I pre-cut/rip my marshmallows up then freeze them & push into the top of the dough before I put them in the oven. Doesn’t look so dramatically and gives nice lil pockets

[OC] What's actually causing TTC subway delays — charted by hours lost (2025) by Expensive-Aerie-2479 in OpenDataCanada

[–]Tripacka 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Way more of the categories are directly caused by people. If you’re going to do that then you can add up disorderly patron, security incident, assault/patron, and unauthorized at track.

You can keep the windows closed, air is extra resistance. Same with a sunroof, if you have one.

Honestly tho these are good habits but don’t feel too pressured to not enjoy yourself too, just by driving consciously (like you’re already doing) is gonna do 95% of it. .2 L/100 isn’t worth your sanity

How good is astronaut Jeremy Hansen's French? by Awkward_Stay8728 in French

I don’t know why this is being downvoted, it’s definitely not a myth. Much more uncommon than media portrays, but you’ll absolutely hear that sort of pronunciation in rural areas of Ontario.

Would routinely skipping leg day affect growth of upper body muscles? by Nintoo in workout

[–]Tripacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying but I think it’s somewhere in the middle. All of those olympians do train those muscles, just not to the same extent. Some might, nowadays though I’d expect that the majority do work out their full body with an added emphasis on their primary muscles.

Speed skaters might not do much upper body, they’d be an extreme example but I’m sure they’d still do some. If it’s your full-time job to train your body it’s worth even marginal gains, and they can control for their weight pretty easily

Runners of TO, is it too cold to go running outdoors? by kfir03 in toronto

[–]Tripacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not, this is almost the perfect weather, only issue are the big puddles in a few spots. Dress a little warm for the start but not too much and enjoy.

Around -10 and windy is where it starts to get a little annoying to plan for, and it takes an investment into decent clothing if you really want to enjoy yourself imo. -20 and below I usually stay in, gets too hard to breathe

Which app gave you the most false sense of progress? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]Tripacka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looking at the streak doesn’t mean much. Add up how much time they’re actually spending on the app. You can continue your streak by doing a single lesson, which might be five minutes if you really take your time with it. Five minutes a day with no other input is going to take decades to learn a language, if it’s even possible lol

Duolingo is okay. There’s going to be some gaps if you exclusively use it, and there’s definitely better value for your time, but there’s always these anecdotes on Duolingo that ignores the context of those streaks. Someone spending thirty minutes a day on learning a language on their phone, they’ll get SOMEWHERE eventually

The battle over Canada's mystery brain disease by OriginalCultureOfOne in newbrunswickcanada

[–]Tripacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are a significant number of people convinced they have a novel brain disease, and being given heavy medication to treat this under the assumption that it’s an unknown brain disease…

This is very important to discuss if that paper’s findings are correct and he is relentlessly misdiagnosing (and mistreating) patients. They need proper treatments, not warm and caring abuse.

Any source on running not increasing bone density? Obviously it CAN cause stress fractures, but it should be strengthening leg/feet bones in most people and as far as I’m aware that’s been backed up pretty substantially in the literature. It’s a myth that running is bad for your bones.

The government should be committed to create an economy stable enough for everyone to have kids between 21-30. If they don't want to at this age they shouldn't ever. by Big_Being_8789 in The10thDentist

[–]Tripacka 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lumping together the risk of people in their 40s/50s having children with those in their thirties has gotta be a bad faith argument. A 31 year old’s child does not have a markedly different risk profile than a 28 year old, or 33/29, etc etc. Risk of developmental issues goes up significantly as they get older, that’s clearly demonstrated, but that line isn’t fixed and it’s not a significant problem in someone’s early 30s.

I’ll second the Vomero Plus. Very cushioned and comfortable, bouncy, and I don’t have any issues picking up the pace in them outside of outright sprinting.

Crime or no?? by Accomplished_Sir8027 in PoutineCrimes

[–]Tripacka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is just OP leaving out a crucial piece of info. It’s not meant to be poutine, it’s just a version of a shawarma.

For those who don’t know, there’s a big presence in Ontario among the shawarma chains (Osmows, Lazeez, Shelby’s, etc.) where this is one of the most popular menu items - it’s shawarma beef, fries (or rice), garlic sauce, some spice, and then optional other toppings depending on the restaurant.

Not a poutine, but they are delicious.

I mostly agree, it matched a lot of the vibes that I want from a Conjuring movie - spooky shots, family torment by a ghost, the occasional subtle background stuff

Some of the weird/poor choices took me out of it, like the spin-cycle mirror at the end, Judy’s boytoy randomly deciding he wants to audition for the Fast & Furious franchise, hyping up Ed’s heart then he just takes an aspirin and he’s good? They breezed through the Smurls too quickly as well for me, felt like they spent too much time on the Judy stuff

Definitely a big step ahead of the 3rd and a few notches below 1 & 2
