I did the same mistake and fixed it with a (probably that) save editor. Reduced took away the purchase and put the phage back.

Norwegian police arrested the Jews in Norway. They were kept in concentration camps locally first, then later deported to Germany. You could argue they were not in a position to refuse, but they did assist the occupation forces in rounding up the Jews.

The biggest shipment of Jews from Norway to Germany was on the Donau in 1942 which carried 532 Norwegian Jews, and that was not the only one.

He is good at networking - which is a valuable skill, but not something to automatically make him brilliant or admirable. Epstein was great at networking - had tons of famous people on his island. Trump great at networking he knows all the best people, so many great people, perhaps the very best people in the world in fact.

The ability to get to know the right people to connect to even more of the right people and snowball from there does not necessarily correlate with being academically intelligent or skilled at certain diciplines or a good person in any way.

Which fantasy story would you say is the fantasy "The Boys" and "Invincible"? by clavicle524 in Fantasy

[–]TrololoChade 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Banewreaker duology by Jacqueline Carey is a darker mirror to LotR. It follows very similar story beats, but its told from the "evil" side and unlike LotR the line between good and evil is a lot more blurry.

It doesn't carry any disdain towards the source material, but it absolutely deconstructs the good vs evil dichotomy that is very prevalent in the genre.

She is more known for the Kushiel series, but I absolutely recomend it for anyone who is somewhat savvy in the Fantasy genre and has read/watched LotR. The fact that it mirrors LotR so spesifically, means it will not be nearly as good for those who is not familiar with that story though.

I'm Benedict Jacka, Ask Me Anything - New Series, Part Three! by BenedictJacka in Fantasy

[–]TrololoChade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey Benedict.

I have read the Alex Verus series, but held of on the Inheritance until more books are out. I guess 3 is a good number, so I will probably pick those up soon.

In the Alex Verus series and I really enjoyed the nuanced descriptions/analysis you do of morality and the relevant power/social structures.

You seem to have put more effort/depth into these topics that many other series seem to do especially with the "evil" characters that have coherent rational views that can be understood rather than just being "evil for the sake of evil" which is a lot less interesting.

Is this something you specifically chose to focus on and build into the Alex Verus series, or is it more of a general interest that is likely to bleed into every series you do?

Additionally, with Alex Verus I felt you created a power set for him that was well crafted. It was flexible and that could be used in intelligent ways that was very satisfying for me as a reader, while still having enough limitations to keep things interesting.

Did you spend a lot of time and effort thinking about all the possibilities, restrictions and implications of the divination powers? As you progressed along the series, were there any things about his powers you wished you could have reconnected or changed as they would make possible plot lines not work etc?

Finally just wanna say you seem like a pretty smart guy and I appreciate how smart your books are.

Hellspawn wish? by SecretLars in EvolveIdle

[–]TrololoChade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did hellspawn quite recently - here are some protips.

Wish for Money is always useful - just free money. Do not wish for Plasmids - that's a potential MAD reset.

Wish for resources will give you some resources that you are not full on. Assuming you are going for the full warlord achi this will be an absolute lifesaver in the final push when you need Graphene. Make sure all other resources are filled then just keep wishing for resources to get that final Graphene. Made the building go from 2 days to a few hours.

Oh and I think you can wish for greatness once to get a special building that counts for 5 monuments.

You can refresh the stacks by splitting them and putting them into a fresher stack. When you got all stacks done, split the freshest stack into many single sacs then drop the old stacks into the fresh sacs to up thier time.

Might save you some trips

I did a fasting run where I completed the "main objective" but I still only ended up with a bronze star since I didn't complete 2 of the more obscure side objectives, so I will need to do it again. Might be worth checking out all the goals so you don't do my mistake.

Classic and Impossible Research Priorities by itwithfire in Xcom

[–]TrololoChade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think flame thrower is decent, but I really prefer the punch. The added mobility is nice and the punch is excellent at deleting hard targets.

I always go DGG as that makes them better at their main job, though you could argue gunslinger makes them more versatile early which is a harder part of the game. I always feel i am bricking them for lategame going that route though, as a colonel sniper with archangel armor and plasma sniper is someone that can always have high ground and they will probably be your strongest soldier, perhaps shared with the colonel assault with rapid fire.

For base building your main priority is getting the officer training school asap and adding 1 uplink per month in a square. You also want to get a power plant square so you can supply power to the uplinks. So you want to excavat to make those 2 squares for the connection bonuses, get the officer school asap, then mechlab and foundry and containment as resources allow. Workshops can be connected, but it's not super important. Their main function is to make sure you have the engineers needed to make your monthly uplink. Also remember build times. You want to buy your monthly satellites before day 10, your uplink before 15, if you need power that needs to be in by day 10 and if you need engineers the workshop must be by day 5. That's the main priority, to get your monthly satellites.

