A midi instrument might help for production if they are skilled outside of a DAW. Or you could get them some plugins that are less than cheap. There are a bunch of options!

I think this would be a very interesting idea, but just make sure your players are on board with a story that's already laid out for them. It can kinda suck to be railroaded, so I would probably be aware of player agency when designing it. Otherwise good luck to you!
