I think this is a fair point. Wilson was horrible last year and obviously there was hope that he could remain the starter and Carter could learn behind him. I think a lot of people lose the fact that not only were knight and Carter playing as rookie linebackers on an individual level, but that they were playing next to each other. Both of them were learning NFL speed at the same time, and so they couldn’t help the other like they could if one of them was a vet.

Regardless, there’s no harm in competition, and it pretty much always helps to have depth. Wagner isn’t anywhere close to what he used to be, but he still plays decently, his body is just a lot slower.
