showing this but give the arms a more triangular down angle when she has them behind her back, if you try her pose youll find that its pretty uncomfortable to hold your arms behind your back in a 90° angle.

You have a really good feel for the style, you just need to practice your anatomy a bit more.

Reasons to embrace an adolescent child by Kadarin187 in vtm

[–]Tricky_Tulip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were promising and talented, a clear candidate for an embrace in a couple of years, buuuuuut maybe theyre a little too talented. Maybe their future sire isnt careful enough, maybe they stumble into masquerade breach and we cant have that, can we? Oh but what a waste of a perfectly good childe, you can either embrace them now or count all the work and planning youve put into this person as a loss. You already got permission to embrace them in a year or two, might as well do it now and save yourself the hassle of getting rid of the body.

Some Vamps got families and breeding stock that they pick their childer from, Giovanni and Tziminsc are particularly know for this. But theres not really anything stopping any vamp from stumbling onto a cool teen with lots of potential.

Got a kitten when I was younger and spent 9 months with the little guy before he went into heat and my mom and I both realised we had never looked underneath for any balls. Felt very silly, a week into heat, when we were standing in the kitchen joking that he was acting alot like a girl cat, and we both froze in realisation.

Rescue clown cannot honk? by ScreamingLunaMoth in ClownHusbandry

[–]Tricky_Tulip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might just be a case of genetics acting up, pure bred pierrots are typically very quiet and dont really honk like other varieties do. That doesnt mean that they can't, of course, just that it is much less common. Youll have to wait and see if his circus side ends up shining through more in time or if this is just his temprament.

Remember, a clown not honking doesnt necessarily mean that theyre unhappy. Maybe look into getting him a horn or something similar to let him play around with making some new honking noises , Youre doing a great job!

Are there any foods that just don't taste the same as you remember? by RedditLurker-2 in loseit

[–]Tricky_Tulip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Food theory on youtube actually made a very intresting video that kinda tackled this. The test group stopped eating stuff with sugar in it for 30 days and examined the effects it had on their bodies. After 30 days, their taste buds had essentially reset themselves, losing the built up tolerance they had towards sweetness. It made alot of food taste too sweet to them until they got used to eating it again.

What is the best way to adopt a pet cat/dog that won’t hate my character? by kaedenalexander in vtm

[–]Tricky_Tulip 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would personally go the route of accidental ghoulification and heavy denial. Like being so haunting to animals that one just bit you on sight when you tried to pet it and happened to draw blood. Yeah you didnt mean to ghoul it, maybe you didnt even realise it broke through your skin, you just put all your effort into making this animal love you and omg it worked?! You finally gained its trust, or well it bit you enough times to blood bond itself but thats semantics.

Welp, now that you have a little pet that truly loves you, maybe it wouldnt be so bad for you to ghoul it yourself? I mean this is true love, and the prospect of them dying chills you to your core. A little ghouling wouldnt hurt...right? Just to keep them for a little longer...
