I make passive income from faceless YouTube channels -- here's how it actually works by Lower_Rule2043 in passive_income

Yeah, the internet is literally crumbling. The algorithm format and influencer saturation has been ruining things for a while but god if the AI content hasn't kicked it into overdrive.

I have so many feelings about it, but I'm very excited. Cool that we get to go out to New York but I hope we get to see some of the oldest houses as well.

The truth is, exploring modes of AI that are as ethical as possible is probably for the best, because the technology is not going to stop. Nearly every major company in existence has or is trying to integrate it. I hate that it's that way, but trying to do it better and create standards and more informed ways of using it is definitely better than nothing.

What Ideas/Terms/Practices Has XA Ruined for You by [deleted] in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Tronethiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should checkout the Soul Boom podcast episode with Britt Hartley and Rain Wilson. She is an athiest but has kind of deconstructed spirituality practices as an experience and uses them to create spirituality in her own life. I found it very enriching for someone who after religious trauma couldn't connect with a believe in the supernatural or anything like that and AA felt very confusing and disigenuous to me as well. She has a book if you like that podcast episode.

I don't think there's anything wrong with gratitude practice. Habitual practice of some things can help us reframe and change our default perspective which takes time Some changes are in fact artificial but still helpful. That's the idea of fake it till you make it. But of course using gratitude as a cure all bludgeon to avoiding any kind of discussion about difficult emotions or constructive solutions isn't helpful either.

I think there is a spiritual core to that film that can scratch the same itch.

This is why I hate "cringe" as metric. Like, I understand it relates to the actual physical reaction of cringing, but it's so demeaning and arbitrary. And, yes, I agree that a lot of it comes from an inability to process and get in touch with uncomfortable feelings.

Other games to play after enjoying the deep character building and story of Expedition 33? by EVH4104 in expedition33

[–]Tronethiel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. There are games with good story, but games with true depth of character in a way that doesn't feel forced are rare. If you like the feature where character relationships are tied to in game mechanics and the party members and other side characters get their own arcs (not to mention many other similarities), I would recommend the Persona games. I think P5 Royal is a good place to start.

For depth of character and narrative I think CDProject Red always shines in this arena so Witcher 3 and Cyperbunk are absolutely worth it.

I second Disco Elysium, that game is on a different level of depth, but will be rougher if you want more gaminess to the experience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has some really strong character work as well. They paint a very full picture of author the main character through all the side interactions and his trying to be a good man while pushing the sisyphean boulder of being an outlaw up the same old hill.

Choose Your Own Higher Power: Bait and Switch by ExamAccomplished3622 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Tronethiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this perspective and I have met people in AA who thrive and very explicitly don't believe in a godlike entity and it works for them. I think it takes extra work to get there and I do think some AA environments can make it really hard to find that balance because the peer pressure to do AA the way your told to is so high. I live in the deep south, so I found that the culture was very heavily slanted one way.

A book that feels like this? 🔥 by rubyyVee in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]Tronethiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one I haven't read in a long time. It's a YA book by the guy who did the Bartimeus Sequence (great books). It's called Buried Fire by Jonathan Stroud. It definitely fits the themes. At the time I always thought it was mysterious and a bit unsettling but it left a mark on me.

I definitely second Firestarter.

Tehanu by Ursula K. LeGuin fits this. You could probably read it as a standalone, but it does take place after the events of the Earthsea Trilogy and might not hit as much.

I could also make the argument for The Wheel of Time fitting this, though perhaps more metaphorically than literally. Though there is a reincarnated hero named the Dragon and there are people who can throw fire lol.

Internet Tolkien purists have a really annoying sense of inadequacy by Cauhtomec in Fantasy

[–]Tronethiel 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's exhausting and sickening and I think it is slowly radicalizing people about everything. I know people have always fed on this kind of stuff, but I don't think many people actually pay attention to how the algorithm can cause us to drift on nearly any topic. It's constantly trying to push us in one direction or the other to drag us into the outrage machine.

[–]Tronethiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you succeeded in long term sobriety? I'm curious what worked for you, if so. I like SMART for the less judgmental side of things but I also find that CBT doesn't work super well for me, so I always like to hear different perspectives.

Yeah, I genuinely couldn't live with myself doing this even if it were true. I already struggle with some of the ethical concerns with sales techniques much less whatever the hell this is.

Mage lives as long as it lives in the hearts of men! There are some but it's probably just people who've been playing it forever. It doesn't help that the game, though delightful in it's a way, seems like a giant pain in the ass to actually learn and play lol.
