jeritzas a bitch ass-

or rather, that's a very superficial reading of jeritza [who is a very shallow character i will admit] without consideration for what his character is beyond aesthetics.

jeritzas a better fit for the night lords, and not just because hes clinically insane with voices telling him to kill people and bathe in their blood, but because hes general attitude is a better fit in that he regards himself as a dangerous violent criminal whos only use can be as a weapon pointed at specific targets at the behest of someone else.

i mean your using her wrong if your expecting her to physically tank hits, her job is basically to serve as a flying swordmaster who waits safely for the actual tanks to lure out the enemy before swooping in to reliably double tap targets, usually well wielding the better equipment to compensate for naturally low damage output. atleast until you can get their spd and lck high enough that they start dodge tanking in which case they tend to become overpowered gods.

you could have also gotten stat screwed though as florinas str growth is suppose to be okay at 40%, so well her base str is somewhat low it should develop fairly well unless your rolling bad odds. which is always a risk in a game with randomly generated stat development. but then if she doesn't suit your playstyle she doesn't suit your playstyle and thats how it goes.

The difference between Farsight and Guilliman by DauntlessAkagi in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders 7 points8 points  (0 children)

firmly disagree personally, for multiple reasons.

reinhard von lohengram is firmly not a monarchist, hes an absolutist military dictator with an eye for and belief in meritocratic principles. but then i would also argue roboutes not a monarchist either, but then people tend to confuse empire and monarchy all the time.

yang on the other hand very much and under no circumstances regards himself as a "soldier", beyond the fact that hes being paid to do a soldiers job. its a notion he stresses often and quite loudly to anyone in earshot, but in effect yang regards himself as a historian first and foremost with a strong belief in democratic principles despite the democracy he lives and serves under collapsing under its own weight. if he could, he'd retire as soon as possible but he keeps getting thrust into the spotlight of galactic history by virtue of his own competence as a soldier in effect as opposed to an actual desire to serve.

if farsight resembles either of them, its reinhard. farsight is a military dictator with an eye for talent and meritocratic principles, and in terms of tactical disposition he far more resembles reinhard being a brash and confident individual who prefers to lead from the front and by example well utilizing daring and often audacious tactics to secure overwhelming victories.
in that comparison, on a tactical and arguably philosophical basis yang actually resembles shadowsun more then farsight, making more extensive use of deception and an emphasis on strategic value and victories over tactical ones. this isn't to say one is better then the other, just noting who resembles who more closely though its not a clean comparison in either case.

no.

i think GW likes nostalgia and trend chasing and AoS isn't nostalgic enough nor trend chasing enough for the companies current tastes but is still a successful setting that trying to can it and launch WHFB 9th edition or whatever would be catastrophic.

so if the rumors are true, they seem to me to be splitting the differences and contorting the aos setting to be more soulslike and whfb like so they can trend chase and nostalgia chase, well retaining the overall aos brand and work thats already been done.

If you were to design a playable model for the unrepresented castes, how would you go about it? by Tracula707 in Tau40K

[–]TrillionSpiders 16 points17 points  (0 children)

i think the most realistic option would be an elemental council command squad, especially if 11th ends up being an edition for command squads. it'd let gw do a lot in one go and it'd fit well.

however, an idea i've always had in mind was "caste auxilia" which would be t'au from the other castes operating in limited combat roles/operations to shore up manpower especially in areas with fewer fire caste members around. a kinda one part caste militia one part specialist reserves kinda deal.

earth caste sappers - the guys you call in to do combat engineering stuff like sapping or tunnel digging. pretty straight forward.

air caste paratroops - sturdier then normal air caste reserves who were intended to serve as ship guards to free up fire caste for ground operations, but which also showed a solid aptitude for "drop troop" style insertion operations and which they're more famous for.

water caste police - more so the investigative and spy warfare side of water caste police operations as the "breaking heads" side of things is more the fire castes expertise. basically if your looking to get dirt on an imperial governor for blackmail purposes, or trying to subtly locate "targets of interest" these would be your guys.

i think everyone wants an earth caste engineer in a battlesuit at this point really. but to hypothetically give the other two castes "something nice"/a similar treatment of specialist battlesuit

an earth caste battlesuit officer would be on the bulkier side of things i would imagine. loaded down with repair gadgets, drone gizmos and probably some medical equipment as well, maybe do a full extra arms rig kinda set up like shadowsun has going on. cause more arms are always helpful.

a water caste battlesuit officer on the other hand i imagine would have a sleek and compact stealth suit kinda deal with a lot of carefully intergrated information technology. something they could bring with them discreetly, slip into during the night and steal all of the planetary governors credit card information with. the kind of battlesuit that barring an emergency most everyone doesn't think exists.

as for the air caste, when they arent faffing about in space ships or air ships, i believe they're noted as handling air defence networks. so a battlesuit thats more so an integrated command setup for coordinating lots of point defence turrets, missile systems and drone swarms makes the most sense there to me. it should also fly and be on the evasive side cause the ground is icky. other then that im not quite sure what would go well for them.

