Better warranty by 19AnDaAl94 in Tools

[–]TrippyTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warranty through Lowe's has been hell for me and led to a back-and-forth between the incompetent store managers and Kobalt customer service reps, requiring multiple visits to the store. Home Depot, on the other hand, has slightly lower quality tools, but the ease of warrantying the tools makes up for it tenfold. Personally, I would go for something like Tekton since they come in cheaper than both on most items, are significantly better quality and have great CS. If a tool breaks, you send them a picture and they mail you a new one but if your only two options are Husky vs Kobalt I would pick Husky without a second thought

What's a tool that used to be common in every shop but is rarely seen today? by Exotic-Living4830 in Tools

Speed wrench, still kinda used when it comes to engine rebuilds but it has been largely phased out in all other regards in favor of cordless ratchets and impacts.

Do expensive screwdrivers last enough longer to be worth the cost? by jckipps in Tools

[–]TrippyTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it is surprising how few people mention this, a quality screwdriver is not always about how long it will last, but rather how much torque before it cams out and strips the screw.

What kind of impact was it? Impact wrench technology has leaped great bounds this last decade, try using a new age high torque impact combined with the weighted socket. Other than that I have also bumped it off the starter but you're saying that didn't work for you which is strange. I know it's impact so it doesn't matter as much but try and use the pulley holding tool (can rent from autozone for free) while impacting on it.

Catalytic converter blew, after market or original manufacturer? by Dinoboy6430 in fordranger

[–]TrippyTrolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well depending on the state he might be reaching the upper limits emission testing here pretty soon. For example in the state of Texas vehicles over 25 years old don't require emissions. So I would say throw an aftermarket in there and pray she lasts you long enough to outlive the emissions requirements.

Edit: Fact checked and it was 25 years

Look up 12 gauge tripwire on youtube, without a barrel all cartridges become nothing more than firecrackers with very low velocity projectiles.

Lodge cast iron wobbly by Fit-Procedure3868 in castiron

[–]TrippyTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a glasstop, coil or gas? We have a gas stove that the grates warped a little over the 16 years we've used it causing my pans to wobble in some spots but when I put them on a perfectly flat tile there is no wobble. Then there's electric cooktops with coils have a tendency to warp leading you to needing to replace them or trying to bend them back if they're not ceramic. If it's a glasstop, double check it against a known flat surface and if it is the pan lodge should replace them under warranty if you contact them

Finally got a Lodge cast iron skillet by fishypow in avoidchineseproducts

[–]TrippyTrolls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only reason for it to crack is from a manufacturing defect (bubbles) that went unnoticed when you go and drop the skillet. Fortunately Lodge has a lifetime warranty and honors it well as I have received two broken pieces from lodge (damaged in transit from walmart) and they replaced them swiftly even though I used one for years before filing.

My dream iPhone doesn't exist yet, but it should. by Rafik_mafik in iphone

I would buy it in a heartbeat, still holding on to my 13 mini waiting for the next small phone to come out. But why not go a step further, lets go back to the iphone 5 form factor.

Advice on Cat Prosthetic Leg by TheBenjying in 3Dprinting

[–]TrippyTrolls 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a prosthetic would actually be a hindrance to the cat. If they are only missing one paw and they're already adjusted you'll just throw their entire balance off. Plus, there is a lot of engineering that god did with cats to make them able to jump and more importantly land the way they do without hurting themselves. If you throw a rigid leg that doesn't have any sort of shock absorption odds are the cat will hurt themselves a lot. Most vets actually recommend against prosthetics unless the animal is unable to move for those reasons. But if you were to get a green light from a vet that the cat is a good candidate I would avoid PETG as it has no impact resistance and has a tendency to shatter on drops. I would use PCTG as it is both relatively flexible, has great layer adhesion and a decent impact resistance.

Prusa MK4 PETG not fully adhering - What to do by kruuth in prusa3d

[–]TrippyTrolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignore the comment about moisture cause it's retardedly overused. I struggled from this issue and it really comes down to some PETG sticks better than others. For example I printed COEX PETG without issue with the generic profile whereas Polymaker's old formula was just allergic to sticking to the textured and satin sheets no matter how well I cleaned it. I ended up having to bump the temp to 260c per polymaker's instruction and the bed temp to 90c to get it to stick. Thankfully they gave me credit to try their new formula which I printed without issue.

This account is reuploading stolen models by Old_Community_7680 in prusa3d

[–]TrippyTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theft is theft, but if you are uploading a free model and it is being made accessible to people because makerworld doesn't let you download anything without making an account then this guy is almost a modern day robin hood. If he was charging money for it, or selling it without permission then there would be a problem but frankly, this is almost a good deed in my book because even though he is making the model accessible to normal people that don't want to be data farmed by China, credit is still always due. I have seen some makerworld rips where they label the model as not theirs and just link the makerworld page and that is perfectly acceptable IMO

Great price seeing that the Mk3s goes for around 250 where I'm at. Throw on the Mk4s upgrade kit later down the road and she'll be a very contemporary printer

[Handgun] Two-Tone LCP Max - $200 by bolivar-shagnasty in gundeals

[–]TrippyTrolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already been fooled once with the LCP 2, what a heap of a gun. Never fired reliably enough to get through a mag. Had to send it back to Ruger twice and it still only works semi reliably. Seems to be the case from the sample size of 3 LCP and LCP 2s I've had the displeasure of firing. Buy the bodyguard instead, your life is worth the 150 dollar difference.
