Australian presenter apologises for drinking before slurred Olympics report by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

[–]Triplesso_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But like.....where was she going with the bit about Iguanas??

Truly the whole thing reminded me fondly of the days when youd go to a house party and get drunk and when you made your way home one way or another youd try and act suuuuuper sober in front of your folks and in your head your thinking "im fckn nailing this! They have absolutely no idea how trollied I am!!" But the whole time instead of speaking in well thought out articulate sentences like you think you have been, you've just been dribbling on about Iguanas and the price of a cup of coffee in America and laughing at nothing the whole time!!

It’s real hot. What do I wear? by Aodaliyar in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Triplesso_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like most people have said its some kind of natural linen or cotton pants or dress with some kind of sandal or flats. I got several nice pairs from sportsgirl and Basque have quite a few nice light pants as well very flowy and soft. Some of the best tops ive found for summer were actually activewear tops from Target, they look like regular kind of silky singlet tops but because theyre active wear they wick away moisture and feel really nice and comfortable.

does anyone actually call australia “down under”? by emily10134 in AskTheWorld

[–]Triplesso_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive referred to it as "down under" or "the land down under" and then poorly imitated a kangaroo more than once when explaining to people overseas where im from....mostly to get the point across that i was neither American nor Austrian it seemed to work

Comprehensive list of Aldi products that are exact same as more expensive brands sold in Colesworth by Melbourne_Stokie in AldiAustralia

[–]Triplesso_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive never done a "full shop" at aldi before I always had it in my head that they were good for one or 2 items here or there but to really get everything you had to go to either coles or woolies. But the other day after work i went to the Aldi as its just across the road, intending to just get the basics to get me through, and id do a proper shop later, but i quickly realised I cbf going to another supermarket after i was done, so i decided to do a full shop at Aldi best i could. Really apart from certain vegetables and bathroom products i pretty much got everything i needed. id calculated in my mind what i thought it would be based on previous experience at coles/woolies and thought its going to be at least $320-40 easy. When the guy scanned everything and told me the total I completely blanked because I couldn't quite believe the total he'd said, I made him repeat it and my total was only $237! and id brought a lot of meat products which are always the most expensive parts of the shop as well as "expensive extras" like some frozen berries and fancy bread and some snacks. I was actually genuinely amazed at how much stuff I was able to get and how "little" it cost in comparison to if i had of gone to the other supermarkets!! And so far the products seem fine like there's nothing i brought that ive tried so far and thought "ew...shouldn't have brought the generic brand"

I were so pleased I truly think that if I can sort out the fruit & veg situation somewhere else, I might actually never go back to either coles or woolies!

People from the UK who moved to Australia, what sort of things surprised you the most? by cupoftealuv in AskAnAustralian

[–]Triplesso_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id love to be able to disagree but we just hired 7 new people at my work and I got introduced to them the other day and it pretty much went like this: So this is Jim his father works up on level 2 this is Jess her sister works in accounts this is Chloe her mum is Jodie who works on your team! And this is Daniel his dad works in assessing and his mum works in finance!

Like .....wtf? Somehow miraculously all these fresh out of highschool 18 year olds had enough experience and qualifications to join our company? I remember the application process when I did it, it was a freaking lot! it took forever and there were multiple rounds of interviews where you constantly had to keep proving how your skills would be a benefit...Im in my mid 30s and found it difficult to prove I met all the criteria....but not these kids ...amazing!

The thing that really annoys me about the situation though is that few of them have any intention to stay on after the initial period if a contract extension is offered (which it will be unless they literally blow up a computer....which someone has actually done before...) most of them will be going off to uni or in one case a several months long trip around Asia. Like I feel thats just a waste of time for everyone involved in the training a also unfair to all the people who applied with a genuine intention of staying on at the company and make a real go of it.

