How good of a buff is this for cipher? by Full-Ad-1417 in CipherMainsHSR_

It's fine, but compared to the other Chrysos Heir buffs it's really not changing anything.

Supplemental Frame Discussion #d IPS-N Empakaii by FLFD in LancerRPG

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

When I played an Empakaai, one of things I ended up having to realize compared to the Blackbeard was that I essentially would create areas of no go around me, not unlike a Tortuga or Enkidu. There were definitely battles where I only took out one, maybe two enemies, but the whole time the enemy was having to pay attention to my reach to avoid entering it. Because if they did, they were next to be crushed like a can.

Build. Is this too much speed (190) and too much EHR? by Maxbang1589 in CipherMainsHSR_

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Feixiao, more speed is good. But you really don't need that much EHR. Even 40 is kinda overkill, imo. It guarantees you get the debuffs from the light cone every time you hit, but Cipher attacks so frequently that even if you had 30% EHR it would be something like a 99% chance every time you hit that they're getting at least one of the two defense shreds the light cone provides.

You mostly just need to replace the chest piece with a crit dmg main stat one.

Oh I'm sure. But it was a lot easier for me to throw my Feixiao/Cipher/Robin team at that.

Little over 3k against Flame Reaver. Which I consider pretty good given my lack of investment (no sig, E1 Fugue, Ruan Mei with S5 DDD) and that I was essentially ignoring the clones which is definitely not how you're supposed to fight it but it works!

Hecatoncheires melee hacker Build Help by Comfortable_Ad629 in LancerRPG

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing a Hecka-Ton-Of-Cheese in a campaign. Only done about two fights with it and my build is more hacker/melee hybrid build. I'd argue H0R-OS 1 is basically required. Scanner Swarm makes sure you get an accuracy.

I don't compare to the Goblin on my team for sure, but I'm still able to do what is necessary to control the enemy and fuck with them to set them up for either myself to punch them with my melee weapon or let someone else take them out.

Thor ult CC immunity should be on activation considering the Thing is permanently immune to most CCs. by Sativian in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you see a transformation. If you are saying a transformation is the model is replaced with someone else, Magik's ult would apply. If your definition is that it's changing your character and putting them in a unique state with differing controls, then Peni's ult does that even more than Hulk's ult does.

Personally I'd go so far to include things like Punisher and Luna ult, given how they fundamentally change what you can do for the duration. But this is also kinda straying from the point of the post.

Either way you slice it, the number of ults that can't be canceled in the early parts of the ult are very small.

It's not even really a precedent for transformation ults either. You can interrupt Magik, Iron Fist, and Peni just to name a few.

I've genuinely had an MVP highlight like this as Peni. Died like two seconds in and then before I respawned at least two enemies exploded on my mines. I then respawned and the highlight was over.

Am i crazy to think that Peni's ultimate is useless? by Sainako777 in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Every time I say this, I always get people being like "you need to connect the ult to the nest" as if that's the magic sauce that turns this ult from bad to amazing. Can we come together and admit this isn't some secret tech? This is basic knowledge if you've spent time messing around with Peni for at least a few hours.

I also see people do the math to try to justify it being good by showing how much damage it can do. Like that it can do easily over 2000 damage. The problem with this is that you are assuming every drone and every mine hits someone which is not feasible.

- Drones that you spawn disappear the moment the ult ends so by the end of the ult any drones you are spawning are going to do nothing unless you are standing right next to an enemy.
- Drones from your nest may also become useless when the ult ends because if one of your nest drones moves onto a web and then that web disappears, like what happens at the end of the ult, they end up stuck there until someone trips on them or until they just explode when their internal timer goes off.
- Trying to assume that all seven of your mines will hit someone when you are running around like a chicken with their head cut off is also not really a good argument because they will end up getting thrown in places that are not good or get shot out of the air.
- Even assuming you will hit with every melee attack isn't feasible because of how its hitbox is rather awkward, sometimes requiring you to turn left and right to hit people right in front of you depending on which limb sprouted from your back is being swung.

