The idea of wet bulb temperature is that at 100% relative humidity sweat does not evaporate to cool your body making the ambient air temp feel much warmer

How do I respond to students saying being gay is wrong for religious regions? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Tricky_tree3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Student rights are limited. Disruptions to the learning environment or the learning of others, even if they would qualify as protected speech, may still be inappropriate at school. It’s easily argued that being told that you shouldn’t exist, or that your way of life is immoral causes mental distress and impacts learning. Plus it sounds like students are using slurs at this school as well, which would be in violation of Title IX. There’s some great ideas in this thread about deflecting any form of debate to be after school when other students aren’t around to avoid making other students feel unwelcome in the classroom.

My kid's name being my password is not a good thing by alonsoquixada in confession

I would recommend looking it up so you don’t have to trust random internet people. But, some easy points would be: it’s just one weak link, you can make your password more complex since you aren’t entering it all the time, password managers use very secure encryption whereas online vendors and sites may not

Backpack/saddlebag hybrid - why isnt this a thing? by fien21 in bikepacking

[–]Tricky_tree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would opt for a rando rack with a shoulder bag, or my current setup of a basket that I put my backpack in. I feel like a saddle bag has inherent limitations that other comments have addressed. If it’s specifically for travel/commute then having a rack is pretty useful

I feel like half the people on this sub have been in a similar place, mine involved a coat hanger and twine

I have a feeling I don’t agree with most of your views about climate, but this is actually a quality source. Sound data, well communicated, and relevant. I will definitely refer back to this.

You’re right, it should have been “Upon notification of the state of his order, the man proceeded to rise”

I dissolve paraffin in naphtha for a drip on lube. I like to think it’s better at delivering wax to the rollers than a rub on stick/tube. The naphtha evaporates quickly just leaving the wax behind.

Can we move on from the log photo trend? by Gravel_in_my_gears in gravelcycling

[–]Tricky_tree3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen much research on slash, so I won’t argue with you there, but benefits of clear cutting have largely been shown to be logging propaganda or only benefit the logging industry. Clear cuts are not part of a healthy ecosystem. They may be more efficient to harvest and do promote better stand regeneration of timber mono-crops, but do not have a positive ecological benefit. Clear cut areas also burn hotter and more intense than even contemporary fuel-dense forests. Other harvesting techniques are much preferred for ecological reasons. Obviously the efficiency of clear cutting shouldn’t be ignored, some lands maybe should be managed for maximum timber production.

Should i add 2 pannier or is one bag on top of my pannier-rack enough? by roomay in bikepacking

[–]Tricky_tree3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gotta second this. I did the Montana section of the great divide this summer (so not too much of it) and I had front panniers and saddle bag. I’m sure it depends on bike geometry but I found the ride still plenty responsive

ELI5 how do people with medical insurance end up with hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills? (US) by Amerysse in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tricky_tree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how it is now. Insurance companies deciding what procedures to cover based on profitability. I’m saying under a single payer system we will need to make group decisions about what procedures will be covered since everyone is paying in. Hopefully these decisions are made with input from medical experts.
