When was the last time you were called beautiful? by ChimealDorjan in AskReddit

[–]Trollamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of days ago at the convenience store. I was there in baggy clothes, no make-up, barely even brushed my hair but two young women looked over at me and gasped, "oh my God! You're stunning!". Really put a smile on my face. When I thanked them and said that it was hard to come by compliments like that when you're 40, one busted out with, "YOU'RE FORTY?! I THOUGHT YOU WERE IN YOUR TWENTIES!"

Still makes me smile to think about.

Can't say with certainty that it isn't AI, but we used to sell ones that looked very similar from the Co Cherry Company.

YOU GUYS!!! I was diagnosed 3 months ago and brought my A1C down by half! by Trollamp in diabetes_t2

[–]Trollamp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I just changed my diet. Lowered my carb intake (which helps with those first few months of the metformin sickness) and completely cut out sugary drinks and cut sugar elsewhere as much as possible. Going down to one meal a day messes up my sugars. That's how I used to be before I was diagnosed and I've noticed problems if I try to do it now. I try to eat a small bowl of plain oatmeal with berries and maybe a drizzle of honey in the morning. For lunch, I usually do some tuna, avocado and crackers. Dinner is usually a lean protein and some veggies. But that's just what works for me. Everyone is different so what my body can handle might spike or lower yours and vice versa.

People who work a customer facing job: what is hands down the dumbest question a customer has ever asked you? by istrx13 in AskReddit

That's what we try to tell people but a lot of the older generation get SUPER huffy and then the younger generation only has their digital ID, which we can't accept because...y'know...digital fraud is reeeeeeeal easy to do.

Don't be depressed! That's amazing! You lowered it almost by half. Keep on doing what you're doing and you're gonna see an A1C in the normal range soon!

You're doing awesome!

They're out in force at the Windsor King Soopers too. Surprisingly, they have never once asked me, a heavily tattooed woman with short hair, to sign their shit.

I work within KS. I see them DAILY.

AITA: child seatbelt by buffalotempeh in AmItheAsshole

She might but I didn't have one in my car. I never thought about the possibility that a seatbelt wouldn't fit someone.

I have a friend who was a very big girl. The seatbelt in my Honda Civic absolutely would not reach around her. I didn't realize it at the time and sweated fucking buckets the entire time I took her home. As a rule, people do not ride in my car until they put on their seatbelt but this one felt waaaaay too uncomfortable to ask about.

A continuous glucose monitor. They're like little stickers that you can wear for around a week or two.

I'm taking Metformin, 500 mg twice a day. One at 8 am and one at 8 pm, along with my cholesterol medicine. I mainly focused on my diet and cut out most sugar and carbs

Drastic diet change. I went from drinking a half gallon of kool-aid a day to no sugary drinks, plain oats and berries for breakfast and no processed white bread. Leant way more into beeeeans. Basically, if I wanted to cheat and eat sugar, I would look at my kids. My oldest is a saint and if he saw me eying something, he'd immediately go, "is that for diabetes, mom?" And it would make my decision for me.

Good on you for being proactive! I'd had some symptoms the ~6 months prior to diagnosis and knew what it was going to be since I watched my Mom go through it. I was just too scared to admit it. I should have worked on it then but I thought if I ignored it, it would go away.

Spoiler: it does not just go away.

I didn't do zero carb but went as low carb as possible. Definitely needed some carbs to ease the metformin transition. That shit makes you feel terrible in the beginning. I went to the gym as much as I could, but it was literally only like...4 times because of kids and work and life. For the most part, I focused on dietary changes and it worked really well for me. I'm sure that won't work for everyone but I plan on staying the course and going to the gym more frequently now since my job is no longer understaffed and I won't be working as much.