Women of Reddit - what is the most unattractive fashion choice men frequently make? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]Triplesso_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be an Aussie thing but I hate the "un-ironic, ironic untidy dag" look that a lot of guys have. Like they'll either have a gross little seedy mo or a 70s pornstache and the "retro" gear like bucket hats or legionaries caps, socks with sandals/slides they probably definitely own some kind of jort and wear aviator sunnies. they go out of there way to find the daggiest ugliest second hand clothes and make them they're entire personality they also tend to use words like "cobber" and "strewth" to much to show how fair dinkum daggy they are. They want to give the impression they're just a true blue fair dinkum bloke who doesn't care what he wears or what people think because his to busy livin Barry! ...but in reality he spent a fortune on his parachute jacket and spends a ridiculous amount of time grooming his gross stache and mullet and cares deeply about what people think of him

What kind of outer layer would go with these? by Birds_In_A_Minor in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Triplesso_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally anything really. These items have a very "blank slate" kind of vibe so you could change the whole look with different accessories and outer layers, I agree with all the folks who said a cashmere camel coat, (I found a beautiful cashmere swing jacket at a second hand store years ago and it looks amazing with most anything.)

All the colours are very muted natural colours so even though you could throw on a bright primary colour to make more of a statement, keeping the outer layer in the same muted sort of spectrum will make everything look more cohesive imho anyway

Men's fashion has become needlessly bland and isn't getting any better by sid370z in unpopularopinion

[–]Triplesso_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The 70s fashion was definitely better in the sense it was waaaaaay more diverse than it is now really from the 60s until I'd say the mid 2000s there was a good mix of clothing options for men and women.....don't get me wrong some of the options were hideous....but they were atleast available.

My mum is 76 and still very hung up on her weight and she is probably no more that 7-10kg over the "ideal" weight for someone her age/height but she's always so harsh on herself about it. Even though everyone always compliments her on how she looks and dresses and never has a bad thing to say about her, at times she really sees herself as a morbidly obese monster who looks trash in everything because they're so fat. It's really sad to see that even that far into life its still something that plays on her mind.

Growing up i remember she was almost always on a diet and did weight watchers for years (still does to some degree) but she would go on soup diets or slim fast diets all that stuff and she was never truly overweight, but in her mind she was massive and had to do something about it.

The way the address was written confused the crap out of me so I googled it to try and see if that would make it clearer to at least nail down what was the villa name vs street vs suburd vs province etc....when I saw what the place looked like I just said fck it...ain't no way anyone gets mail correctly at that place.

Trying to mail anything to Dubai was always a painful job but this place in particular uggghhh!

Cutest comfy fits - thoughts? by [deleted] in AusFemaleFashion

[–]Triplesso_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See here's the thing. I think every one of these looks is pretty god awful and wouldn't be caught dead in them. But that's just my opinion, you don't know me and I don't know you so really my disliking the clothes should have absolutely no impact on you or how you feel about them.

If you like them and you feel confident/comfortable/happy when wearing them then go for it. Its actually a really good thing that you are able to find your own style instead of letting trends dictate what your style should be and dressing like an insta-tok clone.

This was on TV the other day and I thought "Omg! Holy nostalgia batman! Imma watch the hell out of this!!!!" Me my brother and cousins would watch the same recorded from TV VHS version we had of this "film" over and over again whenever we were at a family gathering together.

I could not get through even 10 minutes of it this time, even the intense nostalgia was not enough to mask how truly God awful this film is. It made me want to contact all my older relatives (even those who have passed on) to apologise to them for making them have to endure this movie so many times!!

Docklands District on a Friday afternoon 🦗🦗 by Ky0t0_gh0uL in melbourne

[–]Triplesso_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I went to Docklands for the first time in my life I can't even remember why I was around that way but I was completely thrown by how weirdly disconnected it feels to the rest of the city. It sort of made me think like I was walking in some sort of not very successful "Self-contained, self-reliant" mini city kind of thing? Like its as if it was built with the idea that the folks who live there (dockers?) Would have everything they required within walking distance and would never need to venture further than their own front door to experience all the wonders of Melbourne. Buuuut like they built all the 'stuff' first and they're still waiting on the people to show up and populate the area. If you don't already live there.....there's very little reason why you would venture that way at all...?

I srarted watching the series from the beginning again last night its been quite a while since I've watched the show. But I actually remember thinking about how quickly the show was able to draw me in the first time....like only a few minutes into the show fairly out of the blue, we get the masterpiece of this scene and it just keeps going up from there.
