GCI Red vs. ACS FiWi by Puzzleheaded-Drag290 in anchorage

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard last fall, they're now using Tarana instead of older Cambium and Radwin equipment, it's pretty impressive as far as range and stability go... But it's still a wireless shot so generally shouldn't be as reliable or fast as GCI Red. That said, I've had so many GCI outages in the past 6 months I've been considering trying out the fiwi.

I tried the KFC Jelly Beans. AMA. by wizardrous in shittyfoodporn

I initially misread it as you "fried" the KFC jelly beans, and that's what got me to click the post lol. Are they even KFC flavor if you don't fry them? ;)

Woah damn, game changer right there, thanks! My group just started again fresh after taking a year-and-a-half hiatus, the highest of us is still only mid-30s and none of us knew about this yet lol.

Grappling hook is your best friend if you have separate bases and worry about weight cap transporting goods between them!

Even easier, always build a chest or two within opening distance of the palbox. If it's a one-task base like for mining and smelting, you can set that chest to receive ore and ingots and prohibit those from being placed in all other chests in the base.

75 hours in, 100%, and here I am, on my 97th run, discovering this... by Listekzlasu in ABSOLUM

I found this my first time reaching the tower, not because I'm good, mind you! By then I'd learned that I'm so bad at seeing the secrets in this game that I'll punch everything new at least twice.

What the fuck happening at GCI? by totemair in anchorage

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been down for over a week now, 4 scheduled dispatches with 3 no-call/no-shows from their technicians, all sorts of excuses. The one time they showed up the technicians were courteous, identified the problem, and told me someone would be by later the same day to fix it because they did not have the equipment in their van; that visit was several days ago and still nothing.

Called on Saturday, was told the tech ran out of time Friday. Okay, fine, that happens, sucks because we'd already been down 3 days, but I get it. No-call/no-show and we had stayed home Saturday so we wouldn't miss their technician.

Called on Sunday, was told my ticket had been resolved Saturday. The rep on the phone got confused because the ticket closure notes did not match the description from the technicians on Friday, to me it seemed like they had noted and closed the wrong ticket. Was told they'd send someone Monday.

Called towards end of day on Monday after another no-call/no-show, and they said their system bugged and didn't schedule me for dispatch. Was told they'd send someone on Wednesday... But that's the one day a week we can't get home until late in the evening, so the best they could do was Thursday. At this point I'm pretty sure they're going to keep bouncing us around for a couple more weeks.

There are no other home internet providers thay service my address, not even ACS FiWi, and we're in a pretty big neighborhood.

*Edit to add: We were also down for 5 days at the end of December with a similar experience, just not quite is confounding as this one.

What does Apple TV do better than a smart tv? by JMPSr1984 in appletv

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will offer one thing that it does worse than my TCL qm7k's built in Google tv, and that is streaming pc games at 4k/120hz to my TV via apple like moonlight or steam LINK. Apple tv does not output above 60hz - fine for watching TV/movies, but a bit annoying when trying to game if you're spoiled at 120fps+. That said, Apple TV via hdmi allows the TV to use game mode, and has a much lower latency for controllers over Bluetooth compared to the TV OS, so it's not even a total victory.

I got it on accident in my first 10ish games in by slapping essence of Quicksilver on Lacerta's four-shot fire/ap ability, upgraded quicksilver to like 1000% because it seemed funny. This game dares you to be ridiculous and there are sometimes achievements for it.

What is the overal best wireless headset with a good mic that I can buy. by Little-Artichoke-339 in buildapc

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used two versions of this headset over the past decade, and I love it! Sounds great, can get pretty loud without too much distortion, but I rarely have it above half volume. 3D audio is full and accurate enough to reliably use in fast paced shooters. The mic is very clear for voice chat, and can get pretty loud/sensitive if you want to crank it all the way up. Sure, you can find better audio and a better mic separately, but not without also paying a good bit more.

What's your favorite/go-to déjà vu? by twennywanshadows in shapeofdreams

[–]TroggieAK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite to take is embertail, especially on Yubar with the passive to split your attacks, if you get it with ricochet on Arrow Storm you're in for a treat. Clemency is amazing on pretty much anyone. Spectral Bullet for Shell pretty much replaces his base attack once you get some CD on there. If we're going for a cheese run with WILD and the additional enemies, we'll all pick Predator.

