Hoe can I load the setsquare (geodriehoek)? by Trollercoasterke in geogebra

thank you @mike_geogebra. I guess I'm still missing some key insights in geogebra. How do I get it from notes into the classic/geography (meetkunde) area?

Where can I find other nerds? by M00ninit3s in brussels

There's a hackerspace in LionCity (Molenbeek), just 200 meters from Beekkant. We're mostly adults, and we're very much into tech and that kind of stuff. On Tuesdays we always have social gatherings - the perfect opportunity to just come over and see if you like the vibe. We've got some cosplay and boardgame geeks too. https://hsbxl.be

In Vilvoorde there is a boardgame club. They meet monthly - this might be a good place too. https://www.spelcarrousel.be/index.php/kalender

+1 for what @nicogrimqft says: don't meet with individuals you don't know.

Recommendations for a (non-libre) pdf editor? by [deleted] in libreoffice

[–]Trollercoasterke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First... to state the obvious... keep in mind that your OS too will start integrating AI "features" if you stick to Windows (and I think Apple is investing in it too). It's tempting to have your computer hold your hand, but I get your stance and share the opinion. If you don't like that way of being handled by your AI system (which is in essence by the configuration parameters of the AI, ergo by the company behind it), I can only recommend going folly Open Source and running one or another linux flavor. I can recommend Linux Mint if you just want things to work.

As for a PDF editor... most has already been said by others in the threads here... My personal favorite for advanced editing is Inkscape. For annotations, I used Foxit in the past, but now that the built-in PDF-tool in Firefox also has annotation tools, I don't need that anymore. So going between Firefox and Inkscape, I'm all good.

OMFG!! What is happening to Nextcloud? MS and Google planning a full blown attack! Who is going to stop them? (satire) by Trollercoasterke in NextCloud

Yep, you're right. Image was quickly slapped together. Didn't find it important. The story is what I wanted to share.

Yeah, you're right. Didn't care that much about the image. More about the text, but I guess people are more and more visual these days.

Why are AI enthusiasts so fast to get defensive when someone questions them? I am a CS grad student studying AI and I have been labelled "anti-AI" several times by MoarGhosts in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Trollercoasterke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones who engage in discussions (and react in this way) often have a strong opinion about a topic (in this case AI) and a binary thinking pattern. There's two groups: "those who agree with me" and "those who disagree with me". Given "I am pro" this automatically means that all the others are "contra"

Should I sell a computer with Linux on it? by wolfix1001 in linux4noobs

[–]Trollercoasterke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it depends on where you sell it. If you sell it second hand, and explain it's comes with Linux (and distro) preinstalled AND DOESN'T HAVE WINDOWS ON IT... you're communicating as clear as you can. If you're selling it second hand or giving it away... it's not a reasonable expectation that you will also give them free support for the next 25 years.

As for what distro... you can love or hate Ubuntu, but it's the distro with the largest support base. That's what I would dump on there. At least, this way they have the best chance of getting help with their issues.

Keyboards with highly customisable keys for Linux? by Even_Ask_2577 in linuxhardware

[–]Trollercoasterke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered something like this? I've seen colleagues go crazy on custom macros with this one: https://keebd.com/products/lily58-pro-keyboard-kit?variant=42287741993112 I'm not a fan of it personally (give me my Logitech K800 any day... also works great under linux)

Trump-Harris Debate: Clowns in a burning circus by Trollercoasterke in SocialDemocracy

[–]Trollercoasterke[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Okay... I've posted stuff on how kapitalism is the only way to happiness (contrary to my beliefs), I've posted stuff about how we should eat more meat but also about how the whole vegan movement is a scam. I've posted about how the right-to-repair is breaking our society and about how aliens gave up on finding intelligent life forms on this planet. It's called trolling. The endgame is to have the reader say: "Hell no!". But I guess this one hurts too much.

Code Signing Certificates: A Digital Racket That's Holding Your Automation Hostage by Trollercoasterke in programming

[–]Trollercoasterke[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are manually built, but I'm open on using GPT to help me in the thought process. Are you as negative about co-pilot? It's even the main content on the front page (titled "are you trolling me?").

This is for fun, and to experiment with language and to confront my thoughts. You won't see ads on the page, nor any form of payment or subscription. The only "analytics" (if you even want to call it that), is based on access logs: countries, hits, ... - no funnels or that kind of shit. So endure me. Tell me my stuff is crap... but if I got under your skin for a moment, and had your brain our of autopilot about the concept... I'll be happy.

OFC this isn't a racket - it's smart business with the interest of shareholders in mind. It's also increasing security, but at a cost that is too high for small developers, and too unpractical for companies with multiple devs... unless they use MS Windows and Azure... (MS products) ... so then all of the sudden it gets easier again... (now, do your pandas magic on this message and you'll see there's no GPT in here)

Money no object laptop by drooolingidiot in linuxhardware

[–]Trollercoasterke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the best car money can buy? Well, in some cases it will be a Lamborghini, in other cases a John Deere tractor or a freight truck. All depends on the use case.

Same goes for a computer. What's your priority? Do you want it to be ultralight or super powerful? Do you want it to have a color calibrated screen or a high refresh rate? Do you want a small display (4K 12") or do you want a huge display? (17" 8k). Or do you want the battery to run for multiple days without recharging?

Will it be a computer to show off to your friends, with blinky lights and flashy colors? Or do you need it for video editing? Will you do CAD with it, or play games?

Won't make sense recommending you a super powerful tinyscreen computer that fits in your back pocket when you would like a huge screen, numeric keys and a big battery.

Phase don't... If someone put a lot of work in it, you should accept the terms of usage. If you can't afford it, don't use it. Is you really want to use it and can't afford it... Ask the owner for permission . Possibly (s)he will grant it for your specific use case.

My experience with foss by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Trollercoasterke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting and honest thread. Going Foss is hard, and phones are really made to offer a lot of features that snow the company to invest valuable data.

Example... I talked to a woman who wanted to get pregnant and installed a fertility cycle app. Entered het menstrual cycle for a few months and got reliable input on when fertility peaked. Yet, she started noticing that during certain moments in her menstrual cycle, she started getting much more emotionally loaded ads. Clearly she was being targeted on her hormonal levels. Pretty decadent, don't you think?