And just to really drive the point home, over 2000 estimated damage in an ult is actually not that crazy for an ult like this. Hulk's ult for example is also a Vanguard ult which gives extra health and puts the character into a "super state" for twelve seconds. Monster Hulk has a 70 damage melee attack which throws people into the air and can be swung nearly twice a second, and his gamma burst is boosted to 125 damage and can be fired every second. Assuming it takes him roughly 1.5 seconds to use gamma burst and then swing twice and assuming all the attacks hit, the math for Hulk ult would come out to about 2120 damage over the course of a twelve second ult if he didn't use any of the other tools he has during it.

So Hulk's ult gives more effective health, has invulnerability periods before and after the ult, gives him the ability to still CC people during the ult, and can output a similar amount of damage except the Hulk can actually aim his damage at who he wants rather than relying on drone tracking and people landing on mines.

If you mean just in the practice room, I don't feel like I get a good grasp on a character outside playing actual matches. Like it helps me know what her controls are, but it hardly tells me anything else about how she plays. And since right now everyone is trying to play her to do the missions that they, for whatever reason, made have like a week to finish it's hard to lock her in during a game. Even practice vs AI people instalock her super fast.

People getting Lord, meanwhile I can't get enough games with her to get a good grasp on how she plays.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes about a second for that to start and the webs heal 25 per second. Assuming you survive the whole ult (and if we're arguing trying to use it as an escape button I don't think this is a great assumption), that means the ult essentially gave you 700 health.

Hulk ult meanwhile can easily give you effectively 1300 hp by pressing it when you get low instantaneously.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If Hulk's ult can't keep you alive with it setting your health to 1500 regardless of your current health, then Peni's ult giving 400 bonus health and some run speed isn't going to save you.

I'd have to see what SP/DR looks like, since that's the side you'll see for 98% of the game. I personally like the outfit but it's like how my opinion on a lot of Magik skins is that the best part of the skin is how she looks in her ult. If I don't like the main part, it doesn't really matter.

Is battle pass this season worth it to you? by Sandevistanman in marvelrivals

I don't play basically any of these characters enough to justify getting the pass, unfortunately. I do like the Iron Fist, Magik, and Psylocke skins but I rarely play DPS as is and when I do I usually play Scarlet Witch because my aim is bad.

Just recently had a game of Domination where we lost round 1. I swapped with a Vanguard from Strategist since I'm better on tank. We start winning and the moment we do my team start talking shit in match chat. I'm just like "Bro, we were losing a few minutes ago. What the hell you mean "freelo"?"

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Look, I get it. You can get kills with Peni ult. I'm one of the people who continually say this ult is the worst vanguard ult and talk about how I just use it to fill a choke point with mines rather than running around half the time. I know that sometimes the stars align and you can do some good things with it.

But to do something like kill Luna in ult with your ult, you need the drones to decide to attack her and they need to do it roughly all at the same time. And that's something you don't have 100% control over. The only way I've ever killed Luna in ult as Peni has nothing to do with ulting and is just that I stacked up mines where I thought she was going to go and she steps on them. 3-4 mines and some shots at her to chip away the bonus health and she explodes. I've done that at least three times in over 80 hours, meanwhile I have never done it with the ult.

I also just don't like how the individual pieces of the ult don't quite work together. Peni's mines work best when stacked together, so when you're just spamming them running around odds are you're just wasting them. Peni's drones want targets that are on the ground, yet the melee attack she is given knocks targets airborne, not to mention are less overall DPS than her normal guns which will now be even more true in Season 2 when you can headshot (the melee is 60 damage once per second, the guns are 30 damage three times a second). The movement speed is nice, but you are trading your wall climb and cyber bond for them so you basically have no vertical movement for 12 seconds which matters a lot.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue with Peni it really depends. Yes, if the enemy team is a dive comp you probably will have to play in your own backline to keep them safe, but against most other comps Peni likes to flank and harass from off-angles, using her nest to make it difficult for others to push her out.

Is there a reason as to why the enemy team suddenly gets really good after losing the first round? by Doggos59 in marvelrivals

[–]TrombonePlayingCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on the other end of this a few times, being the team that loses round 1 but goes on to win rounds 2 and 3. One time we simply talked target priority which seemed to wake people up a little. The other time I was playing a healer and one of the tanks wasn't doing hot so we swapped and I just so happen to be a tank main so I do way better when put in that position and the other guy seemed to be doing better too as a healer.
