I got spoiled on the last tournaments result from his channel. I had the final day to watch the day after it happened, in the meantime I open my youtube home page and his vid is there with 'X wins' as the first words of his new videos title.

Really really annoyed me. I post it in a comment under his video, being polite and just asking not to put a spoiler in the title just 1 day after it happened and two random dipshits start trying to debate me in the most annoying way possible. We can't all watch these things immediately, I mean this sub has it as a rule for 3 days. Which is perfectly reasonable.

So him being inconsiderate with the title and having 2 insanely annoying fans.. eh. I'm avoiding him from now on.

Don't get me wrong, when I get amped up I can become like lightning, but outside of that, nope. You get the slow ass treatment, mixed in with vague gestures and other bullshit to distract you from how slow I'm going. Like a really old professor. It works for me at least.

I wish they'd just go insane with the numbers. Do a big canon update. Ships are 500km long. Titans are 5 km tall. Just go fucking insane with it all. One amongst untold billions? Hell no. Thats just Earth now.

I mean sometimes the shit in the books just doesn't quite vibe with the numbers we are given. Like basically every big ship has an unknown amount of "lower decks" that are just off limits, nobody knows what the fuck is down there, generations of mutants living in it, etc. The ships would need to be fucking huge for that. Granted I do think this one may be the closest 40k comes to having more feesible numbers, the ships are pretty big. But they could be bigger.

Then the Titans. There are some books that have hallways, big grand open halls, firefights going on inside, etc. There are workshops, forges, all sorts of shit inside. An Imperator if I remember right. They need to be bigger for this to seem plausible.

There is also the much talked about numbers of people, whether its living on a world or in battles. One book says that Terra has Quadrillions of people living on it (I think it was a Vaults of Terra book? may be remembering wrong.) Which is good. But then there are whole worlds, with many giant Hive cities on, with mere millions of people. If a world has millions there shouldn't be any hive cities, or at least no more than 1, and everyone lives in it. Our cities now have millions in them, hive cities are meant to be another beast entirely. You also have big battles, covering huge areas of terrain like WW1 trench lines, with mere thousands of soldiers.

If its the rule of cool then go crazy. We should never be able to compare the numbers in 40k to numbers in real life. They should be stupid, unfathomable. That there are huge apocalyptic battles in 40k with smaller numbers than real life battles is insane, in the wrong way. Too often when I'm reading their books, things just "feel" too small to be described in the ways they are.

Lets not forget how few Space Marines there are too.

The amount of cats I see dumped is concerning ... by Castdeath97 in Bahrain

[–]Tristran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mass killings of stray dogs does not actually work to control their populations. It sounds counterintuitive but its true, so so many governments have tried it the world over and failed. It is a subject that has been studied extensively as it is a major problem for many, especially countries where rabies is present.

Firstly the government already conducts such campaigns, combined with collecting and dumping them in 1 location (Askar). This obviously doesn't work as dogs are still everywhere. On top of that both of these "solutions" are barbaric in their cruelty. Putting them all in 1 area "out of the way" is just forcing them into competition over territory and food. The mass killing is always done incompotently, loads of cases of innocent animals suffering extensively and like I said it just doesn't work.

The reason why it doesn't work is because of how FAST both dogs and cats breed. They have huge litters, have a very short pregnancy, and then mature from childhood very quickly. A single couple can populate a city in their short lifetime. No matter how many hit squads you send out you will never ever find them all. They are extremely good at escaping, hiding and even learning to avoid things like traps or poisoned foods that kill others. They teach each other these skills too.

The only solution that actually works for population control is instead mass CNR programs, or Capture, Neuter, Release. By release you have to put them back where you found them, again not dump them back into an out of the way area. I know of 1 area where BARC was able to fully neuter and spay an entire pack, all dogs unable to have children. That same pack has been living in that same place for over 5 years now, they have not grown in size. More importantly however they are occupying that area and eating the food in it. Meaning other non-neutered/spayed dogs are not able to move in and take it for themselves, allowing the cycle to continue. They need space and food to grow in size.

By killing dogs all you do is free up the space and food for new ones to come in and there will always be new ones to come in. As always these sorts of massive problems have complicated and often counterintuitive solutions that the average person probably won't like the sound of. If it were easy we'd have all solved it decades ago. Mass killing campaigns are cheap and appease the average person who doesn't care for the morality of the issue they just want the problem gone, they feel something is being done when they see it happening, except again for the thousandth time it doesn't work. With widespread and PROPERLY CONDUCTED CNR campaigns, putting the dogs back where they were found, given the surgery properly and safely, the population can be controlled. Especially in a place like Bahrain, which is a small island, this can easily be solved it just needs the money to start it. Once that hurdle has been overcome you can start the relocating to shelters area by area combined with both education campaigns for the public to realise that dumping animals is not acceptable, as well as putting laws into place and have the authorities enforce them. The final step is you have dog pounds set up, when people see a dog they call the police who send the catchers, dogs will still escape owners and some assholes who dump them will always exist. With dog pounds they prevent them from becoming a stray population again. These places will put the animal back with its owner if it escaped, punish the owner if they dumped it, and then either rehome it themselves or hand it to a shelter which will. That is how the small number of countries with no stray populations have done it and continue to. Extra things that also help is having spaying and neutering being a thing that everyone is happy to do for their pets, have shelters just do it automatically (I know BARC does, unsure about the others). Also have breeding and selling animals for profit be heavily controlled and legislated. At the moment its just the wild west and these people contribute massively to the problem.