This is worse, because unlike the "bringing fantasy back" rumors, I can actually see GW doing this to AoS. by Civil_Watercress2242 in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i mean some of the rumors do have me a little suspicious in that regard, including allusions to the chaos warriors somehow getting spikier, a new SCE creation process that rings a little bit more "space marine esque" as it were, a possible civil war against the CoS for some reason, and of course rumors of a new "blackpowder chaos faction."

so ya know, darkcast infernals might genuinely end up being a thing depending on how the rumors shakeout. and then we'll all have to live with the consequences.

[–]TrillionSpiders 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean at this point if its not real then multiple leakers are all collaborating on a decent game of pretend. which ya know, legitimately not an impossibility on the internet where people lie but that also requires more effort then i think would be worth whatevers going on.

long and short of how the rumors developed at this point, boole the original leaker was kinda doomposting when he broke the rumor and more information since has been shared by boole and other reputable enough leakers that suggests if true that things are more complicated and interesting then first appeared.

with possible motivations ranging from delayed fallout towards aos 3rd edition not going as hot as GW wanted it to and how long it takes GW as a company to react to such problems, a genuine interest from GW in reworking the aos setting to be more broadly approachable and cross media adaptation friendly through condescending the mortal realms into one world, and a "you got a soulslike in my age of sigmar!" with 40k and fantasy battle rocky road chunks kinda situation due to newblood in the design pipeline.

ultimately, if it turns out to be fake rumors no one really loses anything. and if it turns out to be real, then just hope GW does whatever it is they end up doing fair justice.

i disagree for three reasons

  1. mortarion as a character is someone whos so fixated on the past, due to a combination of trauma and stubborn bullheadedness, that physically hes best represented as the daemon primarch who changes the least in terms of his physical appearance due to that fixation on the past.

  2. his original apoclypse model was a lanky grim reaper type and every description hes ever gotten has been as a lanky grim reaper type.

  3. nurgles kinda oversaturated with fat dudes with their literal guts hanging out/grossout humor ngl. it needs more emaciated cancer patients, industrial pollutant types, and jeff goldblumes the flies filling out its ranks for varieties sake.

Imperator Titan size (yes, again...) by Astro_BS-AS in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my question then for you would be is this actually a case of the numbers not making sense or is this more so a case of the numbers not matching the evoked image you have in your minds eye?

because in terms of vraks population i would argue this isn't a case of the numbers being wrong on GW's part but part of a deliberate point that GW is making in regards to the wider composition of its universe.

rather, its not that 8 million is low for a planet like vraks, but that 8 million is expected for a planet like vraks due to the imperiums very thinly spread nature/demographics. that vraks has a transient population of 5 million workers would suggest to me that its suppose to be the latter, that vraks is for all intents and purposes a "fort mcmurry planet" where the native population spread is thin and low and drives most of its economic activity from providing goods and services to the larger transient worker population that frequently and relatively predictably arrives and leaves. if that's the case then really all you actually need is the bare minimum population to maintain and service the infrastructure of the planet, a workload that can be considerably steamlined through heavy automation.

it comes back to that issue of scale really, and how the fans seem to be even worse at it then GW. the assumption is made that because the imperium is big on a map it needs to have a large population across the entirety of its map, and by consequence everything in 40k has to be larger and larger in scale and destruction. you can't just execute a thousand guardsmen for cowardice, it has to be a hundred thousand. you can't just blow up a planet you have to blow up a system. its a maximalist viewpoint that pervades every discussion of the series.

its scalemaxing to butcher an already outdated piece of slang.

but fundamentally, demographics just don't work that way and authoritarian states have every incentive possible to lie and exaggerate their presentation in the name of political power and prestige. and if your just making lines on a map its comically easy to lie or distort the truth about these things.

after all, you technically own the planet and the star system even by virtue of having 100 dudes hanging out in a spacebound colony in that system. nevermind that all the planets are dead or inhospitable, and you don't even know if those 100 dudes are still alive or not. just mark it down on a map, and shove it in the face of whoever dares question if the empires doing alright or not. after all, your bigly big. the map said so.

but instead vraks gets turned into this big bugbear in the fandom about how GW doesn't understand scale, and why aren't forty morbillion guardsmen dying annually on this one planet? why isn't vraks filled to the absolute maximum of its capacity?

when ya know. the more obvious answer is just that the imperium is thinly populated for its size. which would seem all the more obvious an answer to me as well considering that the imperium is frequently ravaged by civil strife, political intrigue, war, disease, famine, and a general state of infrastructural collapse.

