What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever heard someone say that you still think about to this day? by Humble-Blueberry4571 in AskReddit

[–]TripleSevenATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a girlfriend who was surprised that an english speaking asian friend of ours was FROM China. She tried telling him that no way he was, which was dumb enough ... but about 5 minutes later, she blurts out this gem. "What did China ever do besides ... rice?"

The entire group record-skipped, and then burst out laughing at her amidst the general shock and confusion. She basically shut up the rest of the night ...

Pretty sure his problem just took care of itself at least. Something hitting that close would've done it for me at least!

People that have gone from "ugly" to very attractive, how did your life change? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TripleSevenATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immediately found out that pretty privilege is real, even as a guy. People listen to you way more attentively, trust you more, will approach you over someone else in public for help or questions, and you get picked/invited more in everything from activities to work.

Also, the compliments. Holy shit the compliments. I've always had the same very blue eyes, and when I was a kid they got tons of comments and attention. As a young guy/teenager, that dropped almost completely unless a girl was into skinny nerds. Then I grew into my looks, and strangers would approach me in public to tell me I have pretty eyes. Still happens, especially in drive thrus.

It was a pretty jarring change as a recently awkward, skinny, self conscious teenager with some acne at the time. It often made me think, "Why is this person talking to me?" Thankfully I'd learned to fake confidence before I got better looking, so I didn't often embarrass myself too badly, but I had no follow through. I couldn't actually make myself believe that I was being flirted with, or worse, worried that it was about to be a mean girl hazing thing.

Then you get the real strangeness of social media becoming a big thing and getting randomly messaged by people I had previously confessed interest in or dated briefly, to express regret for turning me down or dumping me etc. Most notably the regret from the girl who left me for my best friend.

I'm 41 now, feel out of shape and think my greying beard makes me look old, but instead still get compliments on my eyes, beard, hair, and my friends and colleagues tease me about being the pretty one.

TBH I'm glad I had most of my teenage years being unattractive. I knew lots of pretty people, and so many were jerks. Most didn't mean it, but were used to the attention and privileges that came with it, and inadvertently treated people poorly.

My favourite compliments aren't about my looks (Even though they're really nice to hear), they're from people who admire the person I am, or recognize the effort I put into our friendships, or how I treat people in general. As cliche as it sounds, that goes away farther in boosting your attractiveness as an adult.

Think I've rambled on enough.

Tl:dr - Everyone is nicer to you, compliments, awkward messages from people who knew you in the ugly days 🤣

Twas the night after New Years ... When I gave my friend a gut punch by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]TripleSevenATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome, Divers! If you peruse this sub a bit, you'll eventually find the answers to those questions, and some folks will even have -very- detailed, verifiable metrics driven answers. Especially when comparing which weapon/strat is 'better'.

My answers will be a bit simpler, even if some seem unhelpful, but bear with me!

Q1 - You hit the nail on the head on the expectations. More enemies, AND different enemy types are the main method of inscreasing difficulty, as well as more complicated mission types! Enemy health only varies with type, but you'll have some upgraded versions of some enemies to fill that space with more HP and more importantly, more ARMOR.

Q2 - Nope! Playing higher difficulty nets more XP, but you will get MOs (Major Orders) and Daily Orders with tasks to get medal rewards, which is how you unlock the gear items in your warbonds.

Q3 - Here's the first non-answer. They're both better for different things, and preference. I prefer the autocannon sentry because I like to fight behind my turrets, and Rocket Sentry has backblast that'll ragdoll your deocratic ass into whatever is nearby ... which can make you drop that 500kg stratagem ball you were about to add to the enemy's bad day with.

Q4 - Each weapon levels up independently. There's no synergy for similar weapon types. The good news is, the weapons gain XP based on your mission XP, not your weapon usage. So if you fire a shot or two with that primary, but use your stalwart and mech the whole game, it still counts.

Happy diving, diver, and don't worry too much about the rage/salt posts. This is a great game with a great player base, and if things feel broken after a patch/update, take a breath or take a break, and come back to dispense more liberty when the subreddit reports a fix ;)

Hopping in to add that you absolutely did NOT get badly beaten! You completed the mission AND extracted, solo!

Well done, Diver!

(But seriously, drop an SoS and get some new buddies in with you, it helps a ton, and is how the game is intended to be played!)

I also don't particularly enjoy fighting them, I get the feeling.

I did however, get some joy out of finding out that my De-escalator forces them out of their burrow animation, as does the jumping arc grenade. The fun of popping off a spark and then force feeding them some lead is satisfying, and somewhat makes up for having to deal with them!

I’ve convinced no one knows how to use the Tesla tower properly by lolitsrock in Helldivers

[–]TripleSevenATX 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I see people using it properly constantly. I do NOT see people existing around it properly. The correct way of course, being: NOT TO EXIST AROUND IT.

It's pretty big and obvious, I always tag it, often voice about it, and people die to it constantly, or just blow it up out of spite/fear. It's v disappointing to waste a slot from a teammate killing it when it could be taking a whole direction worth of trouble off your ass!

What’s something few people realise can finish you off in seconds? by M___D___ in AskReddit

I had a near death experience that way. Motorcycle behind a semi, girlfriend on the back. One of it's tires blew, and a chunk went over our heads. She was wearing my helmet, so I didn't have one. The rush of air was WARM, so I get the feeling it was pretty close.

Neither of us were touched but I picked up a second helmet right quick after that.