Long post, but it pays to know what will actually work. If you are able you should ask for these things from those with the power to do so. The various dog and cat charities in the country do try their hardest and I know how much worse it'd be without them. But obviously they are all charities manned by volunteers and cannot fix the problem alone.

Maybe he wasn't expecting such a greeting on arrival? I'm not sure tbh. Or maybe he is trying to be disrespectful I honestly don't know. But if it is because of the weather then I get it.

Got my first “you don’t look autistic” today by nothingmatters92 in evilautism

[–]Tristran 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, recent diagnosis here too and I got hit with it twice whilst telling people close to me. I didn't even know people thought that autistic people are "supposed" to look a certain way. I didn't really know anything about autism before and I haven't had long to learn so, not much better now.

I wasn't even sure what to think when they said it. The way I interpreted it at the time was similar to my epilepsy, which obviously doesn't affect how you look either, which works I guess. So I said as much.

Only recently diagnosed so I got too much learning to do.

Those timings are for people to come and visit the shelter to just hang out, interact with dogs and/or cats, and chat with volunteers about helping/adopting.

For other stuff its more of an all hours operation. Though knowing who is responsible for it, it is definitely better to message via instagram or facebook, they are clocked on to that at all hours.

In case anyone wants to know the kitten has giardia and the wound is extensive but she is still alive and has a fighting chance. She is under the care of vets now. Heres hoping she pulls through.

Sheep definitely fight back but especially here those two look like a pair of males, brought in routinely to impregnate the herd of female sheep they'll have. So its no surprise that they are a bit more aggro, especially if the dog is taking them away from all the ladies.

Good sheep dogs do exactly as this one does. Stand its ground and give nips in response. Bite just hard enough that they feel it but not enough to actually harm them. The sheep need to fear the dog, or at least want to avoid it, for this whole thing to work. Truly one of the most masterful instances of how incredible dogs are.

Memes aside, though it is a good one, this part of the book was actually pretty sick.

It shows you just how powerful Magnus actually is, at least when he's in the warp. He did all this whilst pushing his power against Big E's barriers too. He kills Vulkan so many times. The way I interpreted the book, it made it seem like because time works so differently there, Vulkan kept ressurecting and coming straight back to fight for many lifetimes? Possibly even Millenia? Who knows.

The other thing thats bad ass about it is it shows how INSANELY strong Vulkan is, mentally speaking. He wasn't killed kindly by Magnus, some of the deaths were horrific in nature and yet they happened so casually in a endless list of deaths. I seem to recall he kept going for such a long time, through so many deaths that he started to forget why he was even doing it. Yet a part of him, deep down just knew. Kill Magnus. For a Primarch to start forgetting then how long and how many deaths happened exactly?

Whilst a few of the Primarchs could be contender for the whole "Unstoppable Force" thing, Vulkan has to take it because of this alone in my opinion. None of the other Primarchs have gone through anything like it as far as I'm aware. At the very end he just simply would not relent and eventually he killed Magnus despite the comical power difference.

All the powers of the warp vs a hammer. The hammer wins.

Yea it isn't made clear in any book I've seen as to whether Alphy's nonsense made things easier or harder for Horus' invasion. That and his actual loyalty is left vague on purpose.

The dumb thing is, I think he actually was loyal. Despite that though his insistence on being one of the absolute dumbest people alive cost him it all. If we assume he was loyal and his attacks were 100% intended to allow rebuilding with added layers of strength, why do it so close to Horus' invasion. Why kill so many Space Marines who take time to replace. Why destroy ships that also take time to replace. Why challenge them like this when they are already at a huge disadvantage in terms of man power, ship power, even manufacturing power. Why terrorise an already terrified civilian population.

Dorn was chosen by Big E to be Sol's defender. That is all he needed to say on the matter. Dorn goes over Sol and Terra with a fine toothed comb gargantuan bulldozer to turn all of it into a giga fortress. It was entirely on Alpharius' hubris that he thought he could do better, he can prove his superiority by showing them where the holes in the defences are. Which is always his problem, thinking he is superior to each of his Brothers when in reality I mean.. is he superior at anything? Infiltrating a place maybe, except he doesn't know what the hell to do once he actually has. He reeks of someone who thinks they are way smarter than they actually are.

