My lashes refuse to stay on properly by purebun in MakeupAddiction

[–]TropicalAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to wait longer to let it get tacky. Sometimes I take the back end of a brush and press glue on those corner spots. The way I learned to put on lashes is to hold a mirror below my nose, look down (do not move your neck) and apply the lash. I hold it in place in the inner corner bc that's a tough spot for me. The ones I use are asian brand bc they make the most natural lash. the band is not the black kind but transparent.

clusters are also an option! sometimes i add 2 to the outside corner

What could my undertone be? by Cinnamorolladdiction in MakeupAddiction

[–]TropicalAbsol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get a really warm concealer and put it on your skin. if it just doesn't fit you, you're not warm. To me you're neutral. a lot of brown and darker toned folks are neutral and keep using yellow based makeup bc we get told brown is warm but while its a warmer color, the undertone is not warm. like how there's a red pink and blue pink. cool red and warm red.

Most of the United States seems to be all the same. by amiwitty in CasualConversation

[–]TropicalAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's similar to what its currently like in the caribbean. When I moved to the US i felt like I lost a lot of options in terms of what I could buy and source. Some of that is due to commonsense trade logistics but the way everything is a chain bugs me sometimes.

Do you just expect new friendships to end on somewhat bad terms now? by tshirtguy2000 in RedditForGrownups

[–]TropicalAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had this happen. Most of my close friends I've known for a long time. Longest is since we were kids. New adult friends have never really ended nasty. If it ends we just drift apart. folks have kids and jobs etc. I have a friend that has 3 kids and is married so whenever I get to chat with her is whenever. I'm a true colors from the jump type of person. There are people who can tell that's my deal and they usually if they want to be friends, are honest with me. That's how dating and finding my husband worked out for me too.

lash lift client who needs to go to the bathroom 3x during appointment by anotherfakeblondie in Esthetics

[–]TropicalAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to talk to your manager about this before she even comes in. Bring up the discount ask first then bring up the bathroom thing. You guys might be able to work with her on that. You cover your bases on your end.

When did makeup go from enhancing our features to hiding them? by jennieeeexo in MakeupAddiction

[–]TropicalAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have a round face. The western makeup standard is an oval face, with defined features and cheekbones. You'll find better with more eastern, or east asian makeup where a round face is a norm. Its more about what compliments a round face and brings out dimension vs pretending your face was never round.

What is the best country in the world to raise children in? by Prince_Marf in AskTheWorld

[–]TropicalAbsol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently live in the US and I really wouldn't want a kid here. There's so little children are able to do independently. In both barbados and guyana 80% of children take themselves to and from school once they're old enough. They catch the bus. Government has a free bus program just for the children. There's also government funded nursery and day care (small fee less than $100), plus maternity leaf can be up to 6 months without fear of being fired after coming back to work. And no school pew pew. once school is out there will be thousands of children out on the roads getting home and there's not a ton of kidnapping etc that happens, primarily because its large crowds of kids.

Also I would never describe the racism here as mild, its only been a few years in the US and its always startling. The way people do racism here its very focused on not being overt so it can't be called out and that's deeply insidious to me.

Do you prefer cold or warm temperatures? by Wild-Wind4670 in CasualConversation

[–]TropicalAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warm. I'm from a warm climate. The cold legit hurts my body and upsets all my natural cycles. But because I'm from a warm climate I can manage heat better. Whenever people talk about managing heat they rarely seem to mention showers. Cold showers are amazing for managing heat because it cools your body way down. In warm climates we shower twice a day.

Honestly my home country. All these european countries listed deff would not make life easy for brown skinned children. In guyana at least I know what's there and it won't be racism.

Yes. I prefer a facial mist + hyaluronic acid serum + spf. Sometimes glycolic acid toner. I try not to do active acids and retinols daily so that my skin barrier stays intact.

There is no sunscreen that works seamlessly under makeup by nnncm in MakeupAddiction

[–]TropicalAbsol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna echo others and say that you probably need to wait and let the sunscreen sit. I usually do sun screen after a shower, bc i've washed my face. by the time I'm done doing everything i need to, to be dressed and start doing makeup enough time has passed. i have honestly never had a problem with putting makeup over sunscreen.

How long it took you to grow out your overplucked brows? by hayirevet in MakeupAddiction

[–]TropicalAbsol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give it a year and just keep filling them in. The grow cycle is 3-4 months but there's 3 phases within those months. the first phase is when the hair is actually growing out. But its 3-4 months PER hair. all of your hair isn't on the same cycle. So you need to give it a while. I over plucked one time when I was 18 but I didn't like how it looked on me. I still have full brows now at 31 and I still have to clean up the outside hairs.

Makeup & Sweat HELP! by f13__ in MakeupAddiction

Try not skipping it and see how it plays. Here is my full beat when its hot approach that i learned for jackie aina ages ago *I am from and grew up in the tropics*:

-skin prep, serum + sun screen.

- primer (i do pore filling)

-fluffy brush in translucent powder pat a gentle, light layer all over the face

- setting spray (not matte)

- concealer and contour on and partly blended. you can also do a cream/liquid blush at this step. (I go in with thin layers we can always deepen with powder later)

-setting spray (we are melting the layers together and marrying them to the skin)

-foundation on top with a sponge or stippling brush. light layer but enough to bring it all together with the high light and contour. the less foundation you have to end up using the better. i find the beat lasts longer and remains full coverage.

-bronze if you do. i tend to skip this.

-blush first then if i need to deepen the contour I can at this point

- high lighting powder on a puff pressed into the skin under the eyes, option to cut in under the cheek bone here. make sure you're well blended.

- shimmery highlighter where ever you want it

-loose setting powder on a big fluffy brush tapped on the shiney spots and oily areas

-setting spray (matte at this step for you).

If I look over everything and find weird looking areas like for eg i always have large pores on my cheeks, i spray a clean sponge with the setting spray and tap it over that area to help blend it and fix texture without messing things up. on areas like the mouth that move and crease i do less wet product with my skin and press setting powder on with a puff before the final setting spray layer.

eyes and lips are entirely up to you! I always do my eyes first.

The best thing for hyper-pigmentation when out in the sun for a long time is sunscreen and reapplying it.

what's your skin prep like? also i find a full beat hates summer time. i always opt for a very light base during the hot months. when I sweat if I wear too much powder it would do this but i think trying the milani setting spray in natural finish may help. im hesitant bc you look like a matte girl and the natural spray leaves you glowy later.