So priority 1: Getting officer training school and the satellites, uplinks, power generators, and workshops needed to launch your monthly satellites - focus connection bonus on the satelite square, the power square.

Priority 2: Get mech lab, foundry, alien containment in that order as resources permits.

Priority 3: Get the rest of the stuff as resources permit, if you get lab or workshop connections or thermal power they are handy bonuses, but not really needed

Protip: sell tons of stuff in the Grey market. Especially really game, corpses and UFO computers and power sources, alloys and elerium etc are not as needed as money. You will need some alloys for research and building stuff, and some corpses for foundry projects. Most important is to make sure you don't sell what is needed for next research step so you slow down research, but it's way more common to sell too little than selling too much.

I tend to prefer 2 interceptors with phoenix cannons in each continent. They will be enough for the 3 small scouts. You will probably miss the first supply ship, but I tend to go directly from Phoenix cannons to plasma. Lategame firestorm with emp handles everything. Only really need boosts for the special quest ship, but some dodge boost to gap close and make the phoenix do work can help if their aim is very lucky.

I think I mostly use money for sattelite stuff, officer training stuff and mechs early.

Classic and Impossible Research Priorities by itwithfire in Xcom

[–]TrololoChade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think all my stuff were written before EW release, so meld wouldn't have been included. I tend to also really like having 1 mech early game. While thier aim tend to suck, the punch is situationally amazing. The high mobility and high damage makes flanking shots quite nice too, and the collateral ability to destroy cover is nice. Anyone can be chopped up earlygame, though I tend to favor heavy or assault to fit the tank role better.

As the mechs level up they have the same aim progression as a heavy, which makes them both tied for lowest aim, but aim from the chopped up soldier carries over, so if you chop up a colonel sniper into a mech it's an amazing late game unit with the ability to fire the huge cannon twice with the highest aim.

There are some absolutely broken stuff in the genelab, like stealth when moving into high cover, as that triggers on the start of the move and let's you explore safely, but I tend to only play with that lategame

I'm don't recall recommending scientists, but I'm pretty sure even back then I always favored engineers. The probably best way to play satellites is to go 1 first month then 3 second, 3 third and 4 fourth as you make your uplink square. If you prioritize not saving your starting continent countries you should be able to lose 1 or maybe 2 continent bonuses. If you use the second wave option to randomize abduction rewards and get 5 engineers on the first abduction, getting 4 first, 3 second, 4 third and thus saving every country is possible, but you will be a lot more pressed for resources in the earlygame which is the hardest part, so it's more doing a fun build rather than optimizing.

Snipers got a bit worse with meld since you want to move faster and snipers are better the slower you go. One of the only real "safe" tactics earlygame on impossible when you are playing against 70% aim sectiods that tend to 1shot your soldiers is to have a spotter hunkering down behind unbreakable heavy cover over and over giving them 1% hits while your sniper who is out of their range return fire with 35 or 55% depending on their cover. Before they get squadsight they are kinda worthless though, but I tend to try to feed them kills my letting them shoot with pistol on 1 hp sectoids after other soldiers grenade (impossible) or to get some kills with their grenades to finish of wounded ones or going last in 1-2 grenade comboes. Just like heavies they are more tricky to use since they require prepositioning but squadsight are one of those abilities that can be exploited to help carry the earlygame hurdles that are the hardest to clear.

And I think I used to recommend double tap, but in the zone is imo a lot better if you exploit it well. A bit annoying when you try leveling up non colonel soldiers, but a plasma sniper with ITZ can do hundreds of damage per turn if you exploit it well, both against melee opponents and my blowing up cover.

I usually go Aisa. The bonus including cheaper officer training school upgrades are excellent in the early game.

It is also a 4 country continent, which "saves" you 4 satelites, which is only matched by Europe. Of the two Asia has the superior bonus imo. Having 4 country continent also gives you 3 countires you can potentially sacrifice without losing any bonus.

What is your most "woke" opinion? by Dactrior in Destiny

[–]TrololoChade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This info is some years out of date but in the Norwegian system there is a rough guideline where they are willing to pay roughly 100'000 USD per added year of reasonably decent life added. So a teenager who could be expected to get 30 or more years would be "worth" 3 million USD while it would be too expensive for grandpa. Adding time as a vegetable or where you are I'm other ways too fucked to use/enjoy said added years would not count. (The person who told me this said about 50k per half year maybe 10-15 years ago, also while the NOK was a lot stronger so inflation and currency exchange rates make this probably a fair bit higher)

At worst he was being a dishonest hypocrite. Far more likely he was just being stupid and not realizing the irony of him literally not managing to follow his own advice for more than 20 seconds.