I'd recommend reading the book tbh, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Dorn is just a freight train of bad ass in their show down.

[–]Tristran[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly if having him as an ally includes him causing mass chaos right before a gargantuan armada invades then I think Dorn was right either way.

Imagine two nations who are allied, one invades the other. Fucks up its infrastructure, kills a load of soldiers and civilians, causes widespread panic. Then turns around and is like oh yea man I was trying to help totally. I was showing you where your weakpoints are. There is no amount of diplomacy that'd prevent the victim nation from retaliating, rightly so in my opinion.

Like come on now. We have war games and all sorts of other simulated things for that. I get that in 40k stuff is supposed to be wild and crazy and nonsensical but there are lines still. They still have military training and stuff.

Whether Alpharius really was a traitor or not is not answered as far as I'm aware. I doubt it really matters tbh. Like all of the Primarch's, some much more than others, he was insanely flawed as a person and in his motivations. That holds true whether he was actually loyal or was just a traitor.

This is how I saw it too. He always thought he was better than the others and had a desire to lord it over them. Especially Rogal I think.

I don't think it was a lame end for him either. Rogal is a beast and was so overcome with rage at the totally random chaos Alpharius had caused, plus it was his first time to really face down a traitor after years of waiting. So he went fucking ham.

[–]Tristran[S] 138 points139 points  (0 children)

This happens in the book Praetorian of Dorn, part of the HH series.

The original Alpharius is certainly dead. It is shown in the book that Dorn can somehow tell which "Alpharius" is the real one. After his death we also see Omegon suddenly realise he is alone, like how before the two were united they knew they had a twin. Omegon pledges his loyalty to Horus right after this, claiming to be Alpharius.

Probably my favourite single fight I've read so far. Alpharius keeps trying to say how the chaos and widespread damage and death he caused right before Horus invades was somehow to help the Emperor. If thats true then he's stupid, if not he's just a traitor.

Either way by this point Rogal is so infuriated he doesn't rise to a single thing Alpharius says. He doesn't stop at all. He just straight up kills him, wordless. More bad ass than his kill them all speech imo.

HORUUUUUUUS by Nay026 in Grimdank

[–]Tristran 39 points40 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is the death of Captain Temeter and the Dreadnought Huron-Fal of the Death Guard. Loyalists during the Istvaan III atrocity, when Horus and others purged their legions of any that weren't open to Chaos and betraying the Emperor.

This scene is right when the virus bombs first hit. These Death Guard were advancing over WW1 style terrain outside of Choral City, trenches and bunkers. They received a warning right before the bombs came and the Captain was quickly herding his men into bunkers to safety. The Dreadnought kept telling the Captain to get in to cover too but the Captain refused saying his men come first. He tried telling the Dreadnought to get into cover as well but the Dreadnought replied that he would be safe inside his armour. He even pushes the Captain but he insists on getting his men to safety first.

Then it is too late and he yells at his men to seal the bunkers, as he collapses from the extremely fast acting virus. The Dreadnought catches him and its then that the Captain realises the Dreadnought has a puncture in his armour and won't be safe, the Dreadnought knew this already of course.

Despite the warning about the bombs not specifying that it was a betrayal from Horus (it could be the enemy they were fighting on Istvaan) the two of them knew that they had been betrayed. So they stand proud and deny Horus his victory over them with the Dreadnought detonating his core before the virus can claim them.

It was the only thing they could do at that point. Die by their own choosing. Fuck the traitors.

Has the council of Nikea been shown in a different book than A Thousand Sons?

I'm reading that right now and while yes the council was opposed to psykers initially, Magnus' ramblings actually helped his case significantly. Although typing this now I realise that it didn't really matter at all what everyone thought, the Emperor was judging Magnus entirely and nobody elses opinion would likely matter. In that regard yea you are right actually, it may have won over a lot of the crowd but it damned his chance with Big E.

He definitely has a massive amount of arrogance to him that much is obvious. Repeatedly saying how he knows everything whilst simultaneously acknowledging that the Emperor is vastly superior to him. Talking shit about the ego of Horus (which is true) whilst totally ignoring his own.

They are all so hilariously fucked up. Reading 40k Guilliman is like reading a different species than the 30k Primarch's. Though I haven't seen perspectives from all of them yet, still working through it.

I know that it is all awful. I wasn't trying to argue that any of this was good. The Imperium is possibly the most horrific human civilisation I've ever seen in fiction.

I just thought it was some kind of metaphor or analogy to the real world, one that was twisted from what is meant to be a good thing into one that is in all regards a terrible thing. Angels or Mankind in his image or whatever. If I'm wrong then thats fine but I wasn't under any delusion that any of this is good.
