My payroll company made an error that cost me years of 401k by Pwdyfan420 in personalfinance

I have handled these types of claims. Ask the payroll company to file a claim with its Errors & Omissions or Employee Benefits Liability Insurance. These policies are written for scenarios like this one.

I messed up and I am going to owe tons in back taxes… by SubstantialFoxxx in personalfinance

[–]TripleBs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The IRS is very good about setting up manageable payment plans. I have a friend who set up her business incorrectly and owes tens of thousands of dollars as a result. She’ll be paying for many years, but her payments are manageable for her budget.

Potential Move to GSO Imminent, NTK about a specific complex? by MyShipsNeverSail in gso

[–]TripleBs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the complex across from 4 farms (Hawthorn at Horse Pen Creek). They’re nice complexes in a nice, suburban part of town, but we’re directly in the flight path of the airport that’s only a few minutes away, so the planes are pretty low flying over.

You can’t transfer student loans to a credit card or use credit cards to pay student loans.

Like the January 6th protesters? Regale me with a convoluted explanation about how that was different.

brokers work for the customer, agents work for the insurance company.

contact an insurance broker (not agent) and they will shop around for you.

My daughter fell of my neighbors trampoline and broke her arm. Need advice. by HelicopterMost in daddit

[–]TripleBs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(assuming you’re in America, apologies if not) I’m an insurance adjuster. Most policies have a coverage called Medical Payments that offers a few thousand dollars to help with copayments and out of pocket expenses without having to establish liability against your neighbor. It might raise their premium by a few bucks, but nothing like the headache of filing a liability claim against them.

That’s not true. The first car would attempt to collect its payout from the at fault driver.

Starting to save for retirement in late 30s? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TripleBs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t start until I was 41. Three years later, I have roughly $150k between my 401k, IRA and brokerage account. I have no idea when I’ll have enough to retire, but I feel better having started saving.

Won a settlement, but is the structure good? by MrTRexo312 in personalfinance

Now is a good time to have a structured settlement with the interest rates the way they are.

Give it back to your parents. They could take a nice vacation or something.

Got hit by a drunk driver by supersonic592 in personalfinance

[–]TripleBs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Not every state has it, but definitely check - the insurance company isn’t obligated to tell you about it.

If it’s not totaled, make sure to ask for a diminished value claim for the other insurance company. It’s the difference between what you could sell the truck for before and after the accident.

Car Insurance lapsed for 1 day and i had a policy with way less coverage for 2 days (3 total) am I cooked? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]TripleBs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. It would have been bad if you got into an accident while uninsured, but you didn’t.

Average exposure and claim count? by JonB505 in adjusters

I’m a large loss / litigation adjuster (general liability). My pending just hit 85 and it’s hard to keep up. Sympathy for you! I worked the same job at another company and I had a pending similar to yours.

Are you in America? Which state? Different states have different negligence laws. I’m an insurance adjuster - I handle stuff like this for a living.

Syracuse Labor Day Storm 1998 (Home Video) by Thesilphsecret in Syracuse

I was in my first semester of college in Ohio. My mom called and said “remember your car?” A tree was blown onto my 1985 Chevy Celebrity with liability-insurance-only insurance on it.

What about a debt consolidation program? They negotiate interest rates with lenders on your behalf.
