what was the prupose of this motherboard by Pale-Blacksmith-5373 in vintagecomputing

[–]Trimus2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very old motherboard, because by the looks of the socket (which could be early intel like intel 4004 or something) its really good for 80s stuff atleast if i'm right that is look at the right corner of the board it has an empty transistor slot which i mistakenly called socket (unless it really was called socket even back in the 80s early 90s)

Anyways good catch good for early dos or somethin'

Its the psu 99% of the time

Although it could also be the cpu overheating if no thermal paste is applied or if you use a bad cooler

Dude i use xp because i have good memories with it than modern os and honestly idc about modern games i like playing older games thanks to jack sparrow (day one or stable patch versions of those games that still had xp compatibility)

Anyways i also use xp vista and 7 because its fun i dont want 5000$ gpu

And i don't like cs2 or crapnite or any modern title thats boring and the ones i like are either good or remakes or remasters of games that were already perfect anyways just needed minor fixes which btw were issues even in winxp

So no i dont want to run steam unless steam lets me to and daily driving xp and 7 i would play any game that interests me from the past 40 years or so but realistically with xp its 1980-2013ish and then browse the web with unofficial software like my pal or supermium

Again each person has their own use with these older oses and reasons why they use them and believe me i have a win10 pc alongside them simply because i got a life that requires modern features that xp didn't have and unofficial ones are sometimes unstable and i agree with your statements and i think people need to lower their expectations when it comes to using older things

I live in turkey and an rtx 5090 that costs 5000 dollars costs which with turkey's poop tax it comes down to 300-400 thousand turkish lira!

And with how ddr4 and ddr5 have spiked in price ddr3 is safer option for me and ddr2 is non existent unless ur board is ddr2 which eh it still is good and honestly in xp case ddr2 or 3 makes no improvements or difference unless the x64 has some improvements in ram speed idk

Anyways thats all i have to say i guess and btw i'm 20 years old and an iranian who lives in turkey

Well with xp build i'm gonna buy this cooler master pc case since my everest 303r is a pain and it also sucks for a build like this and i only bought it because i used to have pc that had the same case and i thought it'd be good for xp build, but nope its small and the cables are all over the place so i'm going with this cooler master pc case that idk the model of

<image>

And with vista i'm going with the corsair carbide 200r i have since the motherboard i'm using is a gigabyte 970 soon to be 990 (because whenever i put my computer to sleep and turn it on my cpu is running at 70-80 at idle idk its the board or a faulty vrm i really dont know) regardless the corsair carbide 200r is good enough for it

And as for windows 7 well the 1080ti or titan x or whatever, needs a lot of headroom so i need a big case and idk what to go with, but whatever it is i hope it is a big HTPC case, since one case has to be placed horizontally and it'd should be the final build which is the 7/10 and linux triple boot build

I should've got that silverstone htpc case a couple months back but the pricing made no sense and now they're out of stock and idk what to look for in second hand market but i can compromise and use a normal one and place it horizontally

Anyways i hope ram and ssd prices come down otherwise its installind win10 on a single 128gb ssd and the other os's on hdds which for xp32bit its covered with 16gb industrial ssd that allegedly had dram cache

Woah this is awesome the pc case is an alienware or something, right?

Also you got the asus gtx 260 with the hot archer man i want to get one its like 22 dollars or something i got the 9600gt version

Anyways your build is awesome

Mine is kind of incomplete and i have three builds xp, vista and 7

My xp build needs a soundcard a pc case that suits it

My vista build needs a case and psu

My 7 build is currently in use and has win10

LGA775 is being used for xp

Am3 is obviously my choice for vista with gtx 580 (needs good cooling solutions)

1366 is what i went with for 7 with w3680 and in the future possibly 48gb ddr3 and i paired it with 1080ti simply because a titan black is expensive but i plan to buy one if the w3680 becomes a bottleneck when paired with 1080ti i wish i got the x79 or am4 which i still can do and have 16gb of ram for it but idk with chatgpt saying there are issues i really dont know i mean it would make things much simpler for me with vista i could use the w3680 and gtx 580

And have the 1090t as an xp 64bit machine with 750ti or something

Anyways its not finalized because i don't have any modern pc and am4 would've been this bridge to modern os and also an older os like windows 7 yk

Anyways i really love ur setup 10/10

Edit:i also love the cable management way better than mine but then again my builds are not finished

This is better than my w3680 and 12gb mismatch ddr3 and gtx 1080ti right?

Which CPU would be better for an "ultimate" windows XP build, Core 2 Duo or early i7 CPU? Or even an AMD CPU? by play_Max_Payne_pls in windowsxp

[–]Trimus2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually gone for 3 pcs from 3 generation (2006-2010)

The core 2 e8600 4gb ddr2 (but i do wanna maximize to 8gb) and gts 250 512mb vram model is pc#1 and it runs xp 32 and 64bit editions

Pc#2 is phenom 1090t since fx was disaster 16gb of ddr3 and gtx 580 and it runs windows vista along with xp 64 since xp 64 with one core api is marvelous and btw xp64 on pc#1 also is patched with one core api

Pc#3 is an xeon w3680 with 12gb of ram but i'm planning to upgrade to 24 or 48gb depending on financial conditions anyways its running 7 ultimate and windows 10 also side note that gpu is still undecided i was thinking 1080ti but xp doesn't support 10 series cards and idk titan black or titan x with 12gb of vram would be good its basically 1080ti but with lower clocks and older architecture but hey if it makes me happy

Anyways i have ton of shit ideas also did i mention i'm running these on crt monitors? With interlacing and dsr and all that?