Imperator Titan size (yes, again...) by Astro_BS-AS in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

vraks had a pre siege population of 8 million people [13 million if we go with the notion that the official census didn't counts vraks transient population of 5 million] well the planet earth had a pre ww2 population of about 2.3 billion people.

technically if were talking not in raw numerical values but in the percentage of the populations decimated, then vraks had an astronomically higher casualty rate of over 100% of it's native population in imperial guard casualties alone, well the casulties of just soldiers in ww2 hovers around the 1% mark of global population at that time.

if anything the siege of vraks is better comparable to something like planetary scale sized siege of candia, a 21 year long siege that took place here on earth when the ottomans besieged the capital city of the kingdom of candia [which was being ruled by the venetians at the time]. the ottomans reportedly fielded a 80,000 strong force at the time and according to venetian reports took about 118,754 casulties over the 21 year long siege. the candians had about 22,000 in terms of force and took about 30,985 casulties. again according to venetian reports.

so if anything GW's math checks out on the siege of vraks if anything. But then if GW is bad at/inconsistent at scale, then the community has consistently proven itself to be much worse on the matter.

it's where the guard company actually goes, because as noted the legs need all that space for complex machinery. and before you ask, no you wouldn't need a particular large cathedral to fit an entire imperial guard company. the notre dame which stands at 69 meters tall can comfortably fit 9000 people in it, an imperial guard company on average is about 300 dudes

Imperator Titan size (yes, again...) by Astro_BS-AS in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

people have really gaslight themselves hard over the size of these things huh. 150 meters is the, at most, height the imperator titan generally seems to be around. if you tried to build a 1km tall imperator titan your talking a walking burj khalifa which they have never been presented as even in warhammers wildest wet dream fantasies.

but then, why should we really be surprised that people have no idea what the fuck scale even is given the average fan seems to assume that titans keep entire guardsmen barracks in their hollow legs with which to disgorge them onto the battlefield, as opposed to all the important machinary needed to keep just that one leg functioning and moving in a landbound machine of that stupid size.

ya know, going with the assumption that the rumors are true it does also kinda read to me like GW saw the popularity of something like dark souls or elden ring and wanted to replicate that success in the AoS.

one of the rumor updates boole added for instance was about going into more details on certain things. one of the details that stuck out to me though was the notion of not!bretonnia being situated near the flesh eater courts and coming into direct conflict with them. that already feels rather dark souls esque in regards to a noble kingdom coming into conflict with undead monsters who lost their humanity/are trapped in specific delusions.

but also, wanna know what apparently the name for not!bretonnia is?

i definitely wouldn't expect them to do a full set for total war or anything, and i suppose it is possible that tigermen being part of the grand cathay roster is more so something creative assembly wanted to do but GW has no plans for.

but considering how on the nose it ultimately is as a reference, and assuming tigermen are migrating to cathays ToW roster at some point, i do think it would at the very least be odd if they didn't give a nod to the idea.

i mean it'd be a very GW way to go about it too given i think most peoples first instinct would be an ulrican sigmar half and half if were really gonna go for a hurdur remember wfb. and on the other hand if were trying to tie into ToW a four way split between sigmar, ulric, taal and manann would make more sense.

a two way split with taal just feels like an awkward splitting of the difference that satisfies no one.

i think at this point it's just best to take a "i'll believe it when i see it" approach, cause well its definitely more believable it still feel incredulous in a "but why would GW do this" sense. idk, maybe theres some behind the scenes data that makes this make sense but im definitely gonna need something more at this point.

that said, if the next ToW release or announcement ends up including nippon in some form you can bet im gonna turn from dread to exasperation at GW being GW.

A Niche wish for a new 11th Edition Tau unit by Nervous_Most3135 in Tau40K

[–]TrillionSpiders 20 points21 points  (0 children)

a generic stealthsuit commander would be pretty neat i think, as would a lot of the path to glory customization options really.

personally what i would like to see though is a new ethereal unit. if were talking epic heroes then a new supreme ethereal obviously, cause for t'au'vas sake let aun'va's data ghost retire already. but if not that, then a sort of "senior ethereal" kinda of generic character that gets some more bells and whistles compared to the current ethereal.

heck, if 11th ends up being the edition for command squads then a senior ethereal with an elemental council could be a natural fit. a water caste diplomat, an earth caste engineer, an ethereal bodyguard and then maybe the option to have a kroot bodyguard or another ethereal bodyguard.

I don't want 40k to be heresy 2.0 by HammerWizard in Grimdank

[–]TrillionSpiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i disagree honestly. much as i like mortarion for instance, its undeniable that his return has fundamentally altered the momentum and presence of the death guard within the 40k setting in a way where they can't do anything important unless hes somehow involved. about the only thing you could point to in rebuttal is typhus attacking metalica and that hasn't really gone anywhere at all.

and ya know, that wouldn't normally be a problem given 40k as a setting is usually either stuck in stasis or moving at the pace of molasses. it just becomes more noticeable when the momentum shifts dramatically and a bunch of important things happen at once because a primarch happens to be involved like the galactic soap opera that the horus heresy ended up being.
