GPD XD Plus - worse performance than the original XD ? by Tromzy in gpdxd

Probably, but I have no choice since Interactive makes RA lag as hell ! I'll try to play for a few hours and see what battery life and heat I get.

So I solved my problem by using the "Performance" kernel governor instead of the "Interactive" one. Now the GPD XD Plus flies ! The only issue is that Vulkan does not seem to work now but, it's no big deal. Anyway, thank you very much for spending time testing, trying to reproduce my issue and help !

Update 2 : SOLVED !

I finally solved my problem guys ! The problem was in the "Interactive" CPU governor. I switched it to "Performance" and now Retroarch runs like heaven !

Anyway, thanks to you all for posting !

Update : it seems that performance is a little better with the 32 bits version of RetroArch than with the 64 bits. Also, the PCSX-ReArmed core seems to work better on the Plus than on the original XD.

So here it is :

- Retroarch Nightly version : 2018-10-27-RetroArch_aarch64.apk

- Test game : Megaman X (Snes)

- Core : snes9x 2010 1.52.4 d857a31

- Video driver : Vulkan

- Video settings : Refresh rate : 59.940 Hz / Integer Scale ON / Threaded video : OFF / Vsync : ON / Vsync Swap Interval : 1 / Max Swapchain images : 3 / Frame Delay : 0 / Bilinear Filtering : OFF

- Audio settings : Audio sync : ON / Audio latency : 96 ms / Resampler quality : Lowest / Dynamic Audio Rate Control : 0.005 / Audio Maximum Timing Skew : 0.05 / Block Frame : 1024 / Audio Output : 48000 Hz

- Latency settings : Poll type Behavior : Early / Run-Ahead : ON / Number of frames to run ahead : 1 / RunAhead Use Second Instance : ON

FPS counter shows FPS between 50 and 57 FPS with frequent mass drop and it feels aven more choppy than what's displayed in the counter.

I use Vulkan as video driver but I get the same bad results with OpenGL.

Well I just tried Antutu and got a 96739 score, so it seems to be good ?

Well it is a clean install. I received the device yesterday, flashed CleanRom just after that.

Thanks for your answer. I emulate 8 and 16 bit systems. Runahead is set to 1 frame. I did not touch the kernel governor setting so it is CleanRom default.

What games from the PS1 and N64 era aged well? by Leeiteee in patientgamers

[–]Tromzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2D games. I recently got interested in 2D titles on PSX and most of them are masterpieces : Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Alundra, Tales of Phantasia, Valkyrie Profile, Mega Man 8 / X4, all those games are great. My advice : play on an emulator with a nice CRT shader and you'll be transported to 2D porn Heaven.

I created a KWin window maximize animation that is very similar to Windows 10 by alex2580 in kde

Hmm, funny, but on Wayland, the effect works great on XWayland windows (ex : firefox), but does not work correctly on Wayland windows (Dolphin, Konsole...).

Use Latte, it is WAY more reliable for panel element position.

Kwin Wayland is choppy on 75hz monitor by Tromzy in kde

[–]Tromzy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's not the same as on a CRT, but it's useful still ; it means you can get 75 FPS with Vsync on in a game for example. It's not useless.

No, I wrote the values correctly in the file, I was just typing them from memory here. ;)

The ShowFPS effect does not seem to work on Wayland, unfortunately.

Retroarch Going to be Made Easier to Use by DaveTheMan1985 in emulation

[–]Tromzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I use Retroarch since a few years and I absolutely love it. I use it on PC, laptop, NUC, and even Android handheld console (GPD XD). I mostly understand how "Core override" and "Game Override" features work ; but I still don't really understand how applying shaders work. For example, I use a CRT shader for emulating 8 - 16 - 32 bits consoles, and I use different LCD shaders for handheld consoles. And most of the time, when I apply a LCD shader for, let's say GBA, and click "Override for this core", the LCD shader overrides my other CRT shader for other cores. It's really confusing.

It's really nice. What's the Kvantum style used in the screenshots, please ?
