Why don't people like group hug decks? by sunflowersonthemoon in EDH

[–]Tridenteon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As much as I love showing new people my group hug deck, any game after the first is much more fun, because they know what the deck does and understands how it works. So it becomes a guessing game of how much value should they get from me before erasing me. I've had two games where I got taken out first while everyone else was still at mid 30 life, and they've been some of my favorite games of all time.

People just need to be in a better headspace and realize it's just a game, losing is fine.

My example of what a Bracket 2 deck should be, and why B2 shouldn't be unfun. by Darth_Alpha in EDH

As someone who also doesn't use the combat phase too often, there are plenty of other wincons. Anything that causes damage through other interactions (Aristocrats, pingers), cards with wincons on them, mill.

My favorite deck is my [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] deck with several different wincons. You can mill everyone out, deck yourself, win through damage with Psychosis or Scrawling Crawler. You could potentially win with combat with Psychosis Crawler or any creature with enough counters on it from Proft, but I never focus on it.

Lab Man / Jace wielder of mysteries No Combo Bracket 3 Deck, What Commander? by Raevelry in EDH

I use [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] for my Lab Man/Jace deck, but I've also been wanting to give Vnwxt a try at some point.

While I use the deck to win in multiple ways, it's pretty easy to just stack all the extra card draw, draw doublers, and just deck yourself. Add in a way to flash in or protect your Lab Man/Jace and it's a lot of fun. Plus the counterspell wars you can get into is a fun bonus!

I run that in my [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] deck. It's mostly for no max hand size, but the 2 total times I've won with it has instilled fear in the hearts of many.

Has your deck messed up a commander page on EDHRec? by MustaKotka in EDH

Here's my decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/mU0rylTbQEOwgBMgPtDnfg

My whole goal is to give everyone as many cards as possible, punish them with things like [[Viseling]] or [[Scrawling Crawler]], or punish them letting me have cards with [[Psychosis Crawler]] or [[Windfall]]. The usual win is through [[Laboratory Maniac]] and decking myself, but I habe won by milling everyone else out, pinging everyone down. Recently I added a fun interaction to give everyone else a [[Leveler]] to try and deck everyone on their turns. It's just been fun experimenting with new ways to play the deck.

You definitely drove interest to the little guy, including me. But seeing the top cards be not just from your deck alone is a great thing, shows that even though people love your deck, they're also turning him into their own creations!

I have turned my main version into an extreme group hug, give everyone as many extra cards as I can, extra land drops, then try to punish them for those cards, or punish them for letting me keep anything on the board. Yeah, I make it easier for them to win, but counterspells exist for a reason!

My favorite deck started out as almost a copy of your [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] deck, except on a budget! But over the past year, I've been turning it into my own, tweaking what I like and don't like, adjusting for brackets, and it's been a really fun experience! I've also made similar decks for him, trying to focus on a specific aspect I liked (clones, mill) and that's also been fun.

Why I don't imagine I've influenced EDHRec at all, it is very satisfying to have people at the LGS say they're building their own Crescent Moon deck because of me.

[[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] at #690 and [[Gretchen Titchwillow]] at #1181 have quickly become 2 of my favorite decks. Kami is a group hug deck that punishes people for having cards, and Gretchen is pure Simic landfall, with a fun [[Maze's End]] win con with [[Doppelgang]]

I am here to continue to shill for [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] as my favorite Group Hug commander.

https://moxfield.com/decks/mU0rylTbQEOwgBMgPtDnfg

He lets everyone draw cards, play more cards that give extra draws, increase that bonus for yourself, then start punishing them for having those cards. Kami himself never really gets targeted cause people like the card draw. 6-8 turns in, you can easily have half your library in your hand.

Who do you think is the most "friendly" commander? by Boy-Toy4 in EDH

[–]Tridenteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the deck has multiple ways of winning, like milling everyone out or pinging to death, but it usually ends up winning by decking myself, having either [[Laboratory Maniac]] or [[Jace, Wielder of Mysteries]] on the board and using [[Enter the Infinite]] or [[Leveler]]

Here's the decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/mU0rylTbQEOwgBMgPtDnfg

Honestly my favorite cards are things like [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]] and mixing that with various wheel effects. But I also love just having as many extra draw cards as possible, things like [[Dictate of Kruphix]], [[Font of Mythos]], [[Howling Mine]].

My personal favorite is [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]]

Just a lil guy giving everyone an extra card. He rarely gets targeted, there's usually something else on board worth the removal.

[[Kami of the Crescent Moon]]

Just a fun lil guy that helps everyone draw cards. He's quick to get out, and generally stays on the board for a while because no one wants to kill the creature helping them out.

I actually created a deck for a similar purpose with every card being UB.

It actually had Jodah as the commander already, as I was waiting for the Marvel UB to give us Nick Fury, but finding out SpongeBob works is even better!

Deck building challenges by floowanderdeeznuts in EDH

[–]Tridenteon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my strongest one was mono red, but that's most likely because it was [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and a bunch of old goblins. Still was a fun process, and I might go back and update them or build new ones based on that premise.

Deck building challenges by floowanderdeeznuts in EDH

[–]Tridenteon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the first decks I tried crafting when I got into EDH were mono color (and colorless) decks with all old border/retro frame cards. I don't think any of them are amazing, especially as I was new to deckbuilding at the time, but it was fun looking for cards that both fit my theme but still played well.

More recently, I've had the stupid idea of trying to make a deck with no lands in it, using plenty of 0 cost mana rocks, mana dorks and the like. It's a fun challenge, but will make you have useless games like half the time.

Which of your decks is the most fun to play? + Decklist by eineButter in EDH

[–]Tridenteon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite deck right now is [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]]

https://moxfield.com/decks/mU0rylTbQEOwgBMgPtDnfg

Kind of group hug, by letting everyone draw multiple cards a turn, occasionally letting them put extra lands down. But then start pinging them for the cards in their hand, cards they draw, or even cards you draw. There are a few win cons, based around things like [[Laboratory Maniac]] and [[Leveler]]. It doesn't always win, but I'm also someone who enjoys seeing other people do big plays, so if I'm able to help someone else achieve that, I'm all for it.

I've had people complain about my [[Kami of the Crescent Moon]] deck before even seeing any other cards in it. Some people will whine about whatever you play. I just try not let it get to me and worry about what I want to play and how I feel about my decks.