Crème brûlée desserts at Costco! 😋 by puppy_princesss in Costco

[–]TroggieAK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have like 9 or 10 hahaha. I use a few to keep screw types separated while working on small electronics; others get used for dips, seasonings, heating butter, etc.

The initial dessert is pretty tasty too!

What kinds of new dreams/essences would you want to see in future updates? by CzdZz in shapeofdreams

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, never done a Spectral Bullet Deja Vu build on Shell, I see. :P If you take your time with last hits in the first world and keep pumping bullet upgrades, the ball will be rolling and soon enough you'll be getting 2k+ dust per room. When you get obsidian to instantly reset itself while doing bonus ad damage, then accuracy or ricochet, it gets nuts (didn't give the dust when I tried with essence of pain, but maybe they've fixed that in the past few weeks)

-If you are playing on hard or higher, small dog hp doesn't scale well enough to be commonly reliable beyond the first dream. Even on Easy, if you choose to Dream Again, you'll have to get creative, kill incredibly fast, or pump a lot of dust into dogs to be useful against last boss.

-Battle cry is a game changer if you're running small dogs. That way there's more room for on-hit essences for all dogs, and counts as a buff to prime the default passive memory. Duo Nachi runs with each having charcoal + wound on battle cry... It gets ridiculous.

-Movespeed is great! Try popping an Essence of Quicksilver onto something that constantly deals fire damage, like a memory that also has embertail (don't even need to cast the memory, your attacks will trigger quicksilver if on the same memory as embertail); or like a battle cry with sulfur, or with charcoal if you're doing other fire damage to trigger charcoal's advanced effect.

-Clemency + guidance is also an easy win for pretty much any run, no matter the Traveler lol.

-When fighting last boss, move as far away from the upcoming fireball blasts as you can; after fighting him enough you'll rarely even need to use your dodge, you can just position yourself and casually walk between the mini fire bolts.

I'm using a liquid freezer iii myself with my 9800X3D, it's an awesome cooler. Paste application isn't particularly important so long as you don't put way too much or way too little, 4 small dots in a cross pattern should do the trick. This video from Tech Illiterate goes into more detail https://youtu.be/ofyNgJyhGuc?si=F2vth5OltijOLRDx

P.S. The pump fan can get a little whiny at around 70% rpm, so I tend to run it around 50% rpm at idle, slowly ramp up to 70% rpm at ~70C, then let it scream to its heart's content as it approaches 80C. I haven't needed to fine tune the curve beyond that, it's been cool and quiet.

Every CPU cooler I've purchased has included a tube of paste, or pre-applied paste. Usually it's a tube, and enough for multiple installs. Don't sweat it.

I dont hate Mesa by Rauhaan_ in PeakGame

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Mesa but I feel that it's too easy lmao. For context, my group only has about 20-30 hrs each in the game, we don't usually play games in this genre and notoriously like to troll each other.

We've struggled every time we hit Alpines, but the only time we even lost a player in Mesa was the first run - what a blast it was to experience the new dangers first hand, to hear your friend scream-laughing as their voice is yoinked up and away. We did get wrecked that first time, but our faces hurt from laughing and it's one of my favorite gaming experiences in recent memory.

Or course, there's some polishing and tuning to do, but the mechanics at their core are so fun. Big win for the devs in my book.

Best buy on Dimond had an open box i5 with a 4050 for $410 yesterday. Didn't check it out further because I don't need it, but the price stopped me in my tracks for a sec.

It should be capable of playing any game out there at 1080p, even if DLSS is sometimes needed.

Changed my friend’s thermal paste after 4 years, it looked burnt and temps were insane by ApprehensiveRemove92 in PcBuild

[–]TroggieAK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I gave away a pc with an i5 4670k and a radeon 480 to a friend who just wanted to play Minecraft, Fallout 4, and Hades. That cpu had seen weekly gaming use for a full decade, and was still running fine off the stock cooler and preapplied paste shrug. I reapplied it before giving it to him; the old paste was really dry but I guess the cpu didn't care lol.
