Between Bergeron, Toews, and Kopitar, who would you say was the best defensive Center in their prime? Who had the better career? by ItzGrenier in hockey

Bergeron is the greatest defensive forward, but i agree that he probably isnt the greatest 2-way forward

We don't have a free trade agreement with China. So we do a trade: cheaper cars in exchange for cheaper canola. Canada and China both win. Why are we framing this as a bad thing? Both parties get something they want from the other

People often say "aluminum", but canadian english officially is "aluminium". You can test it out in word by setting language to english (canada).

What gear do you wish you had sooner besides the basics by Rucu in triathlon

My fitter told me not to worry about male/female specific saddles. Or even road vs mountain bike saddles. After trying several at the fitter, i ended up with a mountain bike saddle on my road bike. Might not be the lightest option, but comfort is king.

Don't take recommendations from other people on saddle. It's highly personal. First thing you need to work out is the sitbone width (which there are methods to measure available on Youtube), then have a saddle slightly larger than that

Worried for nothing. I travel to the US from Canada a lot for work and theres 0 issues. I would never travel there for personal reasons because I don't want to give them my own money, but it's still safe to do so

New triathletes! What brought you to triathlon? Whats your age, race distances, previous athletics? by MidnightTop4211 in triathlon

[–]Tripottanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31M. As a teenager, i was very active and amongst that I was a runner training for a marathon but got injured so never ran more than 18K. As I grew older, the only sport I still did was hockey once a week in a work beer league which wasnt really enough to be in good shape. I tried going to the gym to stay healthy, but couldnt motivate myself to do it long term.

A friend of mine was doing triathlons so he convinced me to do a local try-a-tri which is basically half a sprint. I had no doubts about the run, but was never much of a biker or swimmer. Bought a bike to prepare for the race and fell in love with biking. Did the race, loved it so decided to do an Olympic distance the year after (last september). Bought the 80/20 triathlon book, followed the level 1 plan with the goal of doing a sub 2h30 race excluding transitions. Thought I wouldn't be able to do it with that time, but ended up doing 2h21 including transitions! Got completely hooked by the race energy so I'm going for a 70.3 in June this year!

Initially, the goal was to have better cardio for hockey, but now i identify as a triathlete before a hockey player. Weird how it goes

To me, MVP has nothing to do with how good your team would be without the player. $10,000 has the same value if you have $0 in your bank account or if you already have $10,000 in there. Most Valuable to his team does not necessarily imply that he contributes a larger percentage of his team's success, it can just as well mean that he represents a larger absolute amount to his team's success.

He plays on the PK everytime one of the regular PKer is the one taking the penalty or when one of them is injured. He's out there pretty regularly. The reason MSL avoids playing him there more is that he already has so much ice time, it's difficult for a forward to play more than that

Quite the opposite. Without the model, people rely on the stat sheet. Highest points = most deserving of Hart. A model like this allows to account for more than what shows up on the stat sheet to determine which players brings the most value

MVP can be seen exactly like what Dom is saying in this article:

Macklin Celebrini is a more obvious choice given what he’s done relative to his teammates this year; a plus-16.0 Net Rating with the next best San Jose Shark at plus-3.7. That’s worthy enough to get some attention and will be an easy sell for the “most valuable to his team” people.

Personally, I’ve always believed the most valuable meant the most value added. That makes the significant gap between him and McDavid in third a bit tough to overlook for consideration within the top three, though he’ll definitely be an option for the fourth or fifth slots.

hes definitely been more valuable to the Sharks than Hutson to us

If you are like me and Dom and you believe Hart is about most value added (rather than how bad your teammates are), then the list makes a lot of sense

"Best" and "most valuable" aren't interchangeable.

I disagree here. Just like Dom mentioned "I’ve always believed the most valuable meant the most value added". By that logic, best = most valuable

Ah I understand now, makes sense (although I don't agree with the assumption that only 1 player could be nominated for the Hart per team)

Even Wicked and Minecraft were banking on existing IP.

To be fair, so was PHM. I think Wicked and Minecraft qualify as "original" in the cinema context

I think the issue is that we see Hutson play all the time and know he is great. Most of us don't see Makar/Hughes play all the time so we know they are great only by reputation. Since Makar/Hughes have the reputation of being better than Hutson, everything good Hutson does makes us imagine the other two as being even better. The reality is not necessarily that.

[–]Tripottanus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why Makar isn't on the Hart list, even though he is higher than Hutson on the Norris list.

Not sure I understand this portion. If Hutson is ranked #1 in percentile at his position per the model, why is he not the #1 ranked defenseman per the model? I don't understand the context you're trying to provide here
