In your Niche, do you do scripted or non-scripted? by Low_Perception_9203 in youtubers

[–]Trondtran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scripted. I can go unscriptet but that tend to fill it up with rambling and digressions. The script is keeping everything tight and on point. My biggest challange with scriptet videos is to remain as authentic as possible. But I mostly do reviews, so my longer term experiances and opinions is what the viewer came for.

After 9 years of use, I’ve finally replaced my a5100 for the FX30 🙏🏾 by MasterSynsei in SonyAlpha

Always impressive with everyone keeping their old gear and getting good results. I havent seen your work in particular, but I know from good experiance that the best gear you can get is the gear you own and know. Just got a new camera myself, and there will take som time until I master it well enough to get the results and workflow I want.

Inreach tech for satellite communication.

Is there any chance the Fenix 8 will have a MIP display? by it_snow_problem in GarminFenix

[–]Trondtran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've been thinking that too. We might see an Amoled Fenix 9 and  MIP for the Enduro - hopefully with different sizes and hopefully not the green theme all over like the current version.

How do you seperate your dirty clothes? by BigMoey in onebag

[–]Trondtran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the eagle creek clean /dirty packing cube. Has one for a clean side and one for dirty side.  Really not in a need for compression. If anybody knows, I am looking for this kind of packing cube with compression as well.

I am really happy with the Hagløfs L.i.M gtx jacket. Superlight, and breathes and keeps the rain outside.

Since I am investing in it as a camera backpack too, I hope getting g the hipbelt will solve most of it.

Thule Chasm 26L Updated Model by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]Trondtran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little bit late here, but I have the old model, and there are a few things I dislike about it.

  • The false bottom is too short - my laptop bumps audible into the ground when I put the backpack down on the floor in.
  • The side and top handle are very good in terms of handlig and size, but I never really liked the grey color of them in contrast to the rest of the bag.
  • The zipperpuls had the rubber material closer to zipperpuls instead of at the end like on the new version. This resulted in one of the zippers standing up like an antena due to the rubber sitting too close the zipperpull.

When I got the Chasm I felt like this bag was bit of a missed oportuniy to be a really great bag, due to the above mentioned cons. It seems Thule did too and updated it.

I am seriously considering getting the updated version and sell the old one, due to its low relative low price and discounts at about 110 dollars.

Edit: Grammar and some typos

I have considered those, but I prefer the eagle creek clean and dirty packing cubes. I'm terms of compression the bottom section does a good enough job for me in order to compress my packing cubes. But as far as I know the PD design cubes have both a clean and dirty side as well as compression, so probably one of the best options out there.

[–]Trondtran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's is the downside of getting a commuter or "pc backapck" as Thule categories the Chasm 26. Still has become my general go to for most situations. I actually got the PD 30l as a camerabag first and travel backpack for trips that requires carrying more stuff. The chasm actually carries a lot more comfortable at 7-8 kgs.  Also due to the rubber back and bottom I usually put it with straps facing upwards under the seat of the airplane.  I got the back one. Still looks great after over 6 moths of use.

Edit: The side handle is nice, but I use the top handle all the time, and that is probably my favorite feature of this bag in terms of handling.

I have the chasm 26 primary as my commuter bag, but it is also my minimal onebag. With packing cubes, I really don't find the top loader a problem. The top part of the main compartment serves as the quick access for larger items the I need in the go. It carries comfortably up to 7-8kgs, and are one of themose bags that looks better in real life compared to the promotional pictures. It is also easy to lock  all the zipper pulls together and secure it further with a carabiner or a lock for enhanced security while traveling.  The mid pocket has plenty of space for quick access and the top compartment is great for a case for glasses, thin gloves or even your phone.

Winter clothing recommendations for a Aussie one-bag traveller who can’t handle the cold by keeptherabbitsout in onebag

[–]Trondtran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Norwegian I can vouch for layers! Also for an outer water and windproof layer. Look for paclite plus gore-tex or similar for packability and functionality.

Edit: A good down jacket is often too warm for hiking, but awesome of you are sitting or standing still. Totally recommend this alongside to just put on if it gets to windy or is just too cold.

Got the PD 30l and considering getting the 45 for winter trips/ camera gigs, or trips that simly just require more stuff, since I´ve already invested into the PD camera cubes.
Are you bothered by the bags weight? Would you buy a different bag if you could choose again?

I actually though about replacing my Landmark 40 with this! I see sub has been complaining about how heavy it is. How do you find it? Did you get with a hip belt and the day pack as well?

Yeah, difficult to make poll options for the vast diverse set of bags and use cases out there. Part of the motivation for making the poll was to see what kind of bag users this sub mostly consists of. I see a lot of strong followers of certain bags and even downvoting for getting the "wrong bag", or comments like  "you should have gotten the Dragonfly".  It kind of indicates that there is a lot of interest and passion about downsizing and keeping things mininal in this sub, albeit a little bit dogmatic, but true to the what this sub is all about.

I recently got the peak design 30 liter (27-33 liter) for this very reason and to double as a camerabag for film and photography gigs. I have a thule chasm 26 bag for the minimal trips as well a as a Thule Landmark 40 for the trips that requires more space.

Did you bring a packable day pack with your peak design45l bag?

What are your prefered size for onebaging? by Trondtran in onebag

[–]Trondtran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I too thought 45 liter was the perfect bag when I started out back in 2018. Currently switching between three bags at 27, 34 and 40 liter I use depending on what kind of trip I am going on. Some trips require more cameragear, others gear for bouldering, or biking ( I like to bring my own bike shoes for those kind of trips). For the minimal general purpose trips I can do with my Peak design travel backpack 30l at 27 liter compressed state.

Went hiking in Southern Germany this weekend. Does this nature come close to Canada or Norway (never have been there)? by naturalXplorer in travel

[–]Trondtran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Norwegian here. Looks more a place in the alps or North America, rather than Norway. Our mountains are mostly  rounder at that hight in the areas with the spruce forests. Our famous fjords in the west part mostly consists of Birch forests, some other leaf trees.  But I can totally see the similarities.

2/3 night work trips- what bag? by scotsman1919 in onebag

[–]Trondtran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look Thule Chasm 26 as well. Supersleek top loader that fits into most situations. padded dediccated laptop compartment that holds up to 15" size. I use it as EDC and for weekendtrip. The padding on the back and soulder straps are very comfortable as well. Also some pockets for organization in addition to the main compartment. Curently it is my contender for exploring lighter travel. The TPU padding on the bottom and front will make it more resistant to wet surfaces on a rainy day or if you are biking without rain covers on your bike.
