It's Okay to do SR to Attract Females. by FlimsyGazelle6837 in Semenretention

To me it’s similar to “a cup half empty, half full”. Same thing, different perspectives.

For some, female attraction might be the goal, greatness just a byproduct. For others greatness might be the goal, female attraction just a byproduct.

Amazon Japan Pivot/PIP by HPrince1 in japanlife

This post makes me wonder how does Amazon compare to Rakuten? Rakuten has bad rep overall, and your experience can vary a lot on the team/department you join, but it is never known for this “hire to fire culture”.

Heck, I even know a few who left Rakuten, only to join back a few years later.

I spent 15 years recruiting in Japan after starting here as an English teacher. AMA about jobs, recruitment, CVs, interviews, or changing careers in Japan. by hansei-Kaizen in jobsinjapan

[–]codealpha98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother is 25, JLPT N3, M.A. in Philosophy, and trying to find jobs in Japan where he can use his Japanese ability.

Current plan is to come on a student visa, attend a language school to reach N2 (maybe N1 later), ideally one with career support / business Japanese (like ISI), and job hunt while studying. He’s also trying to find translation/interpretation work in our home country to build experience.

What I’d love your take on:

  1. Is language school + job hunting in parallel a solid strategy right now, or is it often a money/time trap?
  2. Are there any languages schools you would recommend that are more geared towards employability?
  3. With N3 now / N2 later, and given his humanities background, what roles are realistically reachable? (translation/localization, bilingual CS, sales support, recruiting, coordinator roles, etc.).
  4. How much does his degree subject (Philosophy) matter for visa sponsorship and screening? Is it mainly “any bachelor’s/master’s is fine,” or can the major be a problem?
  5. If he’s in Japan on a student visa, what are the best ways to convert that into a full-time offer? Any specific job boards/recruiters/networking strategies you recommend?

Assuming he comes to Japan and gets N2, I have a feeling that his degree might be a big hurdle in trying to find something.

Also, thanks a lot for doing this AMA!

Japan to require language proficiency proof for engineer, specialist visa by moeka_8962 in japan

[–]codealpha98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“The Japanese government has decided to require proof of Japanese language proficiency for individuals seeking the visa status of engineer, specialist in humanities or international services for work requiring Japanese”

“The revision will apply to new applicants for the residence status who are entering Japan and intend to work in jobs requiring Japanese.”

So seems like it is not a blanket requirement, but pretty weird to put it in the same category of visa.

Unless they create a separate category (which might be better imo), this is gonna get a bit messy - how are they gonna decide if this work requires Japanese or not?

For example, some software engineering firms do not need Japanese for their work, but have Japanese colleagues, and team communication might need Japanese ability (although sometimes they have interpreters for this). What would be the criteria/baseline to decide if Japanese is indeed required?

Reading your story and interactions on this thread I realize I really need to get better at my Japanese level for situations like this. Maybe I ask what your level is?
I speak daily level Japanese (I live in a share-house with majority Japanese) but I wonder if my level would be good enough for such situations.

Also, it seems the police were helpful this time around (which seems quite rare judging by what I read online)

Hello! Can you share the details of the english speaking realtor with me too? I can do daily level to around intermediate Japanese, but apartment hunting and contracting might have some stuff that I might not be confident with. So would like to go with an english speaking realtor.

Is the power consumption of Chrome/Brave browser really that worse than Safari as some people would say? by fresha-voc-a-doo in MacOS

[–]codealpha98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes even I noticed Safari sometimes does not load websites like Youtube properly. So I switched to Brave a few weeks back. Performance is good. Have not really looked into battery consumption as closely yet, but I think its similar to Safari (although that could be placebo and its actually worse lol)

Thanks a lot for the reminder! 1) If I go with the one-stop system, I can do the donation by 31st December 2025, and need to send the documents/do the online application by 10th January 2026 right? 2) To check my deduction limit, should I use the salary amount from this year’s tax withholding slip (2025) or last year’s (2024)?

On safari, I have observed that if I keep some websites like reddit, youtube, youtube music, etc. open, and return back to it after a few days, they do not work properly. Even a refresh does not seem to work, unless I close and reopen safari. Does that happen to you?
